Gt5 and GT6 are old news from Playstation 3 era
Move on were now at GT7 on Playstation 5
New hardware new tech and new everything
Be excited for once in your life for
These debate is tiresome and boring

GTS released years after release of PS4, had 120cars+ from which about 50-60 unique models with rest being variants of those for different groups. Oh and there was no campaign too.
This is this gen.
And trailer shown almost exact same graphics as GTS.
I really do wonder where people get their optimism for GT series at this point.

Here have some PCars 2 gameplay:

- looks just a little worse than GTS
- Has 200+ unique cars, compared to 50+ in GTS
- Has the most amount of tracks of all racing games this gen
- Was released month before GTS
- Cars actually sound good.
- Has long campaign
- full day night cycle and weather
- biggest grid of all racing games
- It is done by Kickstarter money via Indie dev.

At some point you really have to look in mirror and ask yourself this question:

"It is PD fault ? Or rest of the world, even indie studios can produce more content than PD that are wrong ?"

Im looking at youtube and internet reaction for GT7 in general and majority so far seems to like it/ having positive reaction

Maybe its just you

There was an interview before the reveal with Kaz talking about aiming for 120FPS or some shit like that, if this is the case color me impressed.

Edit: graphical features from the trailer that looked impressive to me are:
  1. the skybox with how the light and clouds look.
  2. The reflections in general and the fucking mirrors. The reflections on the helmet at one point looked like ray traced.
  3. Those mirrors didn't look as your typical low LOD mirrors.

Indifferent. I don't really play Gran Turismo. I tried to get into Forza Motorsport as well and maybe played it twice. Same with Horizon and Drive Club. I guess I'm just not a racing fan.

I sure used to be. Back in the Midnight Club days, or if you wanna go wayyyyy back. Top Gear was amazing.

Sure if you are fanboy of Gran Turismo and you don't play any other racing games other than GT then GT7 announcement is amazing thing. There is nothing wrong about being fanboy of one game.

The problem here is that i don't want GT7 to be this bad compared to rest. I want it to be BEST racing game of them all. I don't want GT7 to be shadow of itself compared to competition. I want GT7 to have trully next gen graphics not this GTS remaster, I want it to have 1000 cars, i want for it to have the most amount of cars, full weather, full damage model, full night and day.

Those are things i expect from THE BEST SELLING selling racing game with THE BEST BUDGET.

Unfortunutelly due to management in form of Kaz, they waste money, time and resources and create game that even indie games outpace them. Let me make myself clear, Gran Turismo issues are ALL due to management. If Forza devs can deliver 1000 cars and 40+ tracks then there is nothing stopping PD other than Kaz for doing exactly the same especially since they have bigger budget. And that would be just to be level with competition.

When i bought GT4 on PS2 this was the best racing game. Comparing any other racing game to it was joke, 700+ cars shitload of tracks, meaty campaign and amazing graphics.

Here years later PD can't even compete with kickstarted games. If it is not downfall then i don't know what is. What next ? Competing with games that are made by one developer and still lose that ?

With GT experience of working in this business, budget and renown for more than 20 years with GT7 they should be already breaking records like 1500-2000 cars with 100 tracks and more stuff.

No argument will change your mind. Now you are claiming it was the most advanced in terms of graphics from the stream... I think you need a new set of eyes
WTF are you talking?
Except for GT7 only R&C showed RT use and in way smaller scale.
No game showed in the stream pushed the graphic tech like GT7 did. You clearly see the advancement in that department in the trailer.

But you keep repeating something not true... I don't know maybe because it is a racing game where the art style didn't change from previous games you believe it looks similar but it is clearly a generation ahead.

The trailer is there to everybody see.

It's easy to get swept up in the hype, you may be so happy to finally see a new GT that you lose all critical thinking and lots of people lack knowledge and experience from other titles to compare with and make a proper judgement. I'll be honest that I wasn't floored by the GT7 reveal, I felt underwhelmed, only the RT reflections were truly impressive. The whole thing felt rushed and cobbled together to strengthen the PS5 reveal event by having another weighty name present. GT really should be a full launch title, it's been so long since they released a full GT experience, it's like they are just cruising by past achievement with some content updates since the release of Sport.

Nice trolling.

I don't understand what sales have to do with game quality and release date.
And no i hope they fire Kaz. He is sole reason why Polyphony got so outpaced by everyone, not just Forza devs but even Indie devs.

PCars2 at release had more tracks and more cars with very similar amazing graphics with developement time of 2-3 years. AN INDIE GAME NOT AAA STUDIO.

GTS has barely 150 cars while Forza 7 has 1000+ currently. Forza devs literally made FM5 FM6 and FM7 in time of ONE GT game on PS4 and that game is basically joke to franchize content wise.

And here people are hoping GT7 will release at launch. Like wtf are you smoking.
Kaz is head of PD and responible for management. He clearly fucked it up on multiple games already.

I am fan of GT. I spend literally 1000s of hours playing every game even shitty GTS. If you are true fan you need to see wrongs and address it.

I think the major problem is the workflow at PD.

I mean they laser scan the cars and tracks they model. Ok tracks and the scanning tech don't change that much these days, but the cars do, so they have to go and scan new models, so there's the travel and arranging things with manufacturers and doing the job.

Then it's all hand converted into the models we see in the game. It's a labour intensive job that was the reason the low def models were used on GT3 and why now a lot of stuff will look like GT Sport models until they get new scans or redo the old scan with higher poly models again.

That's not to defend them - other teams get adequate results just by analyzing photos and blueprints to models the cars, but PD have this obsession with accuracy.

I would certainly prefer PD get their games out at the rate of a couple per generation - they're just too slow now.

I think they should go to a 2 game cycle - the normal Gran Turismo "survey sims" can use lower poly/detail models based on non-laser data.

Then have a separate game stream that focuses on a smaller set of cars - can be racing series or a limited manufacturer selection - which are modeled to these crazy high standards. Trying to do such high detail modeling in a game with hundreds of cars is killing the turnaround time.

You seems to have crazy expectation to gt

Cant blame you

Everyone is different

Im not trying to get to serious with these racing game

im just here to have some little fun here and there

Not really that obssesed about having the perfect racing game

feel free if you want to complain about it but i cant help you on that

I would argue that the only thing they pushed, which is no small feat BTW is the RT reflections, but everything else but the cars looked dated. The environmental lighting and meshes weren't NG impressive.

The environment lighting was one of the most impressive changes... fully dynamic and way more real life than what you have in GTS.

It made me want to see it in HDR (maybe the video has HDR option but I don't have a TV to watch).

I think the design philosophy at Polyphony Digital is simply different than other studios. So you are correct in so far as "due to management in form of Kaz". These developers are meticulous to a fault. I wouldn't doubt if they spend countless hours making sure every stitch and fiber in a piece of fabric, one that 99% of players may never even look at it, is truly authentic. This isn't to discredit the effort and authenticity achieved by other games and studios you have mentioned. Polyphony Digital just takes it to an extra height.

Whether you think the end result is better or worse than the competition is up to you.

Maybe Sony should follow suit/Microsoft and also start to outsource GT cars to https://www.glassegg.com/portfolio/ ... like Microsoft/Turn10 have been doing for 10 years or even longer.

Without that outsource, all Turn10 get do is 150 cars (like in Forza 5).

YOINK!
r8NSwqF.gif

PD is outsourcing cars already. link

Yeah, that's what it looked like to me too. Like ND said with PS4 - bring the engine up on the new hardware see how it behaves, what works and what needs redoing etc. I wish they had showed dynamic weather as their 'wow' factor instead of RT and 4K but it is what it is. I'd be surprised if we saw this within 18 months though. PS5 will probably launch with GT:S taking advantage of the uptick in hardware and using the haptic trigger features etc (which an be reused in GT7). All those little extra's will essentialyl be beta tested in GT:S and absorbed into GT7. Also that time delta isn't a slap in the face to not supporting PS4, while the enhancements to GT:S make the PS5 a worthwhile upgrade.

I mean no dev creates a new engine and discards it after one game. Engines are time consuming and expensive to create, besides if you just use it once you dont know what it's capable of. Game engines usually last two gens. E.G. CALL OF DUTY went more than ten years without updating their engine, Horizon 2 will obviously use décima again as well as other games, Resident Evil as well, TLOU 2 modified version of theirs. All games and sequels do this, it's par the course.

Yeap it is like saying Guerillha will drop the Decima for next-gen.

They do improve the engines (a lot) but the base code is basically the same.

Same for UE4 to UE5.

Which is what we want. It's like hardware, the more you use it, the better acquainted you become and the more awesome games end up looking!!

Years before he claimed something else. Also, on their site ... there is no reference mentioning having worked on GT Sport. They someone worked with Nintendo for BOTW.

But if that were true, i would be even more pissed then. Lazy f#ckers :P

It made me want to see it in HDR (maybe the video is in HDR but I don't have a TV to watch).
So the their HDR implementation with tonemapping, real world light metrics and camera effects like motion blur and DOF ARE top notch, and the general lighting/exposure in the image look VERY good. But the environment, like the trees and shrubberies looks very dated. Grass patches and stones in shadows from a bunch of trees doesn't exhibit proper ambient occlusion to my eyes at least, the way bright green grass patches are placed on top of darker ground textures, it stick out like a sour thumb. IF this game will have dynamic time of day and weather as general solution on ALL stages it would make more sense to me the way it looks. But the realtime day and night cycle is not proven, I frame stepped the cloud and sun sequence and the camera is panning in such a way that it's not clear whether the sun is moving or not, the shadows from the trees certainly did not. Though the clouds did cast shadows on the landscape.

BTW I have a very good HDR TV and GT Sport looks fantastic on it.

I never said they did? The Call of Duty engine was updated numerous times lol. They update modules and components persistently. Whether its the collision system, renderer or physics model. Is UE5 still the Unreal engine or is it the UE5 engine?

This looks like the GTS engine with a new lighting implementation. It looks like certain other parts of the engine aren't as graceful in the transfer so will need updates, but the core parts have come across nicely enough. It looks like the first pass to me.

Like I've said the core parts are there and workable. We've got a new lighting system working which is good but there's obvious massive leaps to be made from that showing. If you'd be happy with that at launch I'd say your expectations are set well below what they should be.

(Not directed at you) but maybe some people should actually listen to people like Dontero Dontero as well. They clearly have the history and are an obvious fan of the franchise and genre. Some of the dismissive replies were awful. We're not era ffs.

Horizon looked miles better than any other game. GT looked like a cross gen game at its best.

Tht was my point. I see no disagreement here lol 😂 😂 You are preaching to the choir I don't know for what? Most of us are enthusiasts here by now thy should know these engines get modified and reused.

But I hear you big pimping. That GT7 presentation was promising and I could instantly see the ray tracing and lighting, shit I posted the video comparison. Games in development are just that and if ppl don't expect a big jump in GT idk what to say. They deliver graphically usually.

I believe some people have very low standards on visual experience nowadays. GT7 should be a WAY better looking game considering there is one generation leap of difference for its competitors, and it barely beat GTSports graphics wise. I mean, even it were a PS4 game to be released this year it should have significant - and obvious - improvements over GT Sports in that sense (which it doesn't). And, hell, for me GT Sports is not even the best looking racing game on PS4. Driveclub, a game from friggin 2014, stands out as the best looking racing game EVER to this day. I don't care about 60 FPS and I care even less about 4K - IMO, these features basically serves to one purpose: consume horse power that could be used to improve physics, put more elements on screen, make better water/rain effects, make better human models (YES, this is important in a racing game) etc.

No they are not. That was the excuse in GT5 GT6 era. They are just better than anyone else. They spend 1000 days on each cars folding steel over and over to get best katanas. And then you see PS2 models and even their premium models had Burrago prints under hoods of cars because wait for it. Most of the time they work with photos and small models instead of real cars.

I think the major problem is the workflow at PD.

Ah the "they laser scan everything". Sorry to break your expectation but every other racing developer does that now. Moreover PD does not use laser scan technology for cars themselves, they still do it by hand. You laser scan tracks not cars. Photogrametry is something else and PD does not use it.

The real reason why they are so much in the back compared to rest is that they are simply understaffed and management is fucking things up.

When GT6 was released they were still 100+ people. For GTS they upgraded to like 150-200 people. By comparison Forza devs are at 400 just devs working in studio, there are tons of other people working on moddeling in other companies who work for them and they have Playground devs to help them and share technology. The real MVPs are PCars devs. They were literally begging for money on kickstarter so i doubt they are above 100 people and they still made much more content than PD and their content is even better detailed than what PD did. Hell even Evolution, Sony own studio did better job content wise and they were like 100 people at the time.

There just no excuses any longer. The most of excused run out when competition caught up to them in GT5 era and since then all excuses look weaker and weaker every new release. IT wasn't that long ago when on this very board me and few other people were fanboing for GT claiming that GT5 has better car sounds than Forza but in order to get right those sounds you had to use 7.1 PCM and set setting to theatre mode and even if it didn't sound good it was still better than "fake" forza sounds who overdeliver on how cars sound. Yes that is how weak excused and fanboying looks like. IT was pretty pathetic back then and it is still pathetic now that people defend PD.

I mean GT5 had its fair share of issues but at least it brought up a lot new innovative things like time of day and weather, track maker and physics engine had huge jump into actual simulation. But here GTS doesn't even have real time of day let alone weather... 10+ years after GT5.

I still remember when Kaz was asked why cars sounds so bad and he literally couldn't answer it, after a while he just said that simulating sounds of cars is getting harder and harder and it is something they have to improve for next game (GT6). Simulating sound, yes this is what he said. They never recorded any sounds they just used simulated sounds for cars at the time when everyone else was recording sample of real cars and use those.

I know 1 thing. Driveclub looked way more impressive in its time. GT is not a graphic king anymore, Polyphony have different priorities now. GT7 had zero wow effect. Still gonna buy it for B spec.

This is a weird standpoint. Most of your argument has been postured by current competition. How did Gran Turismo's competition look back in the PS2 era?

I get your frustration. Maybe Polyphony Digitals time has simply passed because they have decided to rest on their laurels. Maybe the developers that were originally there in their time of greatness have moved on or retired. Maybe the methodology for designing simulation racing games has truly changed for the better and they haven't adopted all elements of said methodology.

The greats are always surpassed at some point. That is why you have to enjoy the greats in their time and respect them when their time has come and gone.

With that said, I hope GT7 is truly remarkable.

Graphics arent everything

I have tried driveclub and forza horizon and even if driveclub have better graphics the car in forza horizon are much more fun to drive

The car in driveclub felt clunky and too rigid

Imagine saying this if you are fan of GT series.

I really doubt it is because people at PD as in actual developers who work on game. Everything can be directly tied to Kaz himself. Like case of focusing on Vision GT which wasted 15 cars on some concepts when game derly needed more real cars.

GT is basically Kaz excuse to do something else. With GT he can go to SEMA shows and run his stupid contests to get some car into GT as be in spotlight or go to Goodwood.

It is true that this obssesion of yours about graphics are getting anoying and irritating to me

If you really obsessed about it then you should be gaming on PC

PS5 hardware already obsolete by now

Theres already pc graphic cards with over 20 tf in progress

Absolutely disappointed, Gran Turismo used to be a benchmark for graphic on Sony systems, and this GT7 is far from it. It looked a lot cross gen honestly and I don't blame poliphony if they wanna deliver on PS4 too using the strong installed base PS4 has, especially regarding geometry, I haven't seen any extensive use of quality assets geometry, and not just on GT7 but overall

Some assets are still from GTS, but that's work in progress. I see no next gen game with Raytraced lighting and reflections and that cloud cover though...…..If you have, let us know...

Gran Turismo Sport seemed like a (more expansive) Prologue-style tide over. Assets in sport were made with GT7 in mind, I believe. With GT7, they could push out the LoD, do better lighting and weather and some ray traced reflections and up the resolution.

Trackside details were also upped, such as the trees being 3D now.

With that said, I was a little disappointed with some pop in and noticeable dithering on the shadows on the dashboard during the actual gameplay.
