still not bad. Cam Fowler is pretty solid. Still Hall or Seguin? Both are great.
I know. I mean, I can't believe I'm nitpicking about getting no worse than the third pick, but it's really all about Hall/Seguin. So the third pick would feel like just a little bit of a letdown.

Though, to be fair to the Kings, they finished only 2 points back of the Canucks in the regular season (103 vs. 101).
Exactly.

I think for there to be an "upset", there has to be a clear favourite. Some of you seem to be considering Vancouver as the favourite for whatever reason, but then suggesting that L.A. could "by far" be the upset. Got me confused. The two seem pretty evenly matched overall, especially with Vancouver hurting on the back-end right now.

I think it's going to be a long series.

Would've loved #1, but #2 — that's fucking great.

Lol yeah keep dreaming, getting a good player with the #2 pick?? Not gonna happen son.
It's all about #1, just look at Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk and many others.

To think that Toronto would have gotten either Hall or Seguin (and had their choice if the absence of Kessel had made a big enough difference) and still had their 1st round pick next year.

Instead, Boston is a playoff team AND will be adding one of two young superstars to their organization.

Obviously we all know this. I'm just twisting the knife. :D

Even though they're close in points, I think that having the #3 seed, Art Ross winner, and the edge in playoff experience would be enough to call Vancouver the favorite.

Don't get me wrong, I still think it still think it has the potential to be a long series, but I would definitely consider a Canucks loss an upset.

While it is true the Canucks' defense is a weak point for the team, I think you have to give the edge to the Canucks for goaltending and offense, and I'm thinking if Vancouver loses, most people will consider it an upset. Los Angeles is by no means a team just happy to make the playoffs, but this is their first shot with their young core; the Canucks time to win with the Sedins and Luongo would have to be about now.

I think it's going to be a long series.
Definitely agree with you there, and welcome back, btw.

Just watched the draft lottery and I have to say Double-B is a visionary. The draft has been solid since Ovechkin came in 2004 so this year is bound to be a bust.

Speaking of bust, I really want to smash Hall's fucking face. He looks like a total loser/punk who needs to have his ass kicked. He's gonna fold up like a cheap suit in Edmonton. The other dude Seguin will probably turn into a sold 25-30 point man and play on someone's 3rd line for years to come.

Kessel is better than both those dudes.

:lol

A #2 pick is just as good as a #1 pick in this draft.. Unless there's a dire need for a winger from either Boston or Edmonton. You've got 2 extremely awesome players there.

I might be overanalysing, but just as he was opening envelope #3... I swear he looked over to the GMs on the panel, waiting to see their reactions at the shock #3 was going to be.. It was just Florida, as projected, but I was almost expecting it to be the Oilers or something.

I'm feeling very sour right now, so I was prepared to get all nasty about how Manics just continually makes Leaf fans look dumb time and time again. But that post was so obviously meant to be a joke I nearly spit my water out. :lol I lost it at "20-30 point man."

Honestly, I hope the Leafs never make another trade with Boston ever again.

To his credit he said with a straight face "No we never projected the draft pick to be this high" :lol

No one expected the Leafs to be this bad, did they? I think when the trade was made, Chiarelli expected the pick to be top 10. Burke was the ass clown who thought we would make the playoffs.

Anyway, I love Burke, he's made lots of good moves/draft choices/signings, but this whole Seguin/Hall business is going to eat away at me for awhile.

The fuck you talking about? These two guys are not franchise players, they've put up good numbers in junior but so have many other stiffs in previous drafts. Until they have prove they can score 35+ goals at the NHL level, they won't touch Kessel. I'm predicting an Alexander Daigle out of one of the two of them.

You're both right. Canucks should be the favourites, if not only for their playoff experience. I guess I'm just pulling the same bullshit coaches do, trying to relieve pressure off my team, though I'm not sure what good a NeoGAF post would do.

And thanks, lord. Good to be back, though I really do get more shit done when not browsing GAF. I need some self-discipline, methinks

And thanks bish for the "pre-playoff lay off" haha

He let you back but not Acid, sharks fans are still sad. :p

I'm not sure what dude did, but my ban was by choice.

I also want Acid back. I mean.... it's the playoffs ... more Sharks fans, more tears, more laughs ;)

True, they haven't played any games in the NHL yet (so they're unproven prospects) but in the past couple of years top 2 picks have been pretty safe.

Okay, enough complaining out of me. Here are my picks for the playoffs.

Washington over Montreal in 5 games
Philadelphia over New Jersey in 7 games
Buffalo over Boston in 6 games
Pittsburgh over Ottawa in 6 games

San Jose over Colorado in 4 games
Chicago over Nashville in 6 games
Vancouver over Los Angeles in 7 games
Detroit over Phoenix in 7 games

I would love to watch a Washington vs. Chicago Stanley Cup final. I have a feeling it will be Washington vs. Vancouver in the end though. Coming off his gold medal I picture Luongo just going crazy in these playoffs.

Don't bother arguing with Manics his bitter tears are just clouding his judgment, Seguin and Hall are both going to be awesome players.

You turtle faster than a swede.

:lol at Manics. Whatever happens with Seguin and Hall, you had Kessel this year and couldn't make the playoffs, while the Bruins did make them. In fact you're probably the worst team in the entire league. Apart from room with the salary cap and an overrated unidimensional goal scorer, what the hell do you have to cheer about?:lol

I don't take separitists seriously. Go back to France dude.

I only "turtled" because he didn't acknowledge the fact that I essentially called him a joke character in my post. I still don't know if he's serious or not. I'm not good at the internet.

And besides, it was only half a turtle, wasn't it? :D

And speaking of Phaneuf, yes Foreign Jackass, there's plenty to cheer for in the next Leafs season. Yeesh, you're excessively hyperbolic when it comes to the Leafs woes. I won't say how good the Leafs will be next season but I am soooo freaking excited to watch them play again. Next year we're gonna get a full year of Kadri, Phaneuf, Komisarek, Bozak, and the Giggy/Gus tandem. I'm stoked for the off-season - Burke pulled the Phaneuf/Giguere trades out of thin air, and I can't wait to see what trades/signings he does.

We're bad, but there's plenty to be excited about IMO.

Burke isn't afraid to go out and get the players he wants. The guy has balls of fucking titanium. In the long run, thats going to work out in our favour.

With NHL calibre goaltending, we're in the playoffs next year. There's no reason we can't jump teams like the Habs, Flyers, Senators and Bruins with Giguere and Giggy providing even mediocre goalteding with this roster. If you add any UFA or trade improvements, climbing the East is going to be even easier.

Makes you wonder what good teams have to look forward to. Success has nothing on hopeful speculation.
The Canucks would be playing in Milwaukee right now if it wasn't for Burke and Nonis. Show some respect.

You're probably right, the East is that awful.

kaberle for a bag of pucks in the summer

#1 bitches.
Great success!

In a couple months, there's only going to be 1 winner (likely the Caps) and 29 losers. And, of those 29 losers, Edmonton is gonna be at the head of the pack with the 1st overall pick. Whoo!!
And then free agency is gonna start, we're not gonna be able to trade our dead weight and/or sign any good players, and then the season will start and we will suck again...thus leading to another 1st overall pick next year
Whoo!

Huge days for the city of Edmonton. In the sense that they're getting a player who's shackled to the city for at least the next 8 years.

I bet each guy is hoping and praying Edmonton takes the other.

Meh.

Gretzky and co. didn't mind Edmonton.
Lidstrom and Zetterberg don't mind Detroit.
If they win, they will come.
