Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

The buff goes away yes, until you pop a new coin, but you keep the enhanced chance of a drop due to not picking one up.

Basically if you pop one once, you have a 1X chance to get a drop, and that keeps going up each time till you get an engram. So 9 times later with no engrams earned, your chance is now 9X. This resets once you grab an engram (so you don't grab em).

It also seems like there's a cap to the chance increase, not 100% sure though.

So you're saying is to not pick them up, have them instead be delivered to the postmaster, and keep running ultra runs? I'm a little confused on when you pop a coin then since you're saying the enhanced chance of dropping doesn't go away until you pick it up.

Awesome, just got Jade Rabbit from the coin trick. Wish I knew about it earlier! I had already bought 3 engrams lol was about to buy a fourth when I read it.

Without doing anything to try and earn them, my Hunter had picked up 39 strange coins so far from the Taken King. That was enough for an exotic (got the new one for the Warlock), a three of coins, and a helmet engram - the year two Celestial Nighthawk. Not bad.

If I'm not equipped to offer an opinion on the game because I'm critical of it (while still playing it) then neither are you because you're so clearly invested in the game that you're not going to see nor admit to any faults. I absolutely feel the campaign missions are too little and too short for the asking price. There is virtually no build up to the menace of the big bad of the expansion. You see maybe two instances of him fucking factions up, there is no sense that he is this inexorable, crushing villain. Instead you wreck his shit in a handful of hours. A few more missions to highlight why he's a threat would have been nice. As it stands it's over in the blink of an eye. I remember the vanilla Destiny campaign being longer and that cost $60 compared to the $40 for this.

Yeah I'm likely going to get a bit more out of it because I enjoy the multiplayer versus with friends but going back to the grind doesn't interest nor seem like meaningful content to me. Post campaign content that asks me to go do crucible matches or run generic patrols isn't a meaningful continuation of the story. Quests that ask me to create orbs of light aren't meaningful content.
After you've completed those missions which make up the main quest, there's at least 6-8 extra missions (not Patrol bounties, actual missions) tied to the different Taken War quest lines.

Also, the best 4 Strikes of the game.

Completing the main quest line + Taken War / Petra / Variks / Eris quest lines (some Patrol bounties and PvP challenges interspersed with actual missions) and all the new strikes is, in all, a denser, richer, longer, higher quality and more interesting package than the entirety of Vanilla Destiny.

And I know this is more an indictment of the game as it launched than anything else, but hear this:

I've been playing since day 1, and am not a casual player. Since TTK dropped I've played probably 7-8 hours a day, focusing on a single character (only unlocked new subclass on my alts, haven't touched them again).

I still haven't completed all the endgame quests, and I still haven't even touched the Raid, there's still some PvP modes I've yet to play (Zone Control, Mayhem Rumble), and I haven't even taken a look at Court of Oryx.

Cleaning out your Quests - even as a skilled player perfectly at ease with the mechanics, constantly informed of whatever strategies the community comes up with do do things more quickly, with serious overkill TTK preparation (I ranked my faction up 12 times to get new Legendaries), and an entire friends list of similar players to do the content with...I've put over 20 hours since Tuesday, on a single character, and still have a ton to do.

I know full well this game is not perfect. I myself am annoyed by it and there are a million valid criticisms of the game and its story. And value is subjective: this could be worth a dollar to someone else, whereas I'd have easily paid US$whatever for the fun I'm having with friends.

But as AAAs and their expansions go, this DLC and what it offers is certainly not a low bound outlier in terms of the amount of stuff to do it packs.

Where I'm doing it for example is on the Scourge of Winter, final checkpoint: Pop a SINGLE Coin of Three and then killing Draksis at the end. You snipe him 4 times, then lure him over to one side, rocket the floor right under him to kill both him and you and then repeat.

Each time you use a coin and kill an ultra, the buff is removed, but if it is unsuccessful, the next coin use has an increased chance of a drop to make up for it. This stacks up to a point. The second you grab an engram, the stack of drop chance increase resets.

I wouldn't risk the postmaster, just pick all the engrams up once you're done at the end. They stay on the floor between dying and respawning at the checkpoint.

Is anyone experiencing a glitch where any worms pore gathered is not showing up in inventory? I keep collecting on dreadnought and nothing :/ I tried turning off ps4 all day and still can't gather any help!!!

Tempted to delete the character I ran with early this year when I first tried Destiny and start all over again. I didn't get very far I believe so it would be nice to start from scratch.
I haven't deleted mine yet (when I'm at a similar level I'll see if I can use any equipment on him and just discard the rest at that point) but this is what I've done. Experience it all fresh on a new character, then use the item to take the next character straight to 25 when I'm ready for that.

I just bought an exotic helm engram a total of 6 times, and they gave me Helm of Saint Blah Blah 3 times in a row. Hahahaha, fuck you.

New player, what is the best way to farm glimmer?
In vanilla destiny it was the first Mars mission. You Pop a network key before opening the door and fight all of the imperial level cabal and the blow yourself up and start over. You can quickly farm a couple grand in glimmer but honestly I haven't felt the need to farm with TTK you just need to keep using your glimmer consumables

For future reference, something definitely isn't quite right with Destiny's RNG system when it comes to turning stuff in. Basically, if you are ever going to turn in a chunk of exotic engrams. wait 4-8 seconds between each turn in. Otherwise duplicates seem more likely to happen.

Omg I feel like a fool, I didn't even consider that SMH

Thank you for the common sense solution! I am serious!

It happens to the best of us. :p

Is it worth trying the vanguard heroic playlist with light level 246 (required is 260) or will I just fail and piss my team mates off?

Nah, you should be fine. Personally, I'd say anyone lower than 235 would be struggling big time.

Worse: you'll be matched with others at around that light level and leave pissed.

Continue the Quest lines / normal Strike playlist while always wearing your absolute highest Light gear in each slot to slowly push the quality of the blue engrams you'll get everywhere

If you're close to Marks cap, buy something like a 280 Ghost from the Vanguard.

Also, make sure you've purchased a 290 Exotic armor piece from Xur today :)

Oh I see what you're saying. And when you say engrams, this means any engrams (blue or purple) that drop from the Ultra, right? Don't loot those or else it will reset your drop rates?

I thought just the warlock arms from our are that high this week? The other two are legacy?

So I was thinking of blowing off the digital copy of Destiny that I had. I will pretty much be starting at square 1. I believe I bought the collectors edition on my PS4.

Anything I Should really do/know/need based on the expansion? I actually have the DLC as part of the initial purchase but never got near playing them.

You said the campaign is 4 hours, which is factually incorrect. You are of course welcome to your opinion to dislike it, but the Taken War is the second half of the campaign and extends well beyond 4 hours. It's just straight up untrue that the campaign is that short.

I look forward to being surprised (and wrong) then cause I finished the campaign as I saw it (got credits) and they haven't telegraphed more missions. None of the main characters seem to have missions for me. Where does it pick up?

Something weird I noticed maybe some of you have an idea, whenever I kill yellow health enemies and they die and have that glimmer burst I get nothing unless I consume like a wax idol for the hive, or the relevant buff for each, why can't i get the base glimmer amount without a buff anymore?

it continues on Venus at the Vault of Glass, you do need to talk to Ikora on the tower first though!

This coin farming is easily the greatest farm in destiny history. Crazy that it was overlooked during testing. Chances should reset after an exotic engram is dropped, instead of when you actually pick it up. I also feel like restricting it to strikes would solve that problem, unless you could abuse a full inventory+postmaster.

Is the Dreadnought fun to explore? How does it compare to other destinations?

Dreadnaught is way better than other patrols, except no Sparrow racing because no Sparrows.

There's a lot of stuff to actually do there, on top of what the other places have. You still have patrol missions, but there are like, other side activities involving various drops and The Court of Oryx where you summon bosses/minibosses to take down for loot.

It feels like a more fun version of the moon.

Not as many section, but the ones that are there are beautifully constructed and there is nice open spaces to traverse, as well as tons of hidden paths.

I've definitely had and done this patrol beacon. It's more generous since it knows you are on foot.

That sounds great, thanks.

Nice, thanks!

Just ordered my legendary edition.

I have the original version installed but would it be wise just to delete it?

I finished TTK quest story line last night, but I'm still only level 36. What should I be doing now? I never finished the HoW quest line, should I do that or is there no point?

I got a 280 DEF class item from redoing the House of Wolves story.

Also, look at your quests and figure out what you want to do. I recommend starting with the Taken War.

Is there now no way to raise the Queen's Wrath reputation? Whilst I've got most of the rewards from last year's event, I did have my eyes on the spaceship.

Do the Petra and/or Variks quest lines and eventually Petra will start offering you Wanted bounties again.

Edit: Have to complete TTK story first.
