Based on what you saw, is GT7 cross-gen?

Are you excited/disappointed it is PS5/crossgen?

I find some of the comments around Polyphony hilarious tbh. It's like Gran Turismo has only existed since 2017 rather than 1997. Sure Polyphony haven't exactly covered themselves in glory this gen and they definitely dropped the ball on PS3/4 transition by bringing GT6 too late (presumably because GT5 was late too). But is that the default setting for Polyphony? Not really, their normal is 2 numbered releases per generation, and usually a couple of extras too. Games that sell in the ball park of 10 million each.

So my question, I guess, is what have the been doing for the last 7 years apart from GT Sport? Have they been modelling tracks, cars, sounds, etc? Does this make it likely that GT7 will be both very large and soon?

Tbh I'm fairly bullish about this being launch window, what they showed looked spectacular and just lacking final polish. We don't know how old the build they showed is but if the content is there then I don't see why we couldn't see this in the next 6 months.

Apart from ray tracing, 4k, textures/materials and the environment it looked almost like a ps4 game.
GTS PS4!!!

I think it's just getting harder and harder for circuit racing games to make big jumps in graphics.

GTsport on the Pro looks almost real in some replays.

I'm disappointed. My best case scenario hope was that GT7 would have an UE5 like engine, since just-in-time asset streaming, VRS, and geometry culling would be a HUGE boon for racing titles. And who else could lead the way here if not Sony's own first party studio with a system seling flagship franchise.

"Fixing" LOD pop in will be a very significant improvement for racing games.

Hopefully Forza will show what's possible.

Yeah it is GTS with GT7 skin graphic wise. Because they probably couldn't make even 100 cars for next gen they probably just gave up and ported GTS and gave it GT7 skin

I really like that Turn10 CEO quote about "King died, long live the king" which was hilarious in GT5 era now became absolute truth and with Forza 8 people will get not only more content but it will kill graphically GT7 at release of Xbox while GT7 is probably year away

I hope they fire Kaz after this. Studio clearly needs someone interested in making games rather than being motorsport person.

You have no idea what are you talking about

Look at forza motorsport sales year after year keep plumetting down its a dying racing series

GT is a behemoth franchise on playstation and this game look magnificent

Even GT Sport the floppiest gt game still outsold forza 5, 6 and 7

Kaz Hirai IS Gran Turismo and theres nothing you can do to take him down from his position

Have a nice day

I like the idea of GT coming back to its roots with a mainline series, but I'm craving for a new arcade rally game like Motorstorm or street racer that isn't Need for Speed, a new Burnout would be crazy.

Honestly Horizon and Demon's Souls looked amazing but it's clear that GT is in early development judging by the ps 5 reveal video

Horizon CGI looked exactly like the CGI in the reveal of the original game as well.

just confess you didn't notice raytracing in GT7 and that PS4 can't do that and that we're in an era of diminishing returns where most gamers won't notice new features

A lot of what makes GT7 look a bit cheap or previous gen is how poorly trees, bushes, grass patches and side vegetation are integrated into the environment. Fundamentally they are a bit on the low side of polygons/geometric detail. But, the main issue is the way they get illuminated and how badly they, eg grass patches, blends with the ground they are on top. They simply look a bit out of place.

The positive:
• A new GT game.
• The LIGHTING, especially the camera exposure and tonemapping with HDR is going to be lit.
• The reflections are really impressive.
• This game will run stable 60fps and maybe even render at 120fps (60 per eye) for VR so maybe things will look a tad simpler by design.

What's not impressive in this trailer is:
• The low quality trees and bushes, come on at least stream in higher versions from the SSD when near to the camera, this is as close to on rails games as you'll get, it should be too hard, right?
• Grass patches are way to sparse and didn't always blend well with the ground.
• A lot of the side vegetation (probably bilbords), lighting wise, didn't look well integrated with the rest of the scene, felt like it's pasted on top of the scene.
• Spectators when seen close up looks a bit too plain. But TBH spectator quality is one of my least concerns, I rather have many at lower quality than a few high quality, even the vegetation is more important in my eyes.
• The mountain-rock, shapes, details, shaders felt a bit plain or simplistic. Maybe the the detailed rocks in the UE5 demo has spoiled me. It could also be the excessive motion blur destroying all the details. But it had a very Bump-mappy look.

Usually PP delivers best in class visual and technical achievements. What many consumers miss is that they not only manage to make incredibly good looking games, they do it at solid 60fps.

GT is king, it always has been, even when they dropped the ball with 6, GT was, is and probably always will be the best looking racing game. No matter how much people try to spin it. Case fucking closed.

I agree, it's interesting that almost no driving game comes close to the neurotic and pedantic attention to visual quality while still maintaining 60fps. The game is a master class in simulating a real world camera for exposure, HDR, tonemapping, super saturated halos etc. They even used a custom build of GT to show case Sony's experiment 10.000 nits prototype TV last CES 2019. The way the game recreates materials (on the cars) and real world illumination is top notch.

You can tell they are porting the GT Sport engine (why wouldn't they?). It will improve before release.
Still looks great to me.

I don't think GT7 will come out on PS4, I think Sony want PS4 owners to transition to PS5 and to do that you need gorgeous PS5 titles and GT7 is most likely one of them.

Yeah, that's what it looked like to me too. Like ND said with PS4 - bring the engine up on the new hardware see how it behaves, what works and what needs redoing etc. I wish they had showed dynamic weather as their 'wow' factor instead of RT and 4K but it is what it is. I'd be surprised if we saw this within 18 months though. PS5 will probably launch with GT:S taking advantage of the uptick in hardware and using the haptic trigger features etc (which an be reused in GT7). All those little extra's will essentialyl be beta tested in GT:S and absorbed into GT7. Also that time delta isn't a slap in the face to not supporting PS4, while the enhancements to GT:S make the PS5 a worthwhile upgrade.

Next, a version of Gran Turismo Sport that Sony had ported over to a PS5 devkit—a devkit that on quick glance looks a lot like the one Gizmodo reported on last week. (The company refused to comment on questions about how the devkit's form factor might compare to what's being considered for the consumer product.) Driving on the border between the track and the dirt, I could feel both surfaces. Doing the same thing on the same track using a DualShock 4 on a PS4, that sensation disappeared entirely. It wasn't that the old style rumble feedback paled in comparison, it was that there was no feedback at all. User tests found that rumble feedback was too tiring to use continuously, so the released version of GT Sport simply didn't use it.

Typical no argument response.
Watch the gameplay video or just play GTS first.

BTW GT7 was the most advanced in terms of graphics showed in the PS5 streaming.
No argument will change your mind. Now you are claiming it was the most advanced in terms of graphics from the stream... I think you need a new set of eyes

I don't understand what sales have to do with game quality and release date.
And no i hope they fire Kaz. He is sole reason why Polyphony got so outpaced by everyone, not just Forza devs but even Indie devs.

PCars2 at release had more tracks and more cars with very similar amazing graphics with developement time of 2-3 years. AN INDIE GAME NOT AAA STUDIO.

GTS has barely 150 cars while Forza 7 has 1000+ currently. Forza devs literally made FM5 FM6 and FM7 in time of ONE GT game on PS4 and that game is basically joke to franchize content wise.

And here people are hoping GT7 will release at launch. Like wtf are you smoking.
Kaz is head of PD and responible for management. He clearly fucked it up on multiple games already.

I am fan of GT. I spend literally 1000s of hours playing every game even shitty GTS. If you are true fan you need to see wrongs and address it.

You mean the same forza game that filled with microtransaction ?

And yes you can hope they fire Kaz

But they wont

Of course they won't. Because Kaz sits on board of Sony. Which is the reason why he can ride whole GT games into a ground and no one will say anything.

But when Evolution makes their first game near launch of PS4, kill GTS content wise (where GTS came YEARS LATER) and graphics wise but they fucked up a little about online they fire everyone.

So yes you can be safe in your fanboy rage that Kaz will be safe. He will, just GT games will be fucked.

How do you know GT7 is fucked?

Youre from the future?

Was I blown away? No.
Will it be a cross gen game? Hell No. It will be ps5 only.

I played multiple GT games but never for too long. They are, for a lack of a better word, kinda too dry of a racing game for me personally.

Here is what me as a fan of GT experienced:

GT5
- Released 4 years after console release
- 700 cars out of 1000 were literally PS2 models
- Half of the tracks from PS2

GT6 or GT5.5
- released just before PS4 relase
- they upgraded a bit 700 PS2 but they are still not "premium" and no cockpit
- they added only around 100 new premium cars
- they removed premium tag completely so when you buy car you don't even know if it has cockpit or not.
- they added like 6 new tracks
- they removed stuff like track creator which was actually great in GT5.

GTS:
- released
- Around 120 cars from which about 50 unique cars and rest variations of same car for each group
- No campaign
- Barely any tracks

Litearlly 10+ years of incompetence.

Sorry but you are living in dreams if you think they are in place they can compete even with independant developers content wise let alone with Forza.

If GT7 will have even 150 cars this will be huge achievement for it. And it will be miracle if they will release it in next 2-3 years.

I don't say it because i hate GT. It is just realistic expectation at this point for PD to fail compared to competition.

And since GT doesn't exist in vacum:

Forza 8 will be on release of Xbox or shortly after. IT will feature minimum 150 cars (forza 5 number) and those will be unique cars not 50 + variants of each. And it will look amazing since it is next gen game not port of FM7 with FM8 skin.

PCars3 also will release this year or next and it will have even more content than both but of GT quality.

I really fucking want GT7 to be competetive. To launch with PS5 and have at mimumum 200 cars and 20 cars with next gen graphics.

We already see GTS graphics with slight improvement and now we wait for final car and track number and release in few years.

In the trailer it says for next gen. So fortunately or unfortunately it is not coming to PS4.

This means they are going to loose million on sales but it also means the game is not coming anytime soon. The game is probably in pre-alpha stage and not before holiday 2021. I think it will release in 2022. Even at it current state you should be easily able to tell the difference. Once the game is done it will look amazing. These guys are good in gfx.

Maybe Sony should follow suit/Microsoft and also start to outsource GT cars to https://www.glassegg.com/portfolio/ ... like Microsoft/Turn10 have been doing for 10 years or even longer.

Without that outsource, all Turn10 get do is 150 cars (like in Forza 5).

And ? This was supposed to be some kind of diss on forza devs for doing that ? For managing their production well ?

Here is legendary "PD quality" people claimed in GT5-GT6 era when people still believed that bullcrap:
