I'll take a jab.

Season 1
Dalek
Father's Day
Empty Child
The Doctor Dances

The Christmas Invasion

Season 2
The Girl In the Fireplace
The Impossible Planet
The Satan Pit

Season 3
Human Nature
Family of Blood
Blink

Season 4
Silence in the Library
Forest of the Dead
Midnight

Waters of Mars

Those are what i consider the essentials.

That's the definitive list.

I'd add in Tooth & Claw - as that's probably the best example of CGI / decent direction in the show and sets up Torchwood.

really bad idea to have the guy's hair covering the bottom part of the F.

They do that all the time. :lol

Except its mostly sci-fi babes. :D

Its a great tactic for getting noticed in the magazine racks, because I've often done a double-take in the newsagents, when I've glimpsed it out of the corner of my eye. Although I've never gone to next step of actually purchasing it.

Not that I've ever noticed BUT the ZUNE marketplace has pretty low prices on each ep.

Creepy. Just creepy.

Hey, remember that countdown app some Gaffer (I think) made a while back? Well, I finally came up with a use for it; I put it in the OP. Set to countdown to 6PM (GMT), April 3rd.

I don't mind the style but I'd run a mile if I saw that as the final artwork for the DVD. Then again, I wait for the entire series to come out anyway. Then I wait three or four years so I don't have to spend a ridiculous amount on them. Maybe this series will be so good I'll feel the £80 price tag is justified.

Three new episode titles confirmed, though the first two are still subject to change:

Episode 4 -
The Time of Angels
Episode 5 -
Flesh and Stone
Episode 6 -
Vampires in Venice

Definitely don't want.

I dunno.
He's uneven, but he has his moments. Pretty sure his brand of humour won't work in Doctor Who though. It'll be another Peter Kay fiasco - though at least the Doctor will be able to save the episode this time.

Other random bits:

- Current series films until the end of March
- Next series starts filming in June, I would expect they do the Christmas special then.
- episodes 12 and 13 are very FX heavy.
- Production team acquired new cameras for the series in order to specifically give it a new look - a look compared to the likes of Harry Potter, Twilight, Tim Burton etc.
- first episode is 65 mins long.

Kinda off topic, but is Torchwood any good? I only really watched a handful of season 1, stopped watching after the cyberwoman episode.

The general consensus is that it's crap, but apparently the miniseries they did last year was quite good. I can't bring myself to give it a whirl after the Torchwood episodes I watched. I didn't think it was awful, but it didn't seem that awesome either. Doctor Who is held together by a single highly charismatic lead character....and while Torchwood has a charismatic lead, it also has a ton of other dull characters.

B-but that's June, not Christmas.

Not really ever a good sign. Aside from Tooth and Claw, New Who effects have me holding my head.

I'm on the fence about this one. We'll see how it pans out. The show needed a new look though, I think.

- first episode is 65 mins long.

Awesome.

Series 1 of Torchwood is appealing as a cheesy B-movie, but pretty poor with a few better bits. In terms of mood and quality, think of it as Russ Meyer does Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Series 2 is funnier, more appealing, but still full of so much cheese. In terms of mood and quality, think of it as Mars Attacks.

Series 3 (the mini-series) is a genuinely taut, gripping thriller, although the first couple of episodes still retain the silliness from the first two series. The third episode is phenomenal. In terms of mood and quality, think of it as Battlestar Galactica.

Thank god for that. I hated 'the look' of the first four series. It's was like the directors had never heard of filters or lighting (apart from the magenta colouring in every f**king episode).

Yeah. The RTD era just *looked* like a CBBC series.

I noticed on the trailer the colours were more subdued. If its on a visual level like Blink, then I'll be very happy.

Burton and Harry Potter-esque is fine with me. I'm all for a change in look. The last 4 seasons were so tacky and cheap looking a lot of the time. Blink and the Silence in the Library 2 Parter were among the only episodes that truly impressed me. The trailer looks to deliver a much more pleasing visual style like those episodes.

I'd recommend skipping straight to the surprisingly awesome mini-series. Series 1 and 2 are awful in every way imaginable, so you wouldn't be missing much.

The Only Torchwood episode that is any good is the one set on the moor. I think it had cannibles in that little village.

Series 1 was pretty bad, series 2 was a definite improvement but still worse than any series of Doctor Who. The mini-series was really good though.

Imagine The Xfiles, but instead of strange aliens that want to kill us all, the strange aliens want to have sex with everything.

That's Torchwood.

We could go back to wobbly sets and dudes in ugly cheap monster costumes, y'know. And don't forget the giant puppet rats!

Don't forget the monsters who look like they came from those cheap-o 'Breed alien' toys.

Torchwood I would say is better at this point - I think its because they ran of creativity and just use Darleks and Cybermen when they are struggling.

Regarding torchwood, I would skip the series, but definitely catch the children of earth miniseries which, was only 5 episodes long and really really good.

Even the Torchwood miniseries had serious problems, IMO. It collapsed under it's own pretentious weight halfway through. I found the actual series more bearable by merit of the fact that it took on mostly the same B-series whimsy that Who does.

Children of Earth is the only Torchwood you need.

Nope thats not true you need to see all of Torchwood, RTD was more competent writing that than he ever did at D Who, plus the nice thing with Torchwood is it tends not to repeat itself with enemies, unlike D Who.

Filming for today from the chaps at Gallifrey base. Moderate spoilers:

Plot synopsis of this episode, heavy spoilers:
Likely based on Doctor Who Magazine comic strip, The Lodger, originally with the Tenth Doctor, Rose and Mickey. The Doctor lands the TARDIS in present-day London, but before Amy can emerge, the TARDIS dematerializes; this causes the TARDIS to jump a "time track" and move forward several days. Left temporarily stranded in London while he waits for Amy to catch up, the Doctor needs somewhere to stay. This would be the companion-less episode like 'Midnight' in series 4.

Season 1 was mostly bad with a few genuinely good episodes (Small Worlds, Out of Time), I liked season 2 a lot more, and overall I was extremely impressed with the Children of Earth miniseries.

Basically everyone seems to think Children of Earth > season 2 > season 1.

The announcement that Smith was to take over from David Tennant as the Doctor was greeted by the nation with a huge collective question mark. Matt Smith, who he?

I found this way more humorous than I should have.

I'm definitely getting an Eccleston vibe from Smith's Doctor, although it might be a bit wackier.

Cool interview.

That sounds plain awesome.
The Doctor living a normal life sounds amazingly hilarious.

I keep having dreams that I'm watching the first episode. This is the third time now, and it's always crap. I think I subconsciously don't have faith in the new showrunners.

Holy shit, if I'm reading this right, NINTENDO is making a Doctor Who game! :O
I'd be wary about this if I were you. There already has been a Doctor Who game for the Wii and that was just a Top Trumps game, the Sun could have easily gotten mistaken between "Nintendo has agreed a contract said to be worth over £10million to create" and "Nintendo has agreed a contract said to be worth over £10million to have the game be on their systems".
They aren't the most reliable news source in the world.
