  1. She’s a women so feminism
  2. She’s a person of colour so DEI Woke Mind Virus
  3. No male lead so Anti Man narrative
  4. She’s bald and unattractive so pushing a ugly woman acceptance narrative

Either give us sexy female models or straight white men so we can relate to them and live out our power fantasy

Also she looks butch .. so LGBTQ is being pushed here
Not sure why you keep pushing this white man thing. It's not a color thing people just like the hero to look attractive. Most people would have loved it if this was the main character.

it doesn't matter, since is a woman for some reason is DEI agenda nowadays, if its not a Asian skinny woman ppl ll call DEI.
People are just tired of the western design pattern for the last 5 years or so and see through the political bs. And sometimes overreact no doubt. But a whole industry isn’t changing without strings being pulled. We know that Sweet baby inc has been there fiddling in many games and while it’s not like Netflix where everyone is suddenly turning black there is no doubt other DEI strings pulled way too often in gaming.

I’d say just bring in a truly competent and open character creator in every game. There, fixed it. Play with whatever character you want to play as. It’s your choice.

The like:dislike ratio highlights the key concern that Intergalactic, in the form shown so far, has a divisive protagonist that is off-putting to a large percentage of the core demographic.

Astrobot does not contain any such divisive content, and it is well made, so it has a high like percentage. That does not mean Astrobot is guaranteed to sell more than other games. It means that it did not have its reception undermined by flaws that are highly visible in its marketing material.

If half or more of gamers are repulsed by Intergalactic's protagonist in the footage designed to sell the game and they reconsider buying it, then Sony is leaving a nine figure amount on the table.
What do likes mean if dislikes don't mean anything?
2 reasons

I believe but cannot prove that this game has artificially high dislike numbers.

1.Due to large and many influencers bringing a lot of attention to audience's that probably weren't interested in the game but will en mass go and dislike it.

2.The old comment about a "game for everyone is a game for no one" I think has some relevance here. Every decision a developer makes alienates some fans while pleasing others. As long as the likes are at similar absolute levels to other Sony First party games I don't think Naughty Dog will worry too much.

Generally I've seen zero compelling evidence that being woke or anti woke affect game sales.

This game like all games will live or die on it's gameplay, graphics, story, world building etc.

So generic and expected
1996: Another cartoon mascot with "attitude". So generic and expected.
2001: Sci-fi cartoon platformer, so generic and expected
2007: Tomb raider with a nondescript dude. So generic and expected.
2013: Gruff white dude fights zombies, literally the most generic thing I have ever seen.

I don't know why you're judging a ND game based on the appearance of the main character. At no point in history would that have been a good idea.

Why are western developers trying so hard to push some kind of message? I still dont get their message in fact..
You don't get the message and yet you find that message overbearing? Make that make sense.

Guess you didnt follow TLOU 2 development when real life Dina was revealed. They made her nose bigger and smaller tits on the game version of her...yeah its not the engine. We can make tits as big as we want since first Tomb Raider, I doubt the "engine" was unable to somehow get them to the original size.
Can you post a thread of this?

Its package thing.. you dont like bald ugly masculinized woman so obviously you

Oldest leftists/woke bullshit ever ... pulling the race card whener they can.

the problem wasn't the actress, the problem is that WB sold the first movie as Mad Max and we got Furiosa instead, fool me once, not twice, fuck WB
Just pointing out that no one cared about the film let alone Anya Taylor-Joy's bald head.

'It doesn't copy from Guardians Of The Galaxy, because it copies from other stuff that Guardians Of The Galaxy copies from as well. But it's not copying from Guardians Of The Galaxy, even though the stuff in it is also in Guardians Of The Galaxy.'

I'd stop trying to make an argument for this game not looking derivative. You're tripping over your own cleverness.
Does it matter?

Two properties can be inspired from similar material and come across as similar.

AI can usually tell based on face shape, but has a hard time with Jordan.
Naughty Dog obviously is designing women characters to be ambiguous in terms of sexual characteristics, we saw it in Last of Us 2, despite what the simps tried to claim otherwise, women dont have bodies like Abby. It also means that they are obviously designing this character in these ways intentionally to deviate from what the actual actress looks like, who is unambiguously female.

If you want to play as this weird looking character or think it looks good, fine. But don't deny what they are doing because it is just an objective fact.

There's a place and time for everything and a space bounty hunter not gonna look like that.

Back in the 80s, this was the theme for hardcore badass women.

This game definitely took a lot of inspiration from the 80s but the anti-woke has gone mad woke with some of these takes.

80s?

G.I Jane - 1997
Alien 3 - 1992
Fury Road - 2015

And all those actresses were models or sex symbol material. Nobody thought Demi Moore looked unappealing even with shaved head. Same with Sigourney Weaver. And Charlize Theron has always been a doll face.

This is the EXACT type activism I see on the other site directed at several of games they have banned or attempted to ban there. Shit is getting old.....
We are basically at a point where both sides are acting similarly but on opposing sides.

We're facing people who are on edge, some who have had enough and some that are basically the same type of people but on opposite sides lol. There does not seem to be any balance in most of the views being expressed.

Oh we doing fantasy storytelling needs to be realistic down to the facial makeup now, when in other arguments this very hot take has been used in the generally negatively perceived way about out of place characters or races?

I think in both scenarios that excuse is ridiculous for a videogame
It is you who do not accept the character design, the problem is yours. Not all the protagonists have to be young redheads, with big breasts and dressed in latex, there should be room for other types of women. You expect that woman who travels alone to put on makeup in the morning to start the day, I can understand that she does not do it.

it's box office bomb. lost $200M

Do you really believe it had something to do with the main character being bald. She had hair for most of the movie and trailers. Its just wasn't a very good idea to make a Mad Max movie without Mad Max. Also Fury Road doesn't seem to be a big box office success like some people expect. From Wikipedia: "Although the film made a gross profit, The Hollywood Reporter calculated that the net loss incurred by the film was around $20–40 million."

A bounty hunter traveling alone through space, about to walk straight into the lion's den on a planet she likely won't escape from, first decides to do her makeup and get pretty. Makes perfect sense, right?
You really think 'sense' is the hill you want to die on when the main character looks like she wouldn't be able to take one heartbeat from the mechanical monstrosity she's about to face at the end of the trailer?

Maybe, but it still works in our favor as it shows that the anti-woke aren't this miniscule minority that the wokies try to present them as.

On the other hand, Hogwart's Legacy sold like cupcakes, despite the wokies' eternal oath to boycott it.

Makes you wonder who is the real minority, doesn't it?

Precisely why I think MC is supposed to represent non-binary people. It was a conscious design choice to name the MC Jordan, a unisex name. Jordan does not look female, does not look male. Played by a female actress, while the character leans more towards a masculine demeanour. It's all very deliberate. Again, nothing wrong with liking Jordan's character design, but lets not be in denial about the obvious.

I also don't expect a human to jump 20ft in the air with a sword to battle a giant robot. You can draw your line of realism wherever you like. Single player narrative driven games are solid firstly on the MC and this one had a very bad first reaction with most gamers. Not even a woke/antiwoke thing at this point, most people interest in this type of game don't seem to like the MC.

Lets see if I can maybe, possible (nah), start a conversation about the actual game itself....

So, easter eggs, I know of the following:
Macho Nacho cups etc. (product placement but was mentioned in Last of Us and Uncharted)
Her name is Jordan A Mun.... JAM, Naughty Dig were originally called JAM Software
The cover image of her holding the sword behind her back is a very similar pose as Uncharted 1
The game is set in something99 (photo on the wall states 4 years ago on a photo stamped 95) , so, 1999, 2099, 2199 etc. we know that space travel is the norm, due to the tech on the ship though I'd say its actually set in 1999 and not the 80's
I thought one of the CD's may have been a Nine Inch Nails CD (Only), but not so sure now, probably isnt, but it wouldnt surprise me if there is an easter egg amongst those cd's

Any others?

I don't remember a big backlash when Anya Taylor-Joy was bald in the Furiosa movie earlier this year.
It’s starting to seem like the “difference” here is that there’s a segment of dudes who can’t stand to play a game as a character they’re not attracted to, which is weird. It’s weird to care that much about something so trivial. Why do people need to want to fuck a cartoon character in order to have a good time?

Part of the narcissistic auteur profile - and I think Druckmann fits - is a desire to disturb the audience. They think that's the function of art - to disturb. In particular, to disturb the common man - to shake him out of his somnolence. I think that's partly what drives Druckmann to do this sort of thing. It's not "woke" so much as an inflated view of himself as a great Arteest (French accent), doing what he thinks great artists do.

And he's right, btw. That is partly what some great art does - it disturbs. However, the way Druckmann goes about it is very hamfisted for the most part, and the themes he tackles are trivial. He's not exactly the great arteest he imagines himself to be.

So the issue here is because Jardon doesn't look like a sex doll?

This tweet is accurate as hell.

I understand that people can take things too far, but at the same time I wonder why it is such an issue for others that men and also other women, do not find bald headed women attractive? for as many people hung up on the fact that she is bald, I have seen equal number of people trying to play the incel card.

I’m not asking for realism, I’m not asking for anything. You’re the one who can’t accept what you see and want something else. That’s your problem, not the game’s.

Not everything can or should cater to everyone’s tastes. That wouldn’t be art; it would be generic commercialism. The same thing happened with TLOU2. People nowadays can’t handle frustration and won’t accept things not being the way they want them to be. Thankfully, ND still stands firm in preserving its identity, aiming to tell the story they want, not just what people want to see

This game definitely took a lot of inspiration from the 80s but the anti-woke has gone mad woke with some of these takes.

Here’s the difference.

1. There was a time when “take a beautiful actress and put her in a role where she is stripped of femininity and becomes a badass action hero” was a really bold and striking creative decision. In 2024 it’s trite, tiresome, and played out.

2. Hollywood and game studios nowadays are echo chambers filled with activists who care more about intersectionality and subverting gender/sex roles and filling their stories with overt, artless messaging than they do about telling a good story and writing compelling characters. We’ve seen this shit over and over and over again. “Uglied up Strong Female Protagonist” is a pretty strong indicator that it falls in this category.

It’s pretty disingenuous to make it sound like it’s just some CHUDs who are irrationally upset at seeing a bald woman. This shit didn’t happen in a vacuum.
