I enjoyed the synchronised diving last night. It's just beautiful. And granted, China dominate those events, but it's nice to see Britain doing ok too.

Judo is so crap to watch, its about as elegant as beating a giraffe with golf club.

I don't know if I'm interested in "elegance" as far as sport goes but thanks for the thought.

I've actually never seen a judo-only competition. It just seemed like it would be interesting.

I've enjoyed most of the sports i've seen so far (diving, gymnastics, tennis ect) the one thing that just completely bored me is field hockey. I can watch hockey, but this just bad. The most entertaining thing about the whole sport is that it looks like they play with giant candy canes.

I like all the sports less focused on, like badminton and hockey, things like that. The athletics, gymnastics and swimming, which seem to be the focus of the olympics, don't interest me half as much.

I like the beach volleyball too. It's just fun to watch even without the hot girls. With them though...

So far, I've watched the men and women's swimming (when Michael Phelps received the world record and when Austria--or whatever country that was--received the world record for the women) and most of the gymnastics.

Watching the Gymnastics is always compelling for me. The muscular leg physique and bodies are stunning. 'Triple side-flip-forward roll-double twists' are also fun to watch.

Also swimming...and diving, just to hear the insane micro-critiques(someone should play a drinking game with the word "deduction")

yeah i am watching everything. i got alot of money riding on

Australia to win men´s 4x200 meters
australia to win women´s 4x200 meters"they won it last night and they broke the world record :)"
rubenwas to win gold in 53 kilos wightlifting"i got a super good odds on it so i took it"
bruijn to win gold in 100 meters butterfly

Actually, I love the Olympcis for the very REASON that there are so many different sports. I get tired of hearing about/watching/arguing over the same old basketball/football/et.c shit all the time. We as Americans need to fucking get out there and discover some other sports. Seriously. Hell, we only get interested in certain sports if our team DOES happen to do good (see Lance Armstrong or the US women's soccer team a few years back). I just like watching stuff that I'd normally not see at all. That's what makes it interesting for me, and I tend to find out that I actually like getting into the all the little minutia that goes into perfecting these sports. Its really amazing.

Badminton's one of the most incredible sports to watch at anytime. Alas the only time they get any coverage here is during the Olympics, so I hope to catch it when it's on.

I'm mainly into the sprints...just love the drama as they move up through the qualifying rounds. So much decided with so little. No interest whatsoever in gymnastics. Otherwise I try and catch bits and pieces whenever I can (a lot of stuff on this weekend...first weekend of the English Premier League, a stack of auto races, and the PGA Championship).

Holy shit! Did anyone watch that Serbia vs. Argentina game!!???!?

Ginobili with the buzzer beating bank shot to give Argentina the 83-82 win! INSANE!

And Argentina had like 3.9 secs to get the ball up court.

While I would rate the BBC's coverage of the opening ceremony pretty highly, when it comes to sport I wish they would drop their really annoying habit of trying to generate british interest.

During the opening ceremony we missed 4 or 5 countries going past all so the BBC could show Tim Henman calling somebody on his mobile. It was quite funny listening to the commentators trying to fill in the time as the camera lingered on the dullest thing in the entire stadium. Funny but annoying. And then more countries missed as they cut to the British athletics team in Cyprus watching the ceremony instead of letting us watch it.

I've been mostly watching the racquet sports on Bravo. Badminton is really cool. The japanese guy playing mixed doubles was hot too.

Table tennis is pretty cool too. Tennis is going to be on later as well, yay

i bettet against Florian mayer in the tennis aswell, he was feeling sick this week and he is playing against a player that he hates to play against.

i know florian abit and i am sure he will get mad at me for betting against him hi hi hi

Same here. Its also one sport i dont get to play enough of because how much it costs here in the UK to just play even for one hour.

the olympics, whether summer or winter, are fun to watch with a group of pals hanging out in a basement. i've done it for the winter and the summer. just last night we watched swimming, gymnastics, basically everything that was on. of course we switched the channels but i think we're drawn to the competitiveness of the athletes. all you have to do is turn the tv on mute and just watch whats going on, and i think the lack of bullshit to the games reveals itself.

happy nameday to myself today by the way, as it is the Assumption of Mary, a huge holiday in Greece.

That second one isn't from the olympics games though as the US is 'womens' red this year. They are also currently losing to Puerto Rico. Come on Iverson....

The second one was from the Olympics four years ago, where VC punked Frederic Weiss of France. Can't believe you didn't recognize it.

Meanwhile the current team is losing by nine...unbelievable. Ticks me off that Canada didn't make it, they'd certainly have a chance to medal the way the US seems to be going.

Make that 13. The US is getting punked...

Wow... I never guessed Puerto Rico would put on a clinic against the US team.

Up by 19 right now and it's almost the half. If they can't beat Puerto Rico, they're gonna get killed by Italy or Spain later on.

This is just sad watching Team USA. I mean there is 2 former MVPS on this team and they look like rookies. Woudlnt want to be them right now! They just dont have enough jump shooters. There is no one for Duncan to pass the ball to not to mention all the turnovers. Embarassing!

WTF, South Africa owned everyone. And Phelps dragged the US down there, IMO, he really lost ground in that second leg. Ammunition for the likes of Gary Hall Jr. for sure...

GOOAA------nope, nevermind.

Waved off for no apparent reason. Iraq got lucky there.

WTF?!? COMMERCIALS DURING A SOCCER GAME?! I FUCKING HATE THIS "COVERAGE" THESE ASSHOLES ARE PROVIDING.

Somebody PLEASE take away NBC's Olympic license. I mean, who the hell goes to commerical during a soccer game these days?

This dude called it..

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/marty_burns/08/13/olympic.team/index.html

The problem, of course, is that USA Basketball is tied closely to the NBA. And marketing is the NBA's top priority: selling jerseys, opening new world markets, spreading David Stern's gospel. Thus, when several players withdrew from the Olympic team a few months ago, James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade got the call to replace them. Never mind that Team USA was already loaded at the perimeter spots, with Lamar Odom, Shawn Marion and Richard Jefferson. The NBA couldn't resist a chance to put its three bright young stars on the international stage, even if it meant creating a logjam at small forward.

One look at the U.S. team in its exhibition games, though, and the lack of balance was obvious. Unable to knock down outside shots, our stars did what they are accustomed to doing in the NBA and tried to drive into the lane. But with the more liberal international zone rules, they were often met by four or five guys in the wrong-colored jerseys.

Pretty sad, on the TV they just said that the US is 3-25 from 3 point range on the much shorter 20'(9 inch?) shot.. compared to the 23'9" NBA or whatever regulation.

Who needs shooting gaurds or big men, when you can fill the team out with 10 small forwards and sell tons of jerseys.. woot!

WTH, did I fall into some alternate universe where the US sucks at basketball or something? Because I personally suck at it and the US team was playing like I was on the court :)

They are not playing in that group. Team USA is in group with Lithuania, Angola, Greece, Puerto Rico and Australia.

And blast from recent past :
Aug.4, 2004: Exhibition Game: Spain - Puerto Rico 113-62

Iraq wins 2-0. They move on to the quarterfinals regardless of the results of the next match. They even have a good chance to win the group.

Portugal also won over Morocco 2-1.
