he was shitting on Glaurung at THH when I've never even seen anyone hype him up particularly.

I think, particularly in this thread, emotional/angry often gets thrown around when the correct word of description is passionate but /shrug.

re: Glau, though, didn't you say you came into the scene post Glau leaving Tempo Storm? The Glau train was hella hot with Glorious! and then his move to TS. Add in his appearances on THH making him popular, and you get Dread being like WTF this dude took us from winning every tournament to 2nd place in every tournament til we kicked him for Zuna.

He summed up what i thought about the quest stuff really well but i chalk up all the showboaty stuff on his own stream as doing it for da ppl

Oh I'm sure he's playing it up for the stream. The life of an entertainer.

Like that one time he popularized vorpal blade Zeratul maybe.

Speaking of which, Yuuj from team blaze went ham on Glau's vorpal build on stream last night. Called it trash, said it was a crutch for players who can't land good Void Prisons. Said Glau's playstyle is too predictable and that's his problem. The kid gets the reactions out of people for sure.

Glau in general for na...i guess the scene is like the dursleys and hes harry potter, he mainly exists to get shit on. Reddit luvs him tho

@ketch yeah the one time i tested him was w/ quest talents but i wouldnt favor something like 25% reduction on vault or teleport personally, needs testing tho

Also not havig those for odin suuuucks

Can you not use them in Odin? I know the lvl 20 you can.

literally just did say that, and that's 3 months out of 12. Meaning there were 9 months to cool down from it. That's emotional not passionate. And wasn't the problem that they made Glau shotcaller?

Id prob say ts had a culture that glau didnt mesh with and cog feels kind of uh tolerant of him

Dread is def not an unbiased source of info on glau lol, the first time i ever saw ts stream glau was constantly talking over dread and dread gave the silent treatment until finally being like ok if you're not going to listen to me i dont care let glau shotcall amd glau was all :^) aight man, but they were back to dread the next day

There was a competitive scene in 2014 too breh. That's when he was with Glorious and Tempo was still SMG.

And yes, part of it was Glau as shotcaller. The rest is the same problem he still has...reliance on two or three heroes and trying to cram them into every draft.

I tried the alternatives and they weren't particularly better to me, vorpal blade has the bigger play potential though. GP is pretty much unusable in single queue.

that wasn't the question though, might have existed but was hardly relevant.

Vorpal for sticking, gp for burst/harass, master warp for isolation + objectives. There's no reason to take vorpal every game but glau is pretty into it and i kinda like that he sticks with it, i actually played gp zera on ptr it's free pickings w/ the stuff ppl are testing if any of you are interested in that

I can't comment on Vorpal myself, just got a kick out of Yuuj tearing him down all the while saying "nothing against Glau personally" lol.

I had a great winrate with Mageatul but never had same success with AA or anything else after the changes.

My new found love of ARAM is fading fast with the fact that ****ing Tassadar and Sonya are still labelled incorrectly. Going into a match where one side has Hammer and the other side's only support is Tassadar is just a waste of time, you may as well immediately quit.

With Illidan and Tychus, it just seems like they're making other assassins more like Greymane, upping their damage potential and skill cap while lowering their independence by stripping out generic talents like vampiric assault, first aid and stone skin.

Tychus still has a variation of vampiric assault, it's just tied to his trait on a 12 second throttle and only active versus other heroes. So now it's teamfight sustain versus the old lane sustain where you could afk right-click creep waves and buildings to get back to full health without going back to fountain.

I only found success with Zeratul once Mageatul got banned, I was awful at landing skillshots at the time.

That's the RNGARAM I know, though I can't say I've had a huge issue with those. It's the (prior to this patch) games where one team gets KT + Sylv for chain bomb + vuln and then your team gets like Tychus and Butcher with Uther to heal all that AOE damage up.

Those are the ones where your soul leaves your body. At least on the new map people can't prolong by turtling at the core or traveling behind forts that are still up to use wells, though. It's over p quick from what I've seen on PTR in comparison to the live version.

BUT THEY ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE MAL

I love Leicester Tigers. Somehow started watching rugby one day, shit is awesome. For actual reals.

My final ARAM game we managed to win even with a Tassadar healer versus a Li-Ming, with me on Azmodunk. No boasting, but I literally carried the entire team there. It's SO easy to stack the bonus damage now compared to what it was before, and on that map the waves are really easy to clear thanks to your team.

After a certain point, Azmo just starts wearing them down and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Yeah azmodan is the shit in aram, a lot of ppl go sieging wrath for some reason tho

I haven't played HotS for ages but a League playing friend wants to start.

More specifically, a League playing friend wants to get into ranked as quickly as possible and wants to know the heroes to buy. Given the good heroes will probably change in the time from now to when they hit the ranked level, what types of heroes do you need to buy to have a good spread of heroes in ranked?

Well if he wants into ranked quick, he's in luck. The patch dropping next Tuesday removes the account level requirement to queue. You just have to own the heroes. On the flipside, you do need 14 heroes now instead of just 10 thanks to bans being implemented.

You'll want 4-5 assassins (or specialists who function like assassins...which is most of them to varying degrees). At least two supports and two tanks that you can play decently. That puts you with at least 8 heroes you can choose from.

From there you can backfill the rest with the cheap heroes (some of which are pretty good anyway) and try to bolster your roster as you go. As we sit right now, you'd want Li-Ming, Thrall, Muradin, and Xul for sure.

Ranked is becoming available to everyone next tuesday in order to help accomodate smurfs. Also, free rotation heroes are going to be available in ranked as well.

Make sure to use recruit a friend so your buddy gets the free Raynor and Sylvanas. Here's my link if you don't care about the bonus mount (or if you yourself are under player level 5 on there and can activate the bonus.) https://battle.net/recruit/WNX6HZ6MFF

Buying all the 2Ks is a good start for a baseline collection. Don't do the same with the 4Ks though, they're much more niche overall. Of the 4Ks, Jaina, Johanna, Sonya, Zagara are all worth grabbing as well. Tassadar too, but he is NOT a main healer in normal games- play him as a hybrid in a DPS spot. Of the 7Ks, Diablo, Falstad, Murky, Raynor, Stitches, Thrall, Tyrande and Uther are all good. Tyrande, like Tassadar, is a hybrid- don't rely on her as a solo healer.

It's actually easier- free rotation heroes (not named Cho/Gall) count towards the 14.

Sort of, you left out the key part:

Blizzard said:
Additionally, any Heroes that you’ve reached level 5 or higher with —including the Heroes you own, as well as those on the Weekly Free-to-Play Rotation— will now count toward the minimum hero requirement, and can be selected for play during ranked games.

He has to level those free heroes to five before they count. It doesn't take long, but it would take some time and it sounds like he's planning on just buying em all anyway.

Didn't know free rotation heroes counted towards ranked. So it could be that some weeks you can play ranked and other weeks you can't?

Edit: ok clarified.

He has been known to spend money frivolously on games like this.

Thanks for the help guys.

There's a weekly sale where a hero goes 50% off each week. (They also did a Black Friday/Holiday sale where literally everying was half off in Nov/Dec.) It's a very good way to pick up the expensive 10K heroes. If he's not money averse- he should grab the 10Ks for 4.99 when they're on sale.

Also, he should grab the "Starter Bundle" - he'll be getting Raynor for free from Recruit-A-Friend, but it's $4 for 2 2K heroes, a mount, and a 7 day stimpack. (I'm not sure if they're still doing the "your first 30 day stimpack is $5 thing anymore.)
Not sure how I feel about free rotation being allowed in ranked
Is a good thing, allows for more bans later.

both our hammers got hover siege so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

was thinking more about the increased core health, it took a while to beat it down even tho I was dmg monk! but our comp was kind of poor at putting dmg on buildings besides hammer so I dunno, the amount of time to kill it felt substantial and I do think it might affect the ability for teams to power play a core down

on the other hand I had a game last night in a regular game where we just wiped and ended and it felt normal, but I was paying more attention this time, the core health does seem prtty beefy now. dunno how I feel about it, core health being high can potentially lead to a lot of trouble imo

oh damn this reflexive block talent on illidan is pretty sweet

i really liked weaving in and out of fights w/ illidan, but this whole you gotta q them to get block charges, you gotta w them to get resistant, it's all pretty interesting

Okay, what was the point of the Gazlowe "re-work"? As far as I can tell, it's changed absolutely nothing and he remains an utterly garbage hero in every respect.

Feels like a preliminary thing setting up for other changes, blizz always confuses me w/ their use of "rework" since i played league where it meant a hero getting rebuilt from the ground up vs. here where it means talent tweaking.

Yeah, that is pretty weird. I'd like to see a hero get new base abilities and shit.

Reddit thread on lane assignments, Excitedronpaul.png

Over/under on laning becoming part of casual meta play? My optimistic guess is by the end of the year cuz of the implementation of bans and the resources for learning good drafting only really existing in pro games.
