Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

So why didn't Stellar Blade get hit with this "diversity" agenda talk by those folk?

What do you mean? I don't know who you're talking about.

If you mean the right leaning cultural war people, it's because its a Korean game that has hot anime dolls they can jerk off to. Also because it's not a "diverse" person like a black they/them. It doesn't feel forced in that regard

Which game are you talking about? because this game doesnt have a non-binary MC
It can be inferred that this MC is somewhat adrogynous, and knowing Neil's style they will probably be lesbian or at least bi. It's not that hard to see it's not a traditional white straight woman.

So why did Baulders Gate 3 sell so well and get so much high praise?
Sorry didnt play BG 3 and didnt follow the discussion around it .. its not my kind of game .. I see mentioned here and there that it has some LGBTQ elements but I really couldn't even begin to try and form an argument specifically for this game.

You're assuming games sell based on how sexy the main character is. I could agree with you that a straight up ugly character could hurt, but this main character isn't ugly. She just has a shaved head.
I didn't assume anything. I just look at the response to the trailer and can only conclude many people find this character unpleasant. That's pretty bad for a first impression.

MC name is Jordan. Does not look like a woman, does not look like a man. Jordan's demeanour throughout the teaser is suggestive that they're non-binary. Just my personal observation.

I know a girl called Jordan, there is a very famous (for the wrong reasons these days) celeb/model called Jordan. She has a shaved head, and do please tell me about this non-binary demeanour.

The devs themselves call her 'she', so that usually sways more towards identifying as female

Its not hard to believe she's straight either (and she doesnt look androgynous either, a shaved head does not make someone look androgynous).
I would put money down that she's not straight but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

And my point is really just that she isn't what a traditional woman looks like. It's obviously going to rile people up especially in our current cultural environment where diversity is the most important and critical thing to have in art.

I would love to see the statistics of what the average player that plays this game looks like, when it's all said and done.

She does have nice cake in that trailer 😉

And I mean, it's based on the actress. So maybe a 6.5/7 out of 10 on the thicc meter.

That's usually with guys tho and a lot of that in sports. Could be for aerodynamics even, like it'd probably be hard to be faster with an afro vs. bald because the afro would create wind resistance.

I'm looking at it like a car analogy. As for the actress, IIRC she's mixed African-American/Korean. Honestly I don't care about people's ethnic backgrounds like that but for whatever reason there are folks on both sides bringing it up in cases like this 🤷‍♂️

I mean, that's their choice. Does every film focus on a super-hot female character? Again even going back to something like Alien, Ripley was never a conventionally attractive character IMHO.

Even so, they stuck with that, and we got one hell of an iconic film character regardless of gender. Even in Alien 3, when she was outright bald, she was the best part of that film (either version). I'm not gonna start dictating devs can only feature such and such characters or else they're pushing some hideous agenda. I don't support censorship, regardless which way.

There aren't that many guys with that soft of skin or facial features.

Isn't that Lalo from Better Call Saul.

Isn't he Latino?

Just checked, he's mixed white/Mexican. Basically white Latino. And TBF, he's played bad guys in lots of work (at least the stuff I've seen him in). It would be clever if they flipped it though and he turns out to be a good guy, just to get out of typecasting him.
People are speculating that a tv show could be in the works for the cast of the game to play the same characters in a live version tv show. That would be next level if Sony attempted that

Nothing wrong with the name. It is unisex, and can be used by both males and females. Some non-binary people also use she/he. Nothing wrong with being non-binary mate, do you have a problem with that? lmao

The reason people think there's an "agenda" is because ever since 2018-2020 every studio has been encouraged to diversify games. The problem is is that the reality shows gaming to be a heavily male-dominated field. I think, in general, people would be ok playing as a woman in a game, but by 2024 it has become obvious that there has been increased pressure in corporations (hence the DEI label) to diversify these games for the sake of diversity. It feels forced, especially when these game devs are still controlled by majority white men. It's performative and further divides people into either A. a left leaning person who wants to take diversity as some kind of cultural victory and B. the male conservative (or center left/right) who feels like they're being forced to align with some kind of agenda.

It's really not that hard to see how this cultural war has gotten to this point.
who bout we judge the game of if it’s good or not and just leave it at that? all this other shit is just politics.

I'm not even making a stance on what I think man I'm just stating the obvious observations of the online culture war. Do you disagree that this accurately represents the two sides?

There's obviously a big chunk of people who don't get involved and just want to play games. But its disingenuous to think that these two sides don't exist as well.

All they have done is make the main character in the game look like the voice actress, as do the other characters in the game, they look like the voice actors, people are reading way too much into it.

Because it's all entirely optional.

And I think that at least for gaming .. this cultural pushback really began after BG3 and Spider Man 2.... is hard to pin point when something like this really beggins ... I guess in this case it began with the steam curator page ? Talking about SBI ? And this was in FEB/24

And why do you think they picked this actress specifically? You think they were open to have any looking male or female and she just happened to audition the best?

The main character is the thing I dislike the least. I'm not even sure I dislike her. Could be cool for a character action game type of thing. Especially if they steer into the sadistic look. It's the derivatives for me. The jukebox she stole from Starlord's crash pad, small spaceship and red leather jacket. Even the general tone of the music choices. I guess they've always borrowed core concepts without being shy about it. Uncharted, TLOU etc. Maybe it just hits harder since Sony just released a game that aped the same property. Eye patch lady was a way worse offender than the MC imo. That's an archetype that is just flat out played better as a man. Bonus points for an English/Aussie/Saffer accent. The actual gameplay, chopping up jungle robots with a laser sword, is probably gonna be cool as fuck. But even that is another head scratcher in a broader sense. Sony's other tent pole franchise is literally a stronk woman who fights jungle robots with melee weapons.
agree with most of this, with my other concern being that this'll be one more 'humorless' naughty dog franchise. i mean, yeah, i'm sure there'll be witty rapport/banter up the wazoo, but i mean dumb/stupid/silly shit:

uncharted served as a nice tonal contrast to last of us (well, up till uc4, anyway). never mind just how good at it naughty dog could be. i'm thinking that, no matter how good intergalactic might turn out to be, it'll be missed by more people than myself...

I just gave you my observation which is my proof.

Non-binary people express themselves and their identity via how they dress, carry themselves etc. Jordan does this by shaving bald, wearing finger snipped gloves, walking like man.

I don't make these creative choices. If I was non-binary I'd identify with Jordan quite easily.

This stuff has been sizzling for awhile. The left-leaning culture really blew up after Trump's 2016 victory. The diversity and DEI stuff is a product of the George Floyd 2020 riots, which was probably peak performative online virtue signaling. DEI was a product of those riots, and the games that have been influenced by that movement have started to finally come out after the 3-4 years of dev time. It's all been going on for almost 10 years at this point though.

The guy just killed their beloved male character in 10 minutes of game with a fucking golf club by a girl boss ... I think a male lead will never again be an option at ND while Cuckman and Co. are there ... or at least not the usual alpha straight male like joel.

I mean I don't need them to be a strong traditional white man like Nathan Drake or Joel, but yea it's clear Neil wants to make stories about women, and specifically diverse women, whether through gender or ethnicity. I would really like to meet him sometime and really learn what his motivations/ideas are.

i agree. i just see it as team sports. each side trying to put points on the board. if the product is good none of this matters. it’s just forum babble.

you have some odd observations. in the press release then refer to jordan as she and her so ‘she’ is not non binary. so there goes your observation.

she is a game character, she is not Tati Gabrielle, no real woman out there will become a bodybuilder because of a game.
Her presence in this fiction at most guarantees Tati Gabrielle employment in the real world, capitalizing on the black population, diversity generates wealth while the generic model of the past only generates regression. Deep down, someone thinks, hey if she were unemployed, some other actress could earn twice as much money. Maybe overcoming this kind of thinking is the point of the agenda (if there is such a thing as a fucking agenda).

Bro it's not about playing hot women, it's about playing a female looking women. That lead looks basically like a man. It's actually even less inklusive if you have to design your women to be like a man than you are a problem actually.
It's possible that you don't know what a woman is. They come in all sort of shapes and forms. Most men here probably don't even 'look like real man'. So that's a non-argument.

Like I said. Some non-binary people use she/her pronouns, they can also be gender fluid. At least educate yourself on the topic before dismissing it.

It's not a black woman, but Stellar Blade's main character is an Asian woman. She is also a minority. So why not the hate from those culture war folks?

I don't know man why do you think? Maybe because these people are typically into anime, and eastern culture is less infected with the western cultural influence that bothers them perhaps. What's your take?

Either you aren't using your eyes or you didn't look into anything from the trailer and are going off your own blind assumptions. Hobo with fresh Adidas?! The fuck is wrong with you.
