So Nintendo is the Mario Console. What about for people who don't want to play Mario titles? You could have at least pointed out Tropical Freeze--which I do think is one of the best DK games to date--rather than going for NSMBU which is a tweaked version of a Wii game, or Super Mario 3D World which is pretty much inferior to Galaxy in every way--and I am no fan of SMG. Mario Maker is a good idea, but it suffers much in the same way all games reliant on user-created content do, 99% of user-created content is hot garbage. Captain Toad is a new branch of Mario so I'll just toss it in there, and like I said, there's only so much god damn Mario you can get people to play.
Splatoon is okay. I tinkered around with it at a friends house--I was amazed he even still had his Wii U--and it was an enjoyable game, but I have already been having similar experiences for years elsewhere. On top of that, I hardly think it's Nintendo's best multiplayer game, when we're talking about the people who brought us various versions of MarioKart and Smash Bros.
You already mentioned Tropical Freeze, didn't you? That's why I didn't bring it up again.
But, 3D World is not an inferior version of Galaxy. Not even close. Like, we're way off topic, so I'ma just leave it there. But, ya, no. That's not right. Also, Splatoon is brilliant and one of the best shooters in quite a while. But, you really have to take time to get into it to appreciate what it is and what it offers.
But, opinions, mane, we all got them, amirite?
Edit: But your last line is my entire point. A game is supposed to be fun, first and foremost. That's like, to me at least, the entry price. There are different ways to quantify fun that isn't just "pure joy" (Super Mario 3D World) or amazing graphics (Uncharted) or awesome gameplay (Binding of Issac). These are each "fun" in a different quantifiable way. Shenmue is just none of that to me. It's a chore.
