The Order: 1886 | The Evolution of the Half-Breeds

It almost sounded like they were saying you get to turn into a Lycan... That'd be cool.

Otherwise this game seems entirely dull. I wish their demo hadn't been an on-rails shooter. Maybe I'd be more excited for it if I knew there was actually more of a game to it.

For what it's worth, it actually plays really well.

I liked the way devs arent going to spoil the entire game before u play it anymore. Some people hate it. Me I prefer it. I dont want games to become like movies, where the previews show u the best parts. I loved the Uncharted 2 demo, but can u imagine how amazing that segment wouldve been if you played it for the first time and not seen it?

Besides, its not like the game is coming out this year. We still have Gamescom in August. Gotta save something to show there

I have to hand it to the team, they did a really good job of designing the Half-Breed enemies in a way that elicits actual fear. They're way gnarlier than I ever thought they'd turn out, and my hopes of the game having some genuine moments of horror have increased tenfold.

I agree. The enemies should offer some variety, between humans and werewolves, etc.

The ONLY thing that has me worried about this game is how often they're going to take control away from the player. There was an awful lot of that going on in recent videos, and it would kind of suck if that happens throughout the game with such frequency.

One thing that I think is really cool that even during conversations, there's usually something that the player can control. The game doesn't directly tell you but you can move and examine new weapons, pieces of paper, etc during the cutscenes because it's all real time.

This.
THIS...

Man, it's really awesome that they're doing the transformations in real time by morphing the character itself. That's nuts.

Would be interesting if there's other beasts and they hold it a secret until the game comes out. Would be one hell of a surprise.

The Order are the Vampires. 2 groups fighting over a food resource - people. Only The Order are "protecting" us - maybe.
This would be amazing.

That sounds good.

Isn't it odd how the more human you make a monster, alien, etc. look, the scarier it is? Wonder why that is.

If the real-time transformation of geometry, material and rig is true, that is quite a technical feat.
But the design of the creatures is too... unspecific. When I saw the video during e3, I just thought it was a random ghoul, rather than a "realistic" werewolf. Maybe the confusion is why they released this video. Between clever and clear, always choose clear.
Wonder what the vampires will look like...

I know I am in the minority, but the more I see of this game the less excited I get. I don't know what it is either. Something about it is turning me off. The walking backwards and shooting at the lycan thing seemed slow and not very challenging. It looked like it was prepping you for a cutscene.

If the whole game is just lycan/werewolves...my interest in this game has dropped SO FAR off the radar.

I expect there to be different variations of lycans. But I'm personally glad they chose lycans. At least they didn't choose generic trolls, orcs, spiders, etc.

I'm pretty sure you're in the MAJORITY. I don't know why but peoples interest was piqued and then not anymore.

Yeah, the footage shown has diluted my hype to almost non-existent.

Man The Order threads always produce the best comments.

Personally I like the design and approach and am intrigued at their approach to the transformation.

Overall I'm still a little cautious on the overall gameplay but the developers enthusiasm and design choices are good to observe.

This is me for sure. I was super hyped after the reveal, and the premise is one that I would love to see play out, but everything from the "filmic experience/can't get around the gameplay" to the flacid, barely interactive E3 demo, to the delay to early next year, and I'm finding it really hard to keep caring. If they'd just put out some raw gameplay of some kind, I think it'd turn around a lot of people.

The actual gameplay impressions of the floor demo, which was different from the stage demo, have been quite positive.

Not really impressed by the design of the monsters so far, but if they are really going to create intelligent enemies that try to trick you and not just end up being cannon fodder then my excitement levels will probably rise.

Also, I wonder if we'll encounter them in groups as well; I would love a huge "humans vs lycans" battle.

God this game looks so good I can't wait.

I hope it's successful and Sony makes them apart of the worldwide studios.

I think the lycans look really good and potentially are going to be quite the adversary in the game. I hear what everyone is saying about the game being on rails (as far as we've seen). I'm hoping for more from this game than that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. It's still a ways out before it's released.

Opposite.. werewolves have increased my interest.

Now the game doesn't sound like another cover shooter, but this one is set in Victorian england.

Makes the gameplay more interesting than shooting dudes behind cover.

Absolutely agree with you and looking forward to playing this game!

Just realized how badly executed that whole cutscene with Galahad thrown through the glass is.

The half-breed takes ages to enter the room after, then when he does, he sniffs the patch of blood and says he knows the guy is in there? Well no shit, you just threw him in there, lol.

This is obviously cut/edited to get right to the meat of the subject as Lady Igraine is also in that scene. They are PURPOSELY not showing everything.

The full demo was shown behind closed doors. It was an 11 minute sequence cut down to three on stage, hence the pacing issues.

Wow, they're even putting black bars on their Dev Diary videos lol. I really hope this game ends up like Tomb Raider where they showed tons of QTE's in trailers, but the game ended up being a lot better than the terrible PR let on.

Oh my God, Sony, you're screwing this game's marketing. People actually think that this plays bad since you aren't focusing on gameplay. Change that already. I did like the video and love seeing the passion that the RAD guys have, but the lack of showing promising footage can hurt the view on the game.

More on topic: Love the details they're applying to the game. The expansion of the rib cage, the face and the transformation of the eyes are impressive. Not sure if I understood correctly, but did they say it showed the skin changed color because of blood irrigation? That'd be awesome.

or people need to stop jumping to fucking conclusions based off of early footage?

Would be amazing if a team could just show off different sections of the game as productions moves along and not have people react like what they are being shown is EVERYTHING. Hell when they teased the first gameplay footage you had people actually talking like fighting in alleys was the only place you would ever fight in the game.

If people relaxed more, you wouldn't run into these types of situations.

It will be interesting to see how the game does because of the bad marketing going on with it.

That is what I got from it which is awesome, If you watch the E3 Demo when the light from Galahads lantern hits the Lycans hand it shows what he is talking about.

Edited to add:

The music from the video in the OP has me very confident in the score for this game glad I decided on premium.

I don't think they are very believable when they transform in real time, that is something that just can't happen. A bone and muscle structure can't just say "hey, now we will get totally rearranged in 10 seconds." that is just stupid.

Almost as ridiculous as skin shooting back together because of a shot of magic grape juice. I mean, really, how dare this game. If I saw something like that happening right before my eyes, I'd give them a good lecture on how unrealistic it was.

What does a werewolf look like?
