Is your wife/gf/bf a gamer? Are they as "hardcore" as you?

Wife and best friend (female) are both gamers, we kill in heroes of the storm, play a lot of coop games and what not. I'd say they are as "hard core" as i am... But then again, I don't play the typical "hard core" shooters and what not.
 
Sadly, my wife doesn't game unfortunately. Vi enjoy games, grew up playing Atari to now Next Gen / PC. She "condones" me from buying any new graphics cards or new toys. I mean she'll once in a while watch me play a game with a progressive path and a great story line (waiting for The Division) but games like Batman and akike, she'll sit and watch... But then fall asleep soon after. I wish she gamed more or had more interests in games...I don't mind the benefits of being in bed with her so it makes up for it in other ways...

Anyway my wife games, but we're very different gamers though.

She loves bethesda games, sims, legos, mass effect etc.

Right now she's playing cities skyline as a matter of fact.

We played together more before, we moved. Now she spends so much time at work we have less time to play together.

We have multiple TV's so it's usually not a fight over who gets to play, except when she was going in on Fall Out 4 when she had to mirror the xbox one on her computer while I played on the tv.
 
Not really, but she does play LoZ games, N64 games, Bayonetta and Transistor. She can appreciate games, and enjoy watching me play.

She's actually excited about Horizon Zero Dawn.

Thanks, I'm gonna need it. She's typically more of a PC gamer, but I've been training her in the ways of Street Fighter V as of late (though she called me out for always using Karin, which was what inspired me to spend more time with F.A.N.G, Rashid, & Charlie). She does play Smash though, so that's a plus.
 
Only had one GF that used play to video games.
Had mixed feelings about that.
While it was fun to play some party, fighting ( man she was brutal at MK lol ), Heavy Rain esque and sports games with her, sometimes I just wanted to play MY games and she was around like "put a game we can play togheter".
Gaming is like a solo moment for me, is that moment when I can unplug from university/work/bills and everything else and be there just by my self doing something that I love.
 
My wife isn't a gamer and hope she stays that way. IMO gaming is me time and I would hate to share that. We already have other common interests, gaming does not need to be one of them. We do play games like Until Dawn and heavy rain together but that's about it.
 
My girlfriend is a funny case I think. She actively played video game since she was a child and first time I met her was actually on Quake III Arena for Dreamcast. Eh.

She enjoys the challenge and unlike me became quited addicted with trophies. However she doesn't care at all about the gaming industry and the news. Last time she did actually mistook the Xbox One for the Xbox 360 and was not aware about Final Fantasy XV. And that very same person got the Platinum on Demon's Souls, Dark Souls II, Bloodborne and 30 other games I think. Oh, she was also a HUGE Monster Hunter nerd before, but she stopped after MH3U.

Problem is, MMO killed the curiosity and the appetite she had before for all sorts of game. There was WoW of course, but now she's daily on Final Fantasy XIV since the game relased on PS4 (I bought a second PS4 because of this). She enjoys being in a guild and all the strategy around the most difficult battles there.
 
My wife is a gamer, but she tends to prefer handheld and retro titles. Her favorite game is Persona 4 and she's cosplayed as several characters from it. In fact she's currently working on an Aigis outfit for PAX East.

She's currently playing through Dark Cloud, a title she loved when it was new but never beat.
 
Yes and yes. Part of why we married each other. We combined our backlogs and we had had 500+ games at one time. Due to space and the aging devices, we sold a lot of our older generation consoles and games except the PS2 king. Our backlogs from THAT console STILL is larger than our newer consoles and handheld combined. Its that crazy but we adore rpgs in that era anyway.
 
My wife loves Bioware games, is very good at classic arcade games like Galaga and Ms.Pacman, and enjoys playing games like Tekken and Earth Defense Force with me.

So yeah, I guess she's a gamer. But I'm the more "hardcore" in terms of number of games I buy and play, and have more varied tastes in games, relatively speaking. But when she loves a game, she plays for hundreds if not thousands of hours (i.e. Mass Effect and Dragon Age).
 
Not at all can't play games, but likes watching me sometimes appreciates story's and certain art styles that inspire her artwork.
 
Nope. My fiancée has been my best friend since middle school and has only slight interest in games. While she likes co-op games she plays very seldomly by herself. She pretty much just plays with me.
 
Last boyfriend wasn't really into gaming that much. He was into all the usual mainstays like Call of Duty and FIFA and stuff but he never really ventured out of that comfort zone.Tried to get him into more outlandish games but he never seemed to enjoy them that much. He was also exclusively a console gamer so the PC side of things didn't appeal to him either. Finding a local fella who's into more than just the yearly shooter and sports sequels is pretty tricky, surprisingly!
 
Yes and no.

She only really plays Zelda games and a little bit of 2D Mario, I've tried to get her into other games but she just won't stick to it.
 
She plays some games. She likes to play co-op with me, doesn't have much interest in playing solo.

She was more into games when she was younger.
 
My wife never played video games until she met me. As with many such people last decade, I imagine, she started with Wii Sports, Resort and Wii Fit. After that she played Tekken, first just button-mashing but then with some planned moves, throws and blocking. Now she plays the Dynasty Warriors games. They are popular with a lot of Japanese women. She has tried a few racing games, but she isn't very good at them, although she enjoyed the B-Spec races of Gran Turismo 5. She tried Call of Duty 4 a few years ago but she couldn't get to grips with the controls. She probably could now but doesn't want to try again.

She has had a few goes at other fighters, most recently Dead or Alive, but doesn't like them as much as Tekken.

Handhelds, she likes rhythm games - Taiko no Tatsujin and Elite Beat Agents.
 
My girlfriend is lovely enough to want to share passions with me so she is giving it a real sporting effort. She loves it when she accomplishes stuff and is really proud of herself, but she does get frustrated easily. I'm so impressed by her passion and am completely thankful.
 
My fiance and I are both pretty equally into games- we even met on a MMO. He plays a lot more AAA/big name games than I do (I play mostly JRPGs and visual novels), but he's gotten more into JRPGs recently. Sucks sometimes, tho, cause now we either have to figure out how to share without spoiling each other or we just have to buy 2 copies (which super sucked for Fire Emblem Fates cause that's like 2 $80 games lol).
 
She plays a variety of things like Skyrim, Fallout, McGee Alice, Bioshock, Until Dawn, ARK, and Legend of Zelda.

But it's not a hobby or anything and she couldn't give a second thought for the most part. Generally she'll spend a couple of hours one day and then either stop playing entirely or start up again months later to do the same process. She's also pretty obsessed with Xbox and Steam as platforms (even lamenting recently that Twilight Princess HD was on the Wii U, which we do own....). And that's fine
except for the LoZ thing
as long as she isn't criticizing my way of approaching the medium [within reason] either.

So no, she's very much a casual player in comparison.
 
My boyfriend is a gamer. But not like, one of those gamer guys who only plays FIFA or just plays Animal Crossing it to fit in with the girls or only likes fan service-ridden JRPGs. A real gamer who will play Bloodbourne and knows about shit like Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Okay, so he's obsessed with Animal Crossing, has never beaten a Pokemon or Fire Emblem game, and played through MGSV. I still love him.

She enjoys games a lot and shares my love for Nintendo. I'll argue she might be more hardcore than me, since she actually beat and 100% the Kingdom Hearts games, and I find those games too hard for me.

I do like to play videogames all the time in my spare time and she usually enjoys more watching anime or reading, so there is a balance there. I believe she actually submitted a request to join NeoGAF.
 
When I met my wife she used to play Tekken. Now all she plays is Neko Atsume.

Interests change over the years, all that matters is that she doesn't

bother me while I'm playing my games :)
 
Before we had a kid my wife played alot of gears2 and halo3 but after the kid took a few years off but recently she has been playing pvz garden warfare online which she enjoys alot.
 
I don't consider myself a gamer and when I asked my wife she said she wasn't really keen on the label either.

I used to be a qa game tester and I've been playing video games almost as long as I've been walking. My wife is a comic book and video game artist who grew up on the Genesis and PS1.

We both play games a lot. But we've never really whipped or dicks out and compared size so I can't comment on who outranks whom in terms of being hardcore.

She notes that my gamerscore and trophies are higher than hers, but she 100%'s games that I haven't even beaten, so who can say?

Also she is the most beautiful and amazing woman in the world, so I win or whatever this thread is about.
 
Yes but she bounces around between mobile and spelunky. She's pretty good.
She also likes a lot of Nintendo games like animal crossing, paper Mario series, Mario luigi series and Pokemon. She played half way through Ni No Kuni but through in the towel when it got to repetitive
 
No. She'll play some games, but it's generally light stuff and mobile games. I had her playing Puzzle & Dragons for a while, but neither of us play that anymore.
 
Yes, he is. Maybe not, but that's because he was a major MMO player and doesn't have the same amount of time he used to have for games.
 
My wife's a huge gamer for stuff that she's into, but it's a pretty specific and sparsely populated list. For that list though, she invests far more time than I do, but like I said there are few games that draw her in like that. She loves space stuff, Resident Evil, survival horror games in general, survival simulator type games on PC, game dev tycoon type stuff, (business games I guess), Persona, and fantasy games with more adult oriented writing like The Witcher or Fallout. Outside of those things, she doesn't game much but with those specific things she puts in two to three times the amount of gaming that I do. That being said, she gives zero shits about what I play, and that's kind of a bummer haha. I always take a huge active interest in what she plays and I kind of treat it like a "let's play" by actively participating in games with her while she takes the reigns, but I can't think of any game that she's done that with me for outside of The Last of Us and Bloodborne. I guess she just finds most of my stuff kind of boring :/
 
My wife played Diablo 3 on PS4 with me from start to finish. We usually play games like Super Mario World or Mario Kart 8 together, but she is about to start playing Divinity: Original Sin with me. She doesn't usually play games alone, but she is a big fan of the Atelier games.
 
the girl I'm seeing now has zero interest in games. She doesn't even play tetris. She doesn't even play monopoly or poker. I think, somehow, I'm ok with this. My other passion is music and I've never dated a musician either, which is actually kind of odd to me. my best friend and his wife play in a band together and I've always been kind of jealous of that but with gaming it's different. I don't have to hide it or pretend I'm not into it and she doesn't have to feign interest in it. We know where we stand and that's perfectly ok.
