Doom: The Dark Ages |OT| Mod City

The same could be said of most current games.

I think it looks fantastic, but so did 2016 and Eternal. More of a credit to ID tech rather than a negative IMO.

Its still one of the best looking games out right now and the full RT isn't even implemented yet.

"Abysmal" is a bit hyperbolic.
True.

Whilst I enjoyed the game, TDA looks quite washed out and blurry on my system despite running maxed out at 4K. The former is probably due to artistic direction which is intentionally giving grey-blacks instead of black blacks. I cannot seem to 'fix' the inherent blurriness present in the game however. May also be the awful HDR implementation which is hampering the visuals (unlike Eternal which really 'pops' in HDR on an OLED).

Doom 2016 and Eternal both appear to have better IQ at 4K.

Just finished it. Its a great game that on balance while not as good as Eternal is at least in my opinion on par with 2016. The combat started off slow but towards the end once you have upgraded everything, it's probably the aspect of the game that is at least as good as the previous entries. Where I have a problem is the with the level design, which when it sticks to a more linear design is as good as anything done before but the open battlefield areas are poor. I wouldn't have minded 1 or 2 but there are several of these areas. Its feels like I am playing Serious Sam with Painkillers' art style.

Ooof. This game goes on and on. Just finished chapter 20. Maybe beginning to outstay its welcome now, so looking forward to wrapping it up.

To be honest, the open map levels are all a bit samey.

And it just dawned on me that the enemy don't fight each other like they have done in all other dooms. What kind of nonsense is this? 😂

I have enjoyed it though, much more than I ever thought I would after seeing the reveal trailers. Probably on par with 2016 for me, and maybe slightly better than eternal.

Spent around 3 hours clearing chapter 14 :The Spire of Nerathul today. 30 hours total playtime so far, on Ultra Violence. Its generally not too tough, but you run into combinations of demons that need a new approach. I got stuck on the ruby that is past a locked chamber with a revenant and an agaddon hunter for an hour or so lmao. You can skip it, as well as a lot of other encounters. I wonder how many did that and just followed the main quest to finish the game in 15-20 hours. Im looking at 50 hours on UV including secrets and all encounters. Maybe a good idea to start on easy and move up the ladder because a lot of the time has been spent just learning skills and weapons.

Pretty deep into the game now. It's a fun time. Certainly worth adding to the collection, which I'll do on Steam when it goes on sale. Little too much sass from Hugo to get full price out of me. Least favorite of the modern trilogy, but easy better than most other SP FPS games on the market. Much better than the last Doom 3. I could see it getting into my Top 5 for the year with ease, maybe even number 1 from a big publisher.

Ultra-Violence is kickin my ass. Anyone else playing on UV and struggling?
I started struggling when they upped difficulty without giving any notice.

Trick is to not give a dime. Stay on top till you get rid of the pesky ones. Ones that is done, you can focus on big one.

You have to get parries right. Else be prepared to restart the fight.

You say the pesky ones but don't they spawn all the time until you finish the big ones?
But yeah, i could definitely improve my parries.

Pesky ones for me would be those snake ones, cocodemon, pinky rider, that brain thingy with a gun etc. Revenant too.

Unless you take these out, they will keep attacking while you deal with the main one.

The ones that spawn all the time, they don't do much. Mostly there for you to recharge health and armour.

Game becomes somewhat trivial once you've unlocked *that* stake gun ability on parry.

I was real negative on this game a couple of days ago, but after pushing through a couple of boring levels it picks back up. Introduces some new enemies and weapons. The story gets pretty cool at the end. Overall I ended up liking it. I'm glad I didn't drop it. Now I'm going back through Doom 2016.
