Why would Trump's campaign set up a fight between Trump and 58% approval rating Obama? What the fuck.
I'm still awake, giddy at the idea of Obama being drawn into this tomorrow.

Any fight between Trump and Obama will end well for us. Obama got the Upside of the Schwartz; Trump got the Downside.

Some liberal economists have argued that the economy is stagnant because of lack of demand (which... I'm not sure I buy). So some conservative economists have argued that the economy is stagnant because of low work force participation rates caused by an aging workforce (true) and videogames and porn getting too good for young people to care as much about working.

GTA V is not better than FFVII or SM64 or StarCraft, I'm just going to put that out there right now, mmkay.

Porn is probably more available now than in the past though!

But still, we have economists fighting over how much impact video game and porn improvements (or lack thereof) have impacted the general malaise in the economy.

I don't see the issue. Headlines are being factual. His campaign says that he believes that Obama was born in the US. Obviously it is BS, but the news are simply reporting what the campaign said.

Abinash eats kittens because they remind him of his childhood. Headline: "Abinash reminded of his childhood"

I don't see the purpose of mocking me. I just don't see the reason to continue get mad over the media reporting about what his campaign said. I already said that statement is pretty BS anyway. Unless you want CNN to say : The Trump campaign releases a bullshit statement today.

My new favorite thing on Twitter, when confronted with a trump supporter is to tell them to get back in their basket. I usually add the word deplorable in there so there's no ambiguity. It's fun.

My intention was not to mock you but a fun example of making factual headlines out of something absurd. Trump's Campaign statement was absurd, just having a headline of "Trump says Obama born in U.S." normalizes the madness. If i were in statement snark mode, i'd say " Trump Campaign: Trump provided great service to Obama in questioning citizenship"

If he puts out a statement that's obvious BS with tangible evidence to show it's BS then they should report it's obvious BS.

Wouldn't that just make them look partisan? It is BS, pretty sure the they know it has well, but all they are literally doing is pointing out Trump's campaign says something that is relevant to the campaign and reporting it. They can talk about it being BS in a separate article or something like that, in which they already doing apparently.

Some people want the media to shit on Donald Trump because he is a piece of shit, obvious he is, but the media cannot consistently point out how much of an asshole he is because it'll be partisan and for a few of them they are there to just report news and that's it. I personally do not think it is fair to make it seem like Hillary and Donald are equal, because they aren't, although I personally do not think it is entirely up to them to do witch hunts all the time. Now if something is blatantly bullshit and is 'breaking news" like this statement they should fact check and some others as well. At the same time news outlets are a business they will report on things that they think is important and get them money, so a lot of things will make things unfair, but still I don't see the point of getting continuously upset over it. It is a reality in the campaign and Hillary needs to overcome it. She will, I believe.

How is it partisan for the news to add a disclaimer when someone is demonstrably lying? A political candidate gets a pass because "shit, we've already pointed out three of his lies today and Hillary keeps telling the truth... it's not fair!"? That's journalists abdicating their responsibly to report facts, including pointing out when someone makes a statement that is not true. And Trump lies about absolutely everything. If the media can't point that out because it seems partisan, what is the point of a free press?

USC poll saying "fuck it, we're a joke already":

Trump: 47.4
Clinton 41

It just reflects what we have known for the last week. Yes the methodology is flawed, but undeniably the race has massively tightened to the point where Trump is equal or oso in the national polls, and state polls are beginning to reflect that shift as well.

Hopefully this is the nadir of Clinton's campaign, but to be honest I'm beginning to struggle to see how she pushes through. It seems like every unwritten rule of politics and normal human behaviour has been suspended for Trump - and none of it matters to the racists supporting him.

Not really

Hopefully this is the nadir of Clinton's campaign

It's either the nadir or the nader.

Then why did trump get record low numbers when he insulted the khan family and said that he had sacrificed so much by raking in millions? Im annoyed at this "trump is an unstoppable force a d nobody can do anything about it" kind of determinism.

Yeah like that guy just said on CNN, trumps proposals are merely goals while Hillarys are actual policies based on real numbers

The difference between PAYGO and CUTGO to me.

I want better programs for people. Therefore, I understand taxes will be needed to pay for those. PAYGO makes sense; you want something, you pay for it. You are responsible for the bills.

Then the GOP took the House and Senate and changed over to CUTGO. Not only did they start cutting programs, then they started just straight up passing shit with no funding to back it, so you can say all the shit you want, but if you're not willing to actually fund it and or pass a tax to pay for it, it's a null operation. Unfunded mandates are like the cosmetic MTs of legislation.

No? Reporting verifiable facts isn't "partisan" it's what proper functioning news should be. Sam Bee is spot on in how much of a disservice the media are doing to the public and how much of a failure they are in their role in this election by trying to create the illusion of equality between the two candidates.

I think it's clear the "basket of deplorables" comment backfired on her, she just united a part of Trump's base around him. At least for the time being, it's been a failure to the general public.

But the fundamentals of the her campaign are still solid - as long as it doesn't start collapsing in key states.

I'm noting how similar the US media is now to the UK media was leading up to Brexit. The unwillingness to stamp on Trump's ignorance, idiocy and baiting of racists is horribly familiar. The media need to do-away with the both sides "impartiality". If Trump gets elected, then it'll be like Yes to Brexit - a gross dereliction of duty by all the media that should call-out racism, lies and double-standards wherever it may be. (Yes, that's a more ideological viewpoint than factual reality, but still...)

On a related-but-not note, I'm really upset I'm not in the US - I would volunteer to help Hillary's campaign like-a-shot. :/

Well hopefully the birther thing gets a lot of play.

And not just the crappy statement from the Trump campaign :(

And Clinton campaign has been lack luster on hitting Trump on these things.

Why would you ever expect the media to do this, though? Private media outlets are profit-motivated. They report what sells, that is their function. The media have done that very, very well this cycle. This isn't a dysfunctional media from their perspective.

This election and the media coverage/public responses is honestly becoming one of the most baffling, terrifying things I've ever seen. Every day still there's another several new insane Trump things -- each of which alone would positively end the campaign of any other candidate any other year -- but seeing them I'm like "so will this one also not hurt him at all? Will it HELP him?" meanwhile I'm watching every Hillary video like a hawk because I know if she sneezes or coughs again it's going to be another 3 point hit against her.

Past couple days have been exhausting, but the upshot I see is that if she clearly recovers to where she was 2-3 weeks ago it means it's really really locked for her.

But there's just no rational way to predict this shit anymore.

If the problem were declining participation rates, but productivity per worker remained high, then while GDP would be stagnant, GDP/capita or average earnings or a number of other metrics would still have been rising. Unless literally the entire workforce has been affected by the porn and vidya games epidemic, this is another example of conservatives with some economic understanding talking a load of cobblers and using it to cover for facts more harmful to their ideology.

Not sure why people re freaking out over the Clinton campaign not responding to Trump's campaign birther statement during the middle of the night.

They'll say something today when it'll get coverage.

It's a thing, so the left has to freak out about it.

I genuinely don't understand why Clinton would even bother attacking Trump over the birther comments. He'll row back on it slightly later like he has on every "pivot", his supporters won't care because they believe him regardless, people who didn't support him because he was a birther probably weren't persuaded by such a terrible statement anyway, the number of gains to be made here is just tiny. I mean think about it: who was considering voting Trump, but was just tipped over the borderline for not doing so because he was a birther, but was then reconvinced of voting Trump by this apparent retraction? That's like five people in the whole USA, tops. Don't focus on it. If anything, throwing the sink at him over this just feeds him again; he gets all the attention, dominates the airwaves, and Clinton can't define herself. This isn't the killer issue y'all want it to be.

Ignore it. Go do something high profile where you talk about your policies. Plz.

Gimme the NBC/WSJ poll

If Obama doesn't hit Trump over the birther comments, why should Clinton? Seriously, she needs to stay positive, instead of constantly talking and attacking Trump.
