Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Anyone know if this is new, just beat the game on Xbox one (story mission wise)

Got the legendary strangers rifle, turned in a blue engram and got a legendary helm that will increase health when I pick up orbs?

Edit: sorry, don't know how to resize images on imugr mobile

fuck...is that an Ultron helm?

-It's remarkable what having a small paragraph of context do for missions. Having them come from quest givers helps give them a touch of personality (utterly lacking to date), and it feels like the missions are actually, loosely, related to one another. Missions 3 and 4 are scouting exercised, investigating Fallen troop movements. Those lead to the discover of the Hive, and the Warmind, which have forked into two quest lines. Raising the array actually makes sense to do after the Warmind mission, with the new intro. Small stuff, but it helps. .

Can you elaborate on this? Where can you find the new paragraph of information? Is it whenever you select a story mission?

I thought they had discontinued the "Radiant Light" XP buff from doing the Nightfall. I still got it this week though. What gives?

What's their explanation for reducing the XP and reputation gains from bounties?

Why are there only 2 difficulty settings for all the story missions?

Will the Ritual of Sacrifice mission finally be replayable? How about the intro mission?

Running the story missions as a new character (I think you can do them again as an older character as well, pick up the quest from a kiosk in the Vanguard room) you start each by going and talking to a member of the Vanguard, rather than just using the map. They act as quest givers. When you do, there's a screen with a couple paragraphs of text from them - not voice acted, just written - talking about what the mission is, and what it's for. So two early missions are handed out together by Zavala, to investigate Fallen troop movements. On one we find the Hive, and learn they were trying to lock them down. The other, they were searching for Rasputin. Those both open up new quest lines, one to find out what he Hive are doing on Earth, the other to find out more about Rasputin.

The mission where we raise the array is now framed as searching for some missing Dead Oribit members who went to use the array to search for other warminds; we're sent out to find them and find out more about Rasputin. After the mission, we're told he shut down the array after we raised it, but not before it made contact with other colonies. That's when the moon mission opens up.

Again, all just flavor text before and after missions, but it's made the story so far make a lot more sense than the shipping game did. It's clearly tacked on after, as there's no real story progression during the missions, but it's like a bit of glue dropped in between each to help tie them together.

I just did the World's Grave mission. After getting back to the tower, Eris joins the fray; I talk to her and she has a line about the Speaker being a fool who worships the corpse of his dead god (she doesn't mince words, oof). The real threat is Crota - and she sends me to the Sword of Crota mission. It looks like that branches into the Dark Below quest line, so it now starts at level 10, way earlier in the campaign.

Apparently it is discontinued as of next week, not this week.

What's their explanation for reducing the XP and reputation gains from bounties?
They re-balanced XP gains across activities. They also added an XP bonus perk to some of the class items.

Why are there only 2 difficulty settings for all the story missions?
Yeah, that's disappointing. I wanted to run them on 'heroic' mode again.

so if I want the emotes and everything, and I already had the destiny CE, it's $40 for TTK and $20 for the emotes?

I'm resigned to handing over my money, just want to make sure I have it right.

I've been waiting for the update to download for over 2 hours and I'm only a 1/4 done.

Some of us get shafted when it comes down to XBL Downloads..

As I posted in the other thread: Mine zipped up to 56% very quickly, but then just slowed to a crawl..

I've reset the XO, my router, my modem several times, nothing seemed to help..

In the XO Settings->Network->Bandwidth Usage it does show your current download rate, mine was ~600kbits..

Doing a quick speed test on my connection:

Everytime I reset things, I might get spikes of 50Mbit/s then it drops after a short while to next to nothing again..

This morning, I reset everything again, so far it's moved 5% in 10 mins and was around 35mbit/s, so I'll see if that holds up.. if not I'll be spending another 24 hours to download the rest..

[edit] I have to say as an 'old' gamer, I'm pretty excited to get my hands on 2.0.. I had an armor core in the bank which should have let me get one of my characters to 34 this week, but not sure what'll happen to that now..

Everyone with download issues, use Google DNS. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. MTU 1473. Downloaded mine in just under 2 hours last night.

Can't wait for TTK. Looks great.

i am using these settings and I error'd out at 70%. PS3 you have to restart the download from the beginning if you error out. So frustrating. :(

Does this mean destiny has a good single player experience now or shouldnt k get my hopes up.

I mean... Destiny will 'never' have a good single player experience. Since it's made to be played over and over with other players. In fact by playing solo your locking yourself out of most content in the game.

So they made the Playstation exclusive strike and map available to all users now, but now again there is a strike and map only available to Playstation? I mean come on. I get there are exclusivity deals in place, but one year for strikes and maps is a bit much. It's probably not so bad now since there is more content, but for the base game at launch, not having an additional strike was really limiting for Xbox users no?

Either way, can't wait to jump into Destiny. For a year I've seen a lot of people just grind daily, put in several hundreds of hours of game play. Finally I'll get to see and decide for myself if Destiny really was worth leaving Halo behind.
Mutually exclusive...?

No. This isn't the game if that's what you're looking for. This is fps diablo with a bunch of cynical 'investment' mechanics to keep players hooked until the next dribble of dlc comes along.

It has rock solid gunplay in pve or pvp, but whether you enjoy the group activities in pve (or pvp in general) is another matter. Destiny is best played with friends in either case.

Yeah this by the far the most fun I have had playing co-op in long time(maybe tied with Borderlands 1 and 2). I do enjoy playing by myself too though.

Question:

I stopped getting rewards form Public Events (mailbox stuff) after the first one, and neither the Speaker nor Cryptarch will sell me anything. Is there anything wrong?

Bought Destiny at launch and traded it in after finishing the main story missions after 10ish hours. Really considering jumping back in again.

Anyone know if the all of the legendary weapons and armor vendors have sold in the last year will still be available to buy? Or will they drop randomly?

Also, how about the cool cosmetic stuff The Speaker sold? It's gone. Will that stuff be random loot too?

Edit: Also, I'm looking at exotic blueprints... have some from year one been wiped or are they all there?

This patch has the new Subclass right? (might play some of the new warlock class)

The new subclass can only be unlocked by a taken king content mission which we don't have access to yet.

So you'll need to wait till the 15th.

You only get public event rewards for the first event per day.

Any news on matchmakimg for the raids? can't find really find any news on it.

No, and there never will be.

The auto level up to I believe 25 is in this patch or just unlocked when TTK comes out?

That comes with TTK.

all that for only an extra $20? its a steal!

seriously though, i want that Hammer dance. but im not paying $20 for it. the other dances suck though.

Yeah, hammerdance is great. And the warlockshader might be one of the best in the game.

No, new subclass will unlock with TTK

Year one Weapons/Armor: Don't know actually. Maybe they will drop in the Vanguard Legacy playlist.

Cosmetic stuff: I believe this has moved to Eva Levante (guardian outfitter); didnt check it for myself

Is the MC Hammer dance race or class specific? I need it lol.

Class specific. Same for the shader that you get in that package.
