This is one of the better meta's we've had in terms of comp diversity, it feels like.

edit: Apparently there's a Blizz summit for heroes in LA on Tuesday: https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/4hd010/secret_heroes_la_meeting/

Grubby is also going - he was streaming Warcraft 3 which I watched out of morbid curiosity, and said he wouldn't be streaming the next few days as he was going somewhere but couldn't reveal where yet.

Edit: that's a long list of people going. Basically any streamer who gets over 1000 views plus every caster, and someone from most big teams. They aren't going to do that just for a new map, so I can only presume it's something big. Maybe even the Heroes 2.0 we've speculated on (or maybe a move to salaried players like Riot does?

I found Cho'gall to be one of the Heroes who Tracer really struggles against actually. She lacks giant killer so it takes a year to kill him, and Gall can just ping her with the shadow flame ability constantly which whittles her down really fast.

They are letting them know that the gaem is ded and the doors are shuttering, man.

Really, though...sounds like season 1 is coming. Same thing they did before Hearthstone implemented Standard and Wild. Maybe they'll even give us some more deckslots in HOTS!

The same against any good 2-man queue. Cry and lose.

I don't particularly agree with Ketch on the strength of Cho'Gall in QM (I've got a 60% winrate against them and generally the two people on them are disparate in MMR which causes problems with positioning/targeting), but also rarely see any 2 man have any real impact on games either unless the RNG comp just lines up well with what they've chosen, or, in those rare cases like when Rehgar and Li-Ming were both OpieOP they are running those heroes together.

Edit - don't know how I missed the upcoming LA event thingy was already mentioned above. That's what little sleep does to me apparently.

I'm not even sure what I want for an announcement. Maybe an aprox release date on Arena mode?

Season 1/grandmaster, my man. The only answer, because it's the main thing that (if done correctly) will drive interest in the game from other moba players and our own high mmr/pro players.

I'm with you on Arena, though. Excited for that, whenever it comes. I don't expect them to say it's ready til Blizzcon, though.

MMR reset would be nice for some people and kind of fun in a Wild West way, but the way they've talked about it previously it seems unlikely. Then again, perhaps they're having everyone out cause they are going for the home run instead of the base hit.

I'd be okay with a reset. I don't follow mine too closely or anything, but I did have a pretty nasty losing streak while I was teaching my wife to play. Not that I really cared because it's fun playing together, so whatever they do is fine. She's my trusty support buddy now and is better than most of the people we get matched with.

They were talking about hero-specific MMR at one point, at Blizzcon I think, weren't they? If they were anywhere near ready on that, that might be a good opportunity to do an MMR reset at the same time. It might even be necessary, depending on how it's set up.

It was almost as good as this one:

Shocking interview with a HOTS developer (during the Stitches OpieOP time frame, including a few comments that are still relevant over a year later)

I don't even know how you could do hero specific MMR. It takes the game 50-150 games to even really narrow down it's confidence in your own MMR....considering with a stimpack you can get a hero to 10 in ~50ish games, it'd be pretty damn hard to find someone's MMR with a specific hero considering how infrequently people play most of the heroes.

I mean...I've played well over 3000 games of HOTS since May of 2014, but I only have probably 6 or 7 heroes that I've played near 150 games total on and that's with me adding in totals from my smurf accounts. If we're just talking my main account, I only have 4 heroes over 100 games.

What makes sense is a soft mmr reset that takes previous mmr into account and a more transparent ranking system (destroy old 1-50 ranking)

They'd kinda have to do it with your old MMR in mind or the experience would be even more brutal for the majority of players (who are in bronze/silver/gold) as the higher skill players shit on them game after game on the climb up the ladder. If you were a high diamond or master player, it'd be like shooting fish in a barrel for the first 5 or 10 games til your MMR separated itself from the pack.

I've played a fresh account a few times (Milly has with me as well), and it's just roflstomp for about 7-8 games before you ever see someone near your skill level. Fun for the stomper and whoever got lucky enough to get carried with them, awful for the other team. It's basically one of the few times you can carry in this game.

Well, we know the ranking system is going. It was copied from Hearthstone, hasn't worked at all, and is being replaced by leagues like in starcraft and LoL

Btw, by transparent i dont mean the releasing of elo numbers but a more accurate tier system based on elo range, like in this kind of system mid-gold should not be encounterin low-plat, etc. the matchmaking should be accurate enough so the tiers are meaningful

Though I will be excited for new heroes if that's what this announcement is, I would still be disappointed. They have got to get ranked/seasons off the ground and soon. I would also not mind a rank reset of some sort (I don't know the right answer) because I lost a lot of games when I first started playing and my MMR is crap on my main account. I got way higher MMR on a smurf account before I stopped playing it because what's the point. My financial/time investment on my main account is so much that it is depressing that it works like this.

Also Jake doing a reddit AMA. Go nail him with biting questions, Ketch.

Dear Jake,

Is it true that everybody quit your show because it sucked?

those are good changes to tracer. would like to see maybe spatial echo reduced to 1 blink instead of 2, or put the two recall talents at the same tier. but the raw number changes are fine and the other talent changes are decent.

24 seconds with the talent is a good nerf, 26 without it is whatever. I liked the Melee talent at 1 already anyway, and I was already using locked and loaded.

Balancing recall might take awhile, Here's some dota patch notes that are kind of relevant and kind of funny:

6.75
Vacuum
Increased cooldown from 16 to 19.

6.76
Increased Vacuum cooldown from 19 to 22.

6.78
Increased Vacuum cooldown from 22 to 24

6.79
Increased Vacuum cooldown from 24 to 28.

6.82
Vacuum cooldown rescaled from 28.0 seconds to 28 seconds.

The last one was a joke in the patchnotes.

Pretty even handed approach from Blizzard on Tracer. I dig it.

Still ridiculously fun to play two weeks later.

EDIT: Speaking of Jake's show...any word on State of the Nexus getting up on iTunes? No way that shit isn't approved by now if they really tried. Also, their schedules = RIP that show for a lot of weeks. That and iTunes are the only things preventing them from dominating the jak egg.

they should increase rexxar flare range now since leash is so much longer, flare is like not even as far as leash range now.

also, rexxar is 110% a specialist. Now even more then he was before. Literally pushing down buildings from out of vision. they should make his talents that do extra to minions and mercs also affect monsters like sylvanas's talents do.

That Cloud9 thread on Reddit is interesting. I knew that they didn't play as much as other folk, but didn't realize that Arthelon seemed to be spending more of his time playing league of legends than hits nowadays.

You really can't be an esport player and play another moba at the same time. Not only will it fuck up your muscle memory, but that's hours of time that could be spent on practicing being spent on another game. Liquidcris said recently he doesn't play any other online game because he needs to practice HotS.

Wouldn't surprise me if Arthelon retired and the team fell apart at this rate. They don't seem to have any fire for the game anymore.

We all called that when it happned, Kir.

Arth is good, but he's no Fan. And if really is disinterested in the game, then WTF is C9 doing? Is the org just completely okay with how this has been going? I know it's just qualifiers they've been losing lately, but they've been pretty junk since China.

Alur

Haha, I did see Familie in there saying "it's just qualifiers, though". At least you're consistent.

Even if they really do give zero fucks because they are guaranteed to qualify, that's still pretty concerning IMO after what we saw in Korea. Where's the competitive fire and desire to dominate? If you can't even dominate NA in a tournament with small stakes how can you expect to get up to compete with the Korean demigods? Sure as hell isn't helping the Cloud 9 brand either.

ctrl+alt+f won't show FPS for me anymore. Just CPU/GPU stuff.

Does it not work? Or is something wrong on my end?

Rexxar's better, that leash range is nice, but at best he's still a mis-categorised Specialist. He feels like a non-shit Gazlowe because Misha can tank in teamfights even if you go the siege damage build whereas non-wombo-combo Gaz is just sort of useless if your team doesn't have map control.

When did they change the torch interaction so it no longer reveals creep tumors? That's super annoying.

PM sent.

Yep. Only difference between the two was the attitudes. Arth has always been pegged as the negative chemistry guy. So1dier's profile was a lot higher in the SMG days until he got forced into tanking. I don't think he's retired, either, based on what he said on stream. IIRC he said Zoia said that, not him.

It's probably a toss up right now on which one C9 will wish it had gotten, if they can't shape up. bigempct or Tomster.

Dehaka can sort of counter Tracer. Sort of in that he can trade with her a fair bit before having to fountain. Burrow cancels out her ult, essence can throttle her damage, not as effectively as Chen's shield, and drag and AoE can melt her quick. Had more luck counter-initiating with Drag after she blows through her blinks to engage than aggressive plays. Also vastly prefer Adaption to Isolation. Man, do you pad her numbers though.

I really don't see how this fixes the core problems with Tracer. Her kit remains too strong, and impossible to punish unless you're playing on a highly organized team.

Good news is that really bad Tracers will likely die more often because her health pool is significantly lower . Bad news is that mediocre to good Tracers will still continue to be unkillable and annoying little shits
