It seems like she is reactive so often because trump will say something controversial and win the news cycle, prompting her to respond. She could try proposing some bold policy, instead of being all "I'm the sane one" all the time

Nobody is really going to care about policy, the media will be focused on Trump's antics all the time.

Poor Megyn. Her interview flopped in viewers, and was panned by the media.

There was a good point made about Megyn Kelly I read somewhere - she wants to be, and presented the special as, the second coming of Barbara Walters, right? But BaWa got people to give interviews who didn't want to do so, whereas Trump would talk to a hole in the wall - so what the hell is so special about that, even with the debate dustup?

Interesting:
Obama could have kept it competitive if he had well, competed there in 2012.

Went from 47% in 2008 fighting tooth and nail to 46% in 2012 without lifting a finger.

The fact that they have runoff elections for statewide races though will probably hold Dems back for a good while.

Did we really try in Georgia in 2008? I don't remember...I remember thinking it was stupid to spend resources in NC, though....so what the hell do I know.

Are there any states that are trending towards the GOP?

I think she's still holding back because of the primary not being over. It's a fucking headline when she says "I'm going to be the nominee" right now so going big on Trump wouldn't be s effective.

Not to mention the fact that when a plane crash happens, CNN basically stands for Crash News Network.

ISIS is usually pretty quick to jump on this stuff if they manage to actually kill people.

Not sure if the Muslim Brotherhood would do it?

And no one is taking credit for the plane crash.

It's a weird situation...

If it's a cell in Paris that somehow did it, they would be smart to not announce that it was them.

So I'm watching women's college softball for whatever reason

And the stadium they are playing in in Oregon is called Jane Sanders Stadium

Connection?

Obama didn't visit (IIRC) but he did run ads in late October.

Did Obama do the same with NC? I'm surprised that NC flipped before Georgia. You would think Georgia's higher black population, along with Atlanta, would push Georgia to the blue side faster. Would be nice to see the entire eastern seaboard lit up as blue on election night someday. I suppose SC will always be the last hold out.

Did I miss the thread and conversation about this?

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...s-gun-restrictions/ar-BBthEa5?ocid=spartanntp

NRA leaders were blistering in their condemnation of Clinton, accusing her of threatening Americans' freedom and being driven by personal greed. During one speech, an NRA leader briefly played a video showing Clinton barking like dog.

Holy shit. I wouldn't expect more of them, but shit like that is going to win Clinton more support than it's going to cost her.

I still think the business cycle and economy ensure they can still win elections before the party re-adjusts. A recession or prolonged low growth period could hand republicans the White House. Not to mention the danger of Hillary not getting much of anything accomplished in her first term, assuming republicans keep the House. Bad economy, lack of keeping promises, and the inevitable petty Clinton scandals could create a climate for republicans to exploit.

Yeah, I mean, I think there will probably be a Carter in the GOP's future -- a "problem-solving" president who gets elected with an ostensibly friendly Congress which ends up not being able to do anything productive, leading to him signing bills passed with Democratic votes in order to, say, fund the military. Americans just love divided government and eventually they'll go back to the GOP. But I don't think the GOP will be able to do much at a federal level even when they get the White House at this point.

I remember a lot of people arguing that contesting Indiana was a total waste. I was all for it on the basis of being born and raised there.

Generally speaking the Upland South has been trending Republican. Most dramatically West Virginia, which was a Dukakis state in 1988 and which gave Clinton a larger margin of victory than California did in 1996, but went for Romney by an over 25 point margin in 2012.

I was one of those who thought messing with Indiana was a waste. Again, glad I was wrong, though. I totally didn't know he did anything at all in Georgia in 2008. I'm guessing he thought the higher than average AA vote would help him have a chance to carry the state.

I've reached the part of 1600 with Sippy Cup.....ugh.

I've come to the conclusion that the most annoying position in political debates is "yeah, but you don't know that for sure".

No shit.

I'm going to advocate something that has never worked in the past and would certainly be harmful to many people because this time it might work.

NC is more urban overall than Georgia. Atlanta only has 450k population, and that's the only city over 200k in Georgia.

Charlotte alone is almost twice as big: 800k. Raleigh, 430k. Durham, 250k. Greensboro, 280k.

The populations of the states themselves are very similar (10 mil), so I think Atlanta's politics has less of an effect on the rest of the state than NC's urban centers do.

Talking of demographic changes, do you guys think Florida might soon be completely out of reach for any future republican presidential candidate?

Why does Hillary like $8 so much?

I make fun of Sanders for TWENTY SEVEN DOLLARS, but I don't think Hillary has ever asked me for any other amount besides eight dollars.

However, Atlanta is a bigger metro than Charlotte (5.5M vs. 2.4M). Of course, much of suburban Atlanta is quite conservative.

I think it's based on how much you donate

When I hadn't donated it only asked me for $1

I donated $3 to get my woman card, now it askes me for five bucks.

Maybe there's tiers, but I've bought the $25 ($25+18 with shipping) pints and given a $5 donation.

She still only asks for $1.

Maybe I'm slacking :(

Oh man my friends band just covered that matchbox 20 song at this show they were doing. I went crazy at the "heaven she said baby, ITS 3AM I MUST BE LONELAH!" part

Are you more drunk than me atm?!

(I'm actually barely drunk.)

I actually agreed with Sippy Cup,though...maybe I'm shit faced and don't know it

Atlanta is a bit unique with it's wealthy AA suburbs in the W and SW and heavy immigrant NE. Everywhere else though is very conservative.

I find suburban voting patterns interesting for how much they vary from metro to metro. Suburban Chicago is generally competitive (in fact, its shift from solid Republican to competitive was a significant factor in Illinois going from a swing state to a solid blue state). Suburban Milwaukee is very conservative to the north and west while the southern suburbs are more competitive. The Indianapolis suburbs are pretty much all super Republican.

It really can vary a lot.

I mean, obviously Georgia wasn't as contested as Ohio or Florida, but he certainly did compete there.

OFA believed Bob Barr (Libertarian candidate) being a former and influential GA Congressman could have an outsized performance there of roughly 6% while Obama and McCain would take 47% each. Obama met his target - Barr did not.

That's pretty cool. didn't know any of that.

I might be. Can't tell. I'm too happy rocking out to 90s covers to analyze my drunkness

Yasss get that drank on with 90s music! GET yo gameboy outttt

Assuming the House and senate don't flip this year, they'd be able to do (and undo) quite a lot in 2020. Assuming they get rid of the filibuster. It's certainly a small window of opportunity though, and nominating Trump makes it even smaller.

https://shiksappeal.wordpress.com/2016/05/18/berned-by-bernie-sanders/

I know this is anecdotal but it is a very interesting read from someone who was very supportive of Bernie and transitioned to queen based on his shit campaign team.

Also the part what the only on the record thing was Bernie's belief that people with chronic pain should focus on yoga and meditation is fucking bullshit
As someone who lives wiith chronic eye pain (you know how it feels to have a hair in your eyes? Welcome to my world 24 hours a day....) I'd cut off my left arm to be pain free for a week. get out of here with that bullshit

So, I see Bernie smear tactics are becoming significantly more elaborate, but she's overcooking her goose:

Meanwhile, I became more frustrated because Hillary Clinton was including us in every speech, ad campaign, debate performance and even intersectionality graphics of disabled people of color in her literature.

And, it took me all of fifteen minutes of research to show the attack, as I already knew, is complete horseshit (over the decades of his public service, he hasn't proven himself as a fighter for the disabled, really?), as highlighted by the RespectAbility article: Sanders Campaign First to Fill Out #PwDsVote 2016 Campaign Questionnaire

Washington, Jan. 25 – RespectAbility, a nonprofit organization working to empower people with disabilities to achieve the American dream, has asked all of the presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle to fill out a questionnaire on disability issues. While many campaigns responded positively that they are working on it, the Bernie Sanders campaign is the first to respond with a fully completed #PwDsVote 2016 Campaign Questionnaire for people with disabilities (PwDs)

Both the article and Bernie's campaign web page Fighting for Disability Rights pre-date your article by many months, and I have no doubt that Bernie would represent an infinitely stronger advocate for disabled Americans than Hillary, especially with her overeagerness to commit our service men and women to more ill conceived wars.

P.S. I'm not going to drain the battery of my DS3 on the pathetic marijuana angle, especially with Hillary's pro private prison / big pharma stance (both stand to lose yuge with outright marijuana legalization)...

Suikoguy

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
That's cute Dan, glad your ps3 is still working.

I don't buy that he types with a controller though, shit that would take forever no matter how good you got at it.

I could type with a DS3 better than on my iPhone.....mess.

Also, if we're going to turn the whole disability webpage thing into the gold standard, Hillary was the first Democratic candidate to have a page on her website dedicated to issues in the disabled community. Before Bernie did....which, again, reinforced what the woman in the article was getting to. That he, in her opinion, has been lagging behind Queen on this issue.

Who the hell knew of Sanders before this election, anyway? A nobody became a fucking messiah. Not even Obama supporters were that rabid.

I can't believe that >=40% of America is going to look at a guy who thinks vaccines cause autism and think "I could vote for this guy to lead the country and control thousands of nuclear weapons."

It's not like Hillary or Jeb or the rest even think it's worth attacking because people don't care. And that's just incredibly sad.

You're overthinking it. Most Republicans will fall in line and vote for their party's nominee. They aren't thinking about the little details

"Oh he won't actually do that stuff" when asked about anything crazy

I first heard of him when he did this filibuster in 2010. I didn't look into it too much at the time, but I remember thinking "at least someone in Congress is arguing for the middle class!"

I'm a bit more aware of the necessity of compromise now, and I have not fully looked through that tax deal so I won't comment on that any more that I already did.
