UPDATE

ESPN's Chris Mortenson is now reporting the rumored deal between the Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Redskins involves mutiple round draft picks and several potential franchise players. Unconfirmed rumors allege that any player on the Falcons roster may be part of the trade, and on the Redskins side of the deal, one of their biggest name players is rumored to be involved.

I have gone back over the FA draft, and updated them on a copy of the post progression ratings chart. I'll put that up after the FA draft is finished.

PRESS RELEASE

Ashburn, VA -- Jan 4, 2010 -- This evening the Washington Redskins have unveiled their latest offseason move, a trade that brings one of their former draft picks, Brian Orakpo, back to the team. The trade, which sends linebacker Lance Briggs to the Atlanta Falcons, also includes Washington's 2nd round draft pick (#36 overall). Atlanta also sends its 3rd round pick (#79 overall) in this year's draft to Washington. Washington still retains Atlanta's 2nd round draft pick (#47 overall) from their trade last season, which sent Orakpo and cornerback Fred Smoot to Atlanta in exchange for cornerback Antoine Cason and linebacker Stephen Nicholas. The Falcons and Redskins completed their second trade in two seasons, moving quickly in advance of Wednesday's league draft.

Also announced by Washington was an extension of general manager LiveWire's initial 3-year contract. LiveWire has been retained for an additional 2 years with an option for a 3rd year.

Team owner Dan Snyder on the trade:

"We're happy to bring Brian back to the team, we believe he's going to resume performing at a high level for us as he did in his rookie season."

On the release of Lance Briggs:

"We appreciated Lance's contributions to the team's defense last season. Obviously, our run defense was an area of concern and we thought Lance was the right choice at that time. We wish him well in his future in Atlanta."

On the decision to trade down in the 2nd and acquire an extra 3rd:

"We've been actively scouting talent that meets our needs on defense, and we'd like to acquire as many of them as possible."

On the decision to extend the general manager's contract:

"Our GM LiveWire has done an excellent job in acquiring both 1st-year contributors and future starters for our team. We believe his plan for our franchise will bring us playoff success very soon."

intangibles, motherfucker
You traded away your highest AWR guy Livewire. Now Madden wont give you any picks anymore!

three sexy trades made by the dolphins today

traded my 2 second rounders (mine, sable's) for green bay's kampman and some backup cornerback

chad henne+my 4th rounder for joseph addai and josh johnson

and a 3rd rounder for antonio pierce

so now i still have my 9th pick, and sable's 4th rounder. this ain't done...all my WR are on the block!

Yeah I'm trying to figure it out too. :lol

Trading Briggs, an all pro, for a former draft pick he traded to DCX last year? Plus draft picks were swapped in last years trade and this years trade? You gave me two quality players for Briggs, why are you parting with him for peanuts relatively speaking?

Livewire is the viakado of the madden league!

Actually Portis has my highest AWR rating. Oh well, guess I'll have to suffer without Lance!

And to Bob, he sure didn't play like an all-pro. :lol

I honestly would have gave a First rounder and probably a role player for Briggs

Well for the record, Briggs' 1st season in Chicago: 2 sacks, 52 tackles
2nd season (first 6 games in Chicago, last 10 in Washington): 1 sack, 1 INT, 2FF, 33 tackles (and I'm not 100% sure but 1 FF and sack came from Chicago)

Orakpo's 1st season in Washington: 3 sacks, 1 INT, 1 FF, 44 tackles
Orakpo's 2nd season in Atlanta: 3 sacks, 1 INT, 1 FF, 38 tackles

Landry was the only player of value to me. Rogers has stone hands in Madden (just like real life), and is not a shutdown corner. Plus, he's on the wrong side of 30 (31 now at 83 OVR). I had planned to bring in Cason (26 now at 88 OVR, improved 6 points from last season) from Atlanta anyway. I thought Briggs would do more to help the defense. I was wrong. Oh well.

Looking at the stats, Landry performed a little worse for you than me.

FWIW Landry went from 86 to 89 this offseason. :D

I can't divulge my GM stratagies for others to try and steal, but individual stats don't always tell the story. Only thing I'll add is my defense down the last half of the year was one of the best in the league...maybe the best. Dunno if I can keep it up this year though. I hope so!

Just curious about your trade. You traded a ROLB for a LOLB, and neither one of your backups look too hot at these positions. Even the rookie draft outside linebackers don't seem too good. Maybe it will turn out good for you, who knows!

you can dislike the nba all you want but i have no idea how people can justify saying college basketball is more fun to watch. same with college football too. what the hell is fun watching a ton of blowouts? the NBA and NFL have superior and more skilled athletes. i tried forever getting into the scene. my undergrad was a freaking basketball/football powerhouse (by the way lonestar I went to UT so FUCK YOU for this week! :D) and everytime i turned on the game it was some boring shit.

college basketball = pass the ball around on the perimeter, jack up a 3
college football can be fun but there's like a total of 1 or 2 entertaining games for teams all year.
Fuck David Stern.

Fuck Clay Bennett
Fuck all of Oklahoma

And fuck the NBA.

It's unfortunate that I can't go into Free Agency, pick up Brodie Croyle, change his name to Joe Theismann, and weazel a 2nd round pick trade from Livewire...

All sports suck until the playoffs (except NFL and the NBA). You of all people should know this with that horrible baseball team called the Cubs that you have to endure for 162 games..
