Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Was hoping to play a bit after a long ass day at work but nope. File didn't auto download and my Vita battery sucks now and was dead at work.

Hmm, I thought they were nerfing Shotguns by 10% in PVE, now I see 45% ? Is that for real ?

Final patch notes have a lot of changes from the preliminary ones they posted a month ago. 45% is real :-( I guess they noticed no one used Fusion Rifles in strikes anymore.

all that for only an extra $20? its a steal!

seriously though, i want that Hammer dance. but im not paying $20 for it. the other dances suck though.

The shotgun thing is live now right? Not next week?

Because I just did the prime strike with my shiny new level 8 hunter and the shotgun is fucking junk. They should have just made them super short range or something.

I don't like north bot. He sounds too wimpy, like someone pretending to be a passive nerdy kinda stereotype.

Not sure if it's been answered yet but is there a way to convert old armor materials (plasteel plating, etc) into the new, all encompassing materials?

A few thoughts after rebooting my Warlock, after a few missions.

-NorthGhost takes getting used to, but I like him. It's a much more consistent performance, with a more clear personality. Right now I'm instinctively comparing him to Dinklebot - I want to hear him in new missions where I don't have the comparison running. I do wonder why they didn't take the opportunity to re-write some of the lines, even around the edges.

-It's remarkable what having a small paragraph of context do for missions. Having them come from quest givers helps give them a touch of personality (utterly lacking to date), and it feels like the missions are actually, loosely, related to one another. Missions 3 and 4 are scouting exercised, investigating Fallen troop movements. Those lead to the discover of the Hive, and the Warmind, which have forked into two quest lines. Raising the array actually makes sense to do after the Warmind mission, with the new intro. Small stuff, but it helps.

-The new music is really great. I've sat for 10 minutes listening to new title and orbit tracks. :lol

-UI continues to get polished, somehow. Those new subclass screens.

-I'm level 6 and sitting on five bounties and six quests. It's almost too much. In some ways it reminds me of Skyrim's early going, when you're bombarded with tasks large and small (mostly small) from every other person you talk to.

So far this is a much more engaging romp than I recall from my last early play through. Certainly there's a feeling of there being much more to do, and of more constant forward progress.

There will be on the 15th. Hang onto them.

I'm a bit peeved that my PS4 didn't start downloading my update until I attempted to start up the game when got home. So, it seems like I won't be able see any of the new stuff until tomorrow...hopefully.

Did they change anything about weapon parts? The amount it takes to max a weapon is ridiculous compared to how many it gives.

If your download is going super slow do the pause trick and itll at least make sure you can play tomorrow

Hey DestinyGAF, I was a huge fan of this game until the entire fiasco. I thought that the $40 wouldn't be worth it for The Taken King. Seeing this, I completely wiped my characters and swore that I would never play this game again (I live with no regrets, but that may have been a lapse of judgement). Now I'm asking you all if you think that The Taken King is worth the return and repurchase of Destiny with the grinding (mind you my 2 guardians had about 100+ hours of grinding).

If yes, should I buy a brand new copy of the game or should I buy a used game (already have the 2 expansion packs) and then buy The Taken King?

If no, thanks for reading! Have fun gaming!

Thanks for the pause the download tip, helped a lot.

Got to play some and I really like pretty much every change that I saw. Just being able to track and turn in bounties without having to go back to the Tower was a joy. The new sparrow patrol mission they added as well as the new music was a nice surprise too.

Looking forward to the expansion now... Hopefully I can finish up Metal Gear by then :X

100 hours.. psh!

No one really knows since TTK isnt actually out yet. If you do decide to reenter however, your best bet is to buy the TTK Legendary edition which comes with all released Destiny content for $60 (well except for the Red Bull mission i suppose)

The main reason I keep playing is because it seems to be one of the few games with lasting power amongst my friends. Also Bungie seems to be making steps in the right direction, or at least getting dragged there kicking and screaming.

Man, did they tweak the gunplay, hit animation and everything? Went to patrol Mars and firing off a scout rifle and the Cabal are reacting to every hit and gunplay just feels...faster. Noticed a new patrol mission too.

Loving the new coat of paint though. Orbit music and the new menu are sublime. I like how Ikora has new quests for me to teach me about by Voidwalker and Sunsinger class.....lol

Did I miss something but is the Gunsmith supposed to have something new going on? Still the same for me and I did get a package at the postmaster to take to him but it disappeared out of my inventory before I could do anything...?

That starts up tomorrow. You'll be able to field test experimental weapons to earn rep. Will be the first place we can try TTK weapons before launch, I think.

Got the moon on my new Warlock. A little deal added to the map - locations you have not unlocked are now visible, just greyed out. I wonder if TTK missions and strikes will be visible on the 15th.

Why would anyone want to skip a cutscene now that we can listen to the sexy voice of Nolan North!

I haven't seen bungie mention anything about this yet, but what is gonna happen to old raid gear/weapons? The whole etheric light stuff was awesome as it made running Vog relevant again.

If year one legendaries will not be able to be upgraded, what is the point of running Vog or CE anymore?

It's less grinding and more doing quests till you hit 40, I can't speak for end game though

Ah ok. I think my package was the SUROS kit for purchasing TTK but the new weapons aren't available till next week.

Really love the new Director too. Tons of new details overall though I keep noticing like adding some extra sound FX when your ships enter and leave hyperspace.

I was surprised to see a Nightfall and Weekly though given I thought there weren't going to be doing that this week? Is the Nightfall the new retweaked versions, IE no longer go to orbit if you wipe etc?

:EDIT: Nolanbot had some new dialogue when I patrolled Mars it seems.

I noticed new lines on Earth as well. He had a line about Fallen snipers camping the patrol beacons. :lol

Cool! Lines I heard were him questioning and picturing humanity before the Traveler came and this was just when I landed to patrol Mars.

So are Patrols going to have difficulty settings? I noticed there's now one setting, but I imagine they wouldn't surface that unless there was going to be a choice.

Only thing I hate is having my experience bar on screen at all times. I also don't like that the Monte Carlo extra ammo perk doesn't work.

Yep. When I did patrols, he'd suggest areas I might want to go to. Dinklage never did.

They need to add transparency options to the HUD in general especially for plasma owners. The image burn is real.

I started the download like two hours ago and after a lot of frustration, I had to hard code my DNS and hard code my MTU to 1473 to even get a stable connection to the destiny server through PSN. I'm only 15% in with an ongoing 3 hour estimated time. With auto settings, I kept getting disconnected and the download time kept incrementing without actually downloading anything. :/

So class specific armour mats are dead now? I can just turn them in for rep? Also are motes dead or just waiting for the expac to launch in full?

Invective is still awesome. But matador was trash for me today in PVE.

The point in doing them is the same its been for a year: it's fun. In an interview, lead designer said they wanna keep the game compatible with real life, cutting down the weekly "to do list" of endgame loot awarding activities. VoG and CE are still there cause you can have a blast doing them with friends but you don't have to worry about falling behind if you don't do them every week.

On the flip side, if there's an overwhelming last if things to do in a given week most people won't really try to do it all, whereas if there's just a lot of stuff but somewhat manageable people will try to do everything and you have you're weekly to do list.

I'm not really sure if I agree with their reasoning, but the end result is good. Would be silly if you could do VoG every year to get the best gear. Got to give new content a chance to shine. Though VoG is definitely still fun.

That's a really good looking OP Zoba. If you need the source file for the banners instead of the png just let me know.

My download finished kind of late so I only had time to go to the Tower, but I'm liking the impressions I'm reading. Can't wait to dig in later today.

Also, welcome all potential new DGAF peeps! :)

That makes sense, in that they are still fun.

But the etheric light made them relevant up until now. Not as something that needed to be done every week, but as a cool aesthetic. For instance I was able to use etheric light on my warlock Vog helmet, because I liked the way it looked. Also made weapons like Fate and Confluence relevant.

It just seems silly to me. Having two out of three raids useless outside of just playing for kicks.

So, I had a few main missions in my abandoned quest terminal. I went to go Replay them to clear them from my quest log and now I am getting all of the ones they lead into again, and dropping them just pits them into the abandoned quest terminal. As it is I am going to have to replay pretty much the entire game in order to clear out these missions. Is this consistent for everyone, or did I hit some random quest completion bug?

Mine is doing the same thing. I also have an active Hunter quest to "reach level 30." My character is level 34...

Download got stuck at 8.6gb yesterday, so I left it on overnight.

Really looking forward to playing some 2.0 tonight!

I had a level 30 character on my old PSN account (thanks Sony for not having region transfers grrr) so I will need to have a character that's auto leveled. Is that with the 2.0 update or the TK expansion?
