Tend to agree that this trailer wasn't a good first look at the game. Naughty Dog making a bounty hunter in space game is enough for me to be excited, but you had to really pay attention to this trailer to get that much.

The reality is, him and "the new dogs" would refuse to do so. The studio has been "cleansed" for anyone who would advocate for that kind of imagery and depiction in influential creative positions.
Namedropping "Akira" and "Cowboy bebop" is just an easy way to gain exposure and association on the backs off popular and established/iconic names. The inspiration will likely just be shallow at best.

Yeah, like I say, maybe they were just shit at making a trailer for it, or I was burnt out on hours of trailers from the game awards. All I know is I felt way more emotional attachment to that concord teaser, or Arc Raiders initial trailer. Both had same 80s sci fi synth wave vibe, both had much more emotive impact. Given this is meant to be naughty dogs forte, I was....disapointed and a little sad.

I think the product placement was most important. Like you, I don’t need to be “sold” on a ND game. Just like I don’t need to be sold on a Halo or Mario game. I’m gonna jump in, head first. But I do see some “choices” that I don’t find pleasing to the eyes.

Don't agree. Shit came into Punk etc. subcultures in the 80s already and became mainstream alternative fashion in the 90s with Grunge as far as my old ass remembers. My sister's had a septum piercing specifically since the early 2000s.
Whether you think it looks bad is one thing. I was replying to a post implying that bringing a woman to "family dinner" with a nose ring, not even septum piercing, would be shocking. Granted I'm from a big-ass city but I find GAF's weird thing about nose piercings baffling. I've been seeing that shit on anyone and everyone for ages.
FYI, I seem to be one of the rare people here who thought Last of us 2 was great, and actually thought abby was a good character (tho it was an irrepressibly miserable game/experience lol)

Not only do I agree, but I actually think the majority opinion of gamers would be positive on Abby, and also praise how it presented a more non-traditional type of female character in a game, if it wasn't for the game itself.
How the game was paced, how much and when you had to play as Abby, and the attempts to somewhat force the gamer to overtly sympathize with her over the others are what did the character in, not the character herself IMO.

To me the main issue is that legitimate criticism - the tone and writing, will be completely disregarded as illegitimate.
People liked Uncharted and TLoU because the people actually had relatable, real dialogue and didn’t slurp a milkshake with a cocked eyebrow whilst being ‘the boss’.
