Mario Kart Switch: all Wii U + new tracks, characters, battle mode, < 3 mos fr launch

I'm not seeing a downside to this. Perfect game gets a lot of new content, this is a system seller for me, personally speaking.

Mario Kart 8 was the reason I bought a Wii U to begin with. I think at the time Nintendo was running as promotion, so I got the digital version of Wind Waker HD (for free) with it too. And as it turns out, those are two of my favorite games on the system!

That's pretty fucking lame.

I'd love the new content, but I already own the god damn game and played the shit out of it. I'm not shelling out $60 for a mildly upgraded port of a 3 year old game. In fact, I should be able to buy all the new shit as DLC for $20.

I think all I need now is that FF6 remake and I'm in on the switch. I'll definitely be watching the January event. But I still have some trepidation as far as Nintendo support...

I also don't want to spend 60$ for something I already spent so much on...

Big fat meh

I played enough Splatoon, I'd rather a new Mario Kart, Zelda won't be at launch and Skyrim is how old now?

Mario at launch is good but expected. Hope it plays more like 64.

Glad y'all seem happy though. I bet this will sell a far sight better than Wii U, especially given the rumored price.

How was 3D Mario expected?

We have the FFVI Remake rumor for Nintendo. If it's there we should see it at the January event.

No way, what is going on with Nintendo now? I can't believe it. Battle mode in Mario Kart 8? This is a megaton. They actually listen to fan feedback now same goes for their new 3D Mario. Its amazing

Launch day is getting weaker with every new bit of info.

Now, on day 1, we have:

Splatoon Plus
Mario 3D
Skyrim
FIFA?
Just Dance

Hopefully there's more than that. Even if Nintendo don't have more first party wise, there should be couple of huge third party games that are not 5 year old late ports.

As for the trade-in/discount, I highly doubt anything like that will happen since Nintendo are still fairly incompetent when it comes to their online/account infrastructure.

They've done it before when people owned digital copies of Virtual Console games on the Wii, they were discounted on the Wii U store.

Plus for physical owners how would they be able to tell who owns a legal copy or not since it's now possible to exploit the Wii U and install games. Mario Kart 8 was one of the examples when the exploit first released.

I mean the possibility of them partnering with retailers to offer trade-in incentives on your physical copies. This is less likely than the digital option, but still.

I want Sonic as a guest character?

They are banking on people that didn't know the Wii U was ever a thing. For years after the Wii U came out, I still had people asking me why Nintendo never made a console after the Wii.

That's certainly a real possibility. And if it's one they've found to be true, then it could payoff. It'll be interesting to see how they eventually market them. Will they treat them as if they were new games? Like by giving Mario Kart 8 a completely new marketing campaign with TV ads.

Obviously they are there to support whatever original software they launching Switch with. HD remasters are incredibly popular on PS4/Xbone.

There's a lot of them, but i'm not sure i'd say they're incredibly popular. I think for the most part the purpose of the remasters was to flesh out libraries early on when newer games were coming together slower than expected. This is where big questions come in for Nintendo. What's the release schedule for their completely new games as well as what does their third party support look like? I don't think that Nintendo will have the same luxury that Sony and MS had with sorta having ports/remasters carry their systems through dry parts of the calendar.

That's because Nintendo's pushing this as a console. And the reality is that consumer confidence with Nintendo when it comes to consoles isn't particularly good. Their launch and software supply afterwards needs to be on point. This is just a hypothetical scenario, but they can't have a situation where Mario is their big launch title and then they try to release enhanced ports over the course of several months to eventually bridge into a Zelda release. Ports are fine, but they're going to need a relatively steady flow of new games as well. And I think it's expected that they'll have that given that they're essentially combing their console and handheld development into one platform.

This is the first time Nintendo ever has done an enchanced port of a previous gen Mario Kart. Its always been one per system.

In what galaxy is a new 3D Mario at launch a weak lineup?!

It's because MK8 was awesome and it's potential shouldn't be squandered on the dying Wii U.

The fact that the best Mario Kart only sold a quarter of the sales that trash like MK Wii did, still bugs me.

Only thing interesting me here is the new Mario. The only factor here is price now. If it's sctually $329 CDN, then nah, this sucker can wait

If we get either 1080p or 60FPS for multiplayer, this will already be a huge upgrade. The extra resolution would be really nice for split screen.

man, they're really doing it aren't they? they're really nailing the software lineup for the switch

fucking day 1 Mario, Splatoon pack in with a bunch of new shit, Mario Kart 8 with a bunch of new shit

wow

Hope people stop whining now.

I hope you're not referring to people who want to see this effort + more third party support past the first 3 years. Because Nintendo shooting out the gate once again doesnt address those concerns at all.

A link to the other thread would have been nice.

A real fleshed out battle mode would be the only addition to Mario Kart 8 I really care about. I am already overwhelmed by the abundance of characters. Guess more tracks wouldn't hurt either.

The launch line-up really doesn't look good if this is true though. Would be quite surprised if this is all Nintendo could come up with in the last two years. I mean, what have they been busy with?

That's great but man I really wanted a proper battle mode for the my Wii U version. :/ Id gladly pay for the DLC if they would bother to do it, as long as Block Fort was in of course.

Sounds very good, if the tracks/characters will be at least comparable to a complete pack of Wii U DLC (+ battle mode)
Still not sure about re-buying it at full price, obviously

I guess people won't stop fear mongering until every single new game Nintendo has planned for the Switch gets leaked before the January presentation, huh.

Hmm...so really only 3D mario that I'd want. I will wait for the pokemon port/zelda at the very least. Was never a huge fan of MK outside of MK64 and SNES.
