Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
People can brush off this debate all they want. In reality, it's a ridiculous thing for a 2nd-place candidate to debate against the presidential candidate of the other party and can only do damage to the democratic moniker. Absolutely ludicrous of Bernie to accept this.

I think accepting the debate offer is really malicious and discourteous and proves he has no respect for the democratic party and its nomination process. I haven't really been flustered by Bernie news in a while because it was all very self contained but this puts him back in the national spotlight when he hasn't earned it.

I don't think Bernie had any other choice, if you look at it from his perspective. He's scheduled to go on Kimmell tonight, the night after Trump talked about it on Kimmell. If he says no, he looks weak for declining a debate (for CHARITY nonetheless) ahead of the only primary he's got left to prove that he's a stronger candidate than Clinton. So he called his bluff ahead of the TV appearance tonight.

Donald Trump doesn't want to debate Bernie. The last time Donald Trump was supposed to debate Bernie, he backed out because of scheduling conflicts. If the debate even were to happen, Bernie isn't going to attack Clinton. I don't think he particularly likes Clinton, but he's struggled the most against her in debates because at the end of the day their policies are pretty damn similar. By comparison, Trump is the personification of everything that Sanders hates, personally and policy-wise. If Sanders was Don Quixote, Trump is a big fat windmill that he would tilt at until the end of time.

Really? She was right not to debate him. At this point, she is far ahead of him in popular votes, delegates, and superdelegates. Dude tried to make his case and lost rather badly.

She's right not to debate him if that's the best strategic move for her. If her not debating him means he debates Trump and she ends up at best losing a news cycle and at worst getting double-teamed, that's probably worse than her debating Sanders instead where she'd probably be perceived to win. As such, this was a bad strategy, so she wasn't right to do it.

I mean, it's an easy mistake to make, I didn't see it coming either, but then again, I don't imagine Sanders did this out of the blue, so if I were her I'd probably know he'd considered doing this.

I've mostly stayed out of the weird Bernie / gun control debacle because I'm personally not very familiar with PLCAA enough to have much of an informed opinion, but I had no idea until recently he was one of the senators that voted to deny the CDC funding to study gun violence.

Granted, he's changed his stance (somewhat?) since then so I don't want to go too ham on him (I'm certainly of the opinion politicians can change their mind), but it's weird to be running on a platform of socialized medicine while having an inconsistent history in supporting the study of one of the most important public health issues in the nation.

Haha, and people want the DNC to give some kind of concessions to this egomaniacal man that can't stand he's losing a primary fair and square? Get bent, Bernie! I can't wait until I never have to see his smug face ever again.

I don't know if I want them to. But it is something they can do. He clearly has the leverage.

Unless something changed, hasn't the NRA itself actually been a legal barrier to the CDC investigating?

Maybe Bernie thinks it's a way to share ideas? To present his ideas as a lasting message, which surely has already happened to some degree?

Maybe he wants to showcase Trumps already obvious hatred, ignorance, and foolishness?

I would believe this but he's been very cynical and petty lately.....ingraining conspiracy theories etc.

Probably. I've not followed his recent tirades, as I kind of lost supporting him as he became more of the bulletpoint person, just repeating himself.

Not every problem on earth is from Wall Street, and unfortunately for him, Sanders lacks the social capital to invest in the ideas he wants (some of which I like more than Hillary's) but surely faces the Legion of Doom known as Republicans in office.

I can at least accept Clinton, because while I despise some of her spin and dislike some of her responses to issues, she, like Sanders, are the only motherfuckers in the game that even accept problems within reason. The alternative is just too drastic and too ignorant that it will only pour salt into the wounds, and we as a collective are a body that needs stitches and chemo.

I agree that Sander's extreme focus on Wall Street is probably why his message isn't helping him win with everyone.

I would hope Hillary isn't double teamed considering Bernie's values are much closer to her's than Trump's. It would show his true character if he too attacked her. It could be potential for damage in the GE.

Well, you know that he won't defend her. He's shown to be almost incapable of doing it.

Yes, I forgot that Bernie Sanders is the only progressive left in this campaign. He is the father of progressivism.

I was not speaking of progressivism itself, but some ideas. For example, the notion of a universal health care system as single payer. I think this is where he and Clinton still differ, for example. That may last, even if he, as the candidate talking about it, falls from the race. Do you follow?

I am not saying Clinton is some middle of the road hawkish shill twerker lady. Please don't take it that way.

I mean, I'm absolutely confident he won't do that. But all he needs to do get leverage is make Clinton think he might do it; and if her supporters are a reasonable analogue for how she feels about it, she's pretty shook.

the notion of a universal health care system as single payer

I'd hesitate to call that progressive, it's honestly closer to dishonesty.

We cannot transition to single payer in the US in the next 8 years, probably not even the next 20 years. We can have universal health care and have it be multi-payer, which is much more attainable given it's closer to our current system.

Bernie has to know this, or he's an idiot. Hillary knows this so she proposes expanding the ACA, which is all Bernie could do anyway!

Oh god. It's been 8 hours since this popped up and it's only getting more intense. I'm concerned.
Clinton should be debaTED.
This would be an equivalent level of stupid. No, really. Actual nominee debating the opposing loser which an axe to grind on ideological matters that the party hates. Cruz rigging the convention is about equally as likely as Sanders getting it. So in that regard they're both still in the game! Except not.

I never once said this would be a flick of a switch, or that such a thing would happen if he got into office. Ideas take time, and what I was getting at is that ideas can be put into action long after they've been proposed. How long has it taken us to get to the default state of acceptance regarding gays? Decades. We're that fucking stupid to get back to square one, and that's an easy fucking example to cite.

To out myself here, I am a big hooker for basic income, but I am all but assured I will be in poverty and die long before any developed society gets the common sense to implement it. That doesn't change the fact I will shill that idea as it can solve problems now, and the sooner we entertain it we can avoid further problems looming on the horizon. No candidate has even entertained the notion other than hand waving it, which Sanders and Clinton both poorly did.

Funny thing, I don't see that many Hillary fans going crazy of this.

It's the Bernie stans I'm friends with going nuts.

I think it's kind of hilarious in how absurd it is. Bernie is falling right into a Trump trap and he either doesn't even realize it, or thinks he can work around the obvious bait and make Trump look bad.

I don't really think there's any real concern for Hillary supporters to panic about this circus. If anything, we should be happy Trump took the spotlight away from the email report from yesterday.

Well that was a fun couple of hours thinking about this parade of madness.

I think they hate Hillary so much at this point, they are ecstatic at the prospect of both these guys bashing Hillary for an hour.

Eh, kind of mean at that point.
Lmao at least he shows himself as a coward.

Except he has. You guys have invented a boogie man Bernie in your minds that is so far disconnected from reality it's crazy.

I have no idea who "you guys" is suppose to be. In the past 2 months he has been incapable to say anything without throwing some shade on Hillary or the DNC.

Isn't opinion already moving this way, though? Bernie staying in the race doesn't have to happen.

I can think of at least one den of Hillary supporters that has completely lost its shit.

I'm going to go ahead and not care about this for 48 hours and then see where we are on it.

Edit: by the time I posted this post it was already over

I just think it makes more sense to talk about improvements to the ACA than to say "single payer!". I mean, single payer would be cool if we could go back in time and restructure our health insurance and medical system, but with all the insurers that exist now and the weird pricing structure we have the best bet is to keep incremental reform that we've been doing under Obama. Sanders could say "ideally we would have a single payer system, but here's my plan for realistic universal multi-payer care ACA expansion". I'd be more of a fan of that

I'm a big fan of basic income too. Especially with heavy job automation coming from technological growth, we're going to be in a really odd situation where unskilled labor loses almost all value. But people still deserve to have food and shelter. Also this removes the need for food stamps and the unfair legislation that the GoP tries to pass for people on welfare and food stamps, making them out to be criminals and trying to drug test them, etc.
