I'd maybe allow full decriminalization for research, but there are certain drugs I don't think should be allowed for possession. Stuff like meth, heroin, crack, etc. Basically anything that is highly addictive and causes physical bodily harm. Determining that line would be tough, but if you don't mind, could you explain why you would want those types of drugs decriminalized for possession? Again, for medicinal research I'd even allow those, but beyond that I'm not sure.
It is very hard to draw a line and the current drug schedules we have are completely arbitrary and unfounded. For example, heroin is schedule 1 (totally illegal) but morphine is schedule 2 and is used for medicinal purposes. They're literally the exact same thing, just in 2:1 ratios. Heroin is also known as diamorphine. So 1mg heroin = 2mg morphine. You think it's because it's more potent? Nope, fentanyl is a legal prescription drug and it is magnitudes higher in potency than either of those. So I guess heroin is illegal just because of the name? In other countries they can just prescribe you heroin
I would want all possession of drugs decriminalized because I dont believe in punishing victims. When drugs are illegal, then criminals are making huge profits. Make them less illegal and you can cut out a huge chunk of the Mexican and colombian drug cartels source of money. They cause so much violence not only in their own countries but all across the US. Cut off their source of money.
Only if you decriminalize them, create a period of tabula rasa, and start regulating the drugs which we know have addictive properties and toxicity risks.
It'll probably be the only way to get a good deal of psychotropics legal in the first place. And I actually don't think your idea is radical, actually.
I agree with you
Current one!
Yeah, I'm not really cool with certain super hard drugs being legal. Stuff like meth is almost guaranteed to affect other people in ways that can be dangerous. Stuff like pot and party drugs, who cares.
Meth is dangerous and I've never done it. Except in a dream, after watching Breaking Bad once. But you know what, meth wouldn't even be a thing if it wasn't for the crackdown on cocaine. Meth arose out of that demand. And it's way worse for your health than cocaine ever was.
And that's not the only example. Make one drug illegal and chemists will make a new one that takes its place. In some cases, change a single molecule, it's a new chemical, and it's not illegal. LSD is illegal so they made 1p-LSD, ETH-LAD, AL-LAD and other lysergamides. So now instead of using the more well researched LSD we have people doing new drugs. And these drugs could have potentially harmful effects. For example, MT-45 is a synthetic opiate that causes hair loss. But it was legal so people bought it. Would've just been better if they did heroin.
By the way some children are prescribed meth for their ADD. No, I dont mean adderall, I mean desoxyn, which is literal methamphetamine. Its not very common but it does exist. So according to the US law, meth has medical use but marijuana doesn't. Okay
Our drug laws do not have a basis in reality.
Xanax is schedule IV. LSD, shrooms, dmt are schedule one. Guess which one of those had me make a complete fool of myself? LSD doesnt make you think you're superman and jump out the window to fly. Xanax on the otherhand will make shoplifting, driving, and starting fights look very tempting.
But it's okay because your doctor prescribes it!
By the way, MDMA ("molly") has been shown time nd time again to outright cure PTSD. Shrooms have stopped cluster headaches. Ketamine is being used as an antidepressant. Let the people decide for themselves what is good for their body.
