It's a long time 'between now and November and Trump has nowhere but up to go.

There are only so many old conservative white men in the US and most of them are already GOP supporters

Do you really think Trump could expand his appeal to women? Hispanics? "the blacks?"

It might seem strange to focus on something like Italian ancestry, but the number of voters with ancestry from predominantly Roman Catholic countries in Europe (like Italy, Ireland or Spain) is one of the strongest drivers of Mr. Trump’s support. Conversely, a high share of voters with ancestry from Protestant northwest Europe (like England, Germany or the Netherlands) has predicted lack of support. Unsurprisingly, Mr. Trump’s support in the area includes two prominent Catholic politicians, Rudy Giuliani and Chris Christie.

That's a general election matchup.

Poor bastard's been sent to die. At least it will be good for a few laughs.

Yeah, he always is very helpful to the communities even the ones that are Republican controlled which buys him lots of allies all over. He is pretty much Senator for life at this point.

If he ever got it in his head to run for governor he'd probably clear the field, except for some poor sacrificial lamb.

Seriously though, with the GOP going after masturbation and lesbian porn.... What will most people in Red States do of an evening? I imagine that fills up a lot of their time.

Trump's national polling is going up? Well that should make snatching the nomination from him at the convention even easier and less controversial right?

Am I terrible person if one of the reasons I want Trump to win on the first ballot is so I don't have to worry about the city I live in "going up in flames"?

meanwhile on my facebook:

"sanders would be winning in a landslide if there were no voter ID restrictions anywhere and everything was an open primary!"

i'm too sober for this shit

Wait, she's that nutter that tried running in 2012 against Gillibrand! She won like 25% of the vote, basically two counties upstate, and she's trying again against Schumer? How dumb can one person be?

Shit, if I remember right she got a contribution from Citizens United.
Because no sane Republican would try. They need someone to run to at least look like they made an effort, Her actual money support is probably nothing.

The weight of Governor Edwards' executive order today has hit me. My eyes are dewy.

We have a long, long way ahead, but this would've been unthinkable a short time ago.

Killed by a goddamned Dredgeling
Am I wrong, or has Trump been noticeably quiet since the 'punishing women who have abortions' thing? Is his version of pivoting for the general just shutting up and avoiding headlines?

The last person to try managed to pull 30% of the vote, considering Long couldn't even get that against Gillibrand this is going to be hilarious.

Anyone want to bet on the eventual outcome? I don't think she breaks 20%.

There's lots of revisionist history out there about 2008. People like to draw parallels between Obama and Sanders but aside from running against Hillary Clinton and winning the youth vote, they just aren't there. Obama was a rising star with plenty of support from within the party (albeit less than Clinton initially), Clinton never appeared to be inevitable (although it was part of Mark Penn's strategy to try and portray her as such), and while Obama did appeal to people with soaring rhetoric, he could also get into the nitty-gritty of policy with the best of them. One of the things that really attracted me to him was the way he could talk about complex or nuanced ideas in a way that didn't come across as lecturing.

Biggest parallel between 08 and 16 to me is people freaking out about Sanders supporters not supporting Clinton similarly to how people freaked out about Clinton supporters not supporting Obama. (Both around the same number at the time 33%). Ended up being like 5%.

I'm not. I'm aboard the Cruz ship because Trump has zero understanding of the process and is letting Cruz walk all over him on any non-first ballot vote.

Yeah, found out from a friend in MO that all of the missouri delegates are NeverTrump folks, and after the first ballot / whenever they become unbound, they are all going to Cruz.
