The Dark Knight Rises |OT| The Legend Ends (Warning: Unmarked Spoilers Within)

The football scene will be the thing nay-sayers latch onto as too goofy, while in the same breath criticizing the film for being too grim-dark.

People love ignoring the lack of context in movie previews. I remember when there was audio of Bane talking while they filmed a scene outdoors, and people were complaining that his voice was terrible. Ignoring the fact that it was, at that point, just Tom Hardy standing outside in a pitch speaking with a bulky mask over his mouth, not Bane in the final movie.

"inconsistent tone" is the criticism you're looking for:

See: Batman Returns, which goes from stupid grim dark to fuckin' propeller umbrellas and rocket penguins at the drop of a hat.

Sounds pretty consistently macabre to me. Just like how The Dark Knight Rises is going for an epic sort of grandeur. The reason the tone probably won't be inconsistent is because the scene probably won't be goofy in the film. Like most ITT are saying... in context, it'll probably work very well particularly in terms of scale. Still, it'll be one of the big sticking points for the straw-clutchers, to be sure.

Disclaimer: assuming this is the film BatGAF deserves.

The art book has the aftermath of the football scene. Goofy is the last thing I thought.

I am hyped.

DM, do you have the book? I'm wondering because I don't believe it's in stores yet (at least in Canada).

If there are scans available..I'd consider taking a gander at them. I'm buying the book ASAP, regardless.

Are there spoilers in the book? Should I wait to order until I have seen the movie?

There are some spoilers, but it was stuff I knew since last year so I was ok with it. Avoid it if you've been good so far. I haven't read any of the text yet, I just did a quick flip through.

There are some great Catwoman shots that make me think "Why the fuck was that first photo the one they picked?", especially since there are better pics of her on the Batpod.

Can't stand it anymore but I loved it as a kid. Val wasn't bad.

Think I was the opposite of most of you guys, fully trusted Anne as Catwoman but had 0 faith in Bane until we saw him in action.

I decided to come back here after the trauma that was yesterday, but a bit nervious. That being said I was really upset when they casted Ledger as Joker, and after how that turned out I have nothing but 100% faith in whatever Nolan decided to do. Hell he could have casted Pee Wee Herman as Bane and because its Nolan I would be on board. :)

Im so glad i didnt build into the prometheus hype, i went in one day and it was the only thing on and thought it was a fun ride.

I was mainly worried by the fact that outside of comics Bane has never been a good villain, he even sucked in TAS.
Pee Wee as Bane is awesome.

Yes. And the worst thing is, I thought it was a worldwide release until two days ago when I was making plans with my friend, until he gave the bad news. :(

I'm from Brazil.

I know your pain bro... btw, I am watching at imax here in SP.
Also I am grateful that BB is coming back

I luckily missed out on whatever spoilers that guy posted yesterday... what was it like exactly? Did he just write out a bit of plot line (in order to deliberately spoil), or did he just not spoiler tag something he wanted to discuss?

He wrote the spolier over and over again. It was one sentence and was bolded and underlined, and he copied it about 20 times and put it in 3 seperate posts.

From an ipad news page

Locking in Rises' sure-to-be-talked-about climax; fleshing out the story with his writers, David S. Goyer and his brother Jonathan Nolan; and finding a tone that could blend the "romanticism" of Batman Begins with the "relentless crime thriller" of The Dark Knight.

"I looked at different third films and I'm not going to mention any of them. I will cop to this: The Lord of the Rings trilogy was in the back of our minds the entire time we were making these. What Peter Jackson did was completely different. He had the whole story for all three films; he was physically capable of shooting it all at once. I can't imagine doing it myself. It's one of the great achievements in movies.

I won't hear the end of it from Solo and Sculli.

What do you mean? We both come at LOTR from *VERY* different perspectives. He's a fanboy whereas I think FOTR is a great film and the other two are totally mediocre.

I mean that Nolan wanted more Batman Begins in TDKR (you) and Nolan was inspired by Peter Jackson (Sculli).

Fellowship is probably my personal favorite but I kinda see them all as one film. As in I see each one as a different act instead of a standalone movie. I'm epic that way. I felt the same about Deathly Hallows, as Part 2 was literally the third act of the book and Part 1 was the first two acts.

That being said, you're insane.

And it was a movie-ruining plot point?

If so, damn that seriously sucks. I don't know what I'm still doing here frankly.

Also, could he not have just been making it up?

Right guys, I have an idea.

got TDK on DVD, and ripped onto my PC. Batman is goddam near impossible to understand through all the growling. I might dub over his lines. I'll post the results on youtube once I'm done.

Oh, who got banned? NotTheGuyYouKill is still banned? Sculli is banned? They're dropping like flies.

I got banned whilst I was asleep (called the spoiling idiot a c**t!).

woke up, and I was unbanned. Yeahhhh.

Not a spoil, but a tool which would certainly help to understand the story:

The literary inspiration of TDKR comes from a Charles Dickens's novel: A Tale of Two Cities.

Don't know if it has been already post.

Yeah, studied it at school. Good comparison.

Also, sorry for mistaking you for the guy who posted the spoiler earlier in the thread! You've done no wrong. I'm just terrible with names.

haha

Anne Hathaway deserves Catwoman spin-off, says Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan says Anne Hathaway is so good in The Dark Knight Rises that she should get her own spin-off movie.

The British film-maker, whose final Batman instalment arrives on 20 July on both sides of the Atlantic, said Hathaway had got under the skin of the character in a manner that left him genuinely impressed.

"Anne is incredibly precise and articulate about the psychology of the character. She's really built it from the ground up, it's just a delight to watch her perform," he told Access Hollywood. "The thing she does in those heels is not to be taken lightly. She's an incredible character and we're very excited to see her and hopefully we'll leave people wanting more."

Asked if that meant he would be interested in taking charge of a future Catwoman movie, Nolan said: "For me, Gotham and these characters, I'm done. I've told our story and I'm moving on [but] I certainly think she deserves it – she's incredible."

Hey, no problem :)

I'll try to look at this book even if my english skills are average.

Not gonna rehash Nolan stuff again, but I really disliked a LOT of the decisions they made with AC. I thought AA was near flawless and easily the best superhero game ever, but AC took like 10 steps back for me.

AC was by far a better game and the best game last year by far. Nolan is a visionary and finally gets what Batman should have always been in the movies.
