I would wait to see more than just how the character looks to start labeling this "woke". The character is based off of the look of the real life actor so I guess reality is woke too.

Devil's advocate here, but you've inverting causation. If the character looks "woke", and the character is based on the actress, then the actress got the job because of how she looks - which is how casting works. Given the developer, the director, the actress, and the context, people rushing to label this as "woke" aren't randomly ascribing terms to unrelated things, they're connecting the dots.

With that said, I don't really care if something is "woke" or not. I just care if it looks interesting, looks original, or just plain looks fun to play. This trailer had literally nothing for me. Here's hoping their gameplay reveal isn't Bloodborne combat set against 80s songs using lifted art design.

He’s right. There have been a number of people having meltdowns here over “GAF” thinking a particular way, as if GAF is an artificial bubble and the real reaction is universally positive. This is not supported by any evidence. Some are positive, some are negative. If anything, the reception here closely reflects the like/dislike ratio on YouTube, which is mixed towards a 50:50 split.

This opinion might hold some value if we hadn't seen a collection of games with similar divisive characterisations and contexts bomb like Dresden in recent years.

The idea that this is just an opinion of the 'orrible chud gaffers is not really borne out by massive triple AAA games spectacularly failing with the entire audience.

Where are you getting that from? This would need to be Airplane levels of straight face comedy gold to reconcile what they've already shown IMO. It just comes across a low thought writing and directing to put a milkshake cup in a spaceship and put that in the trailer without a joke punchline.

Naughty Dog is the single most popular games developer in the industry today. It's bound to draw more attention and opinion than anything else, regardless of content. This isn't about Druckmann - beyond the fact he is responsible for the content of this trailer, which, as I say, has disappointed many due to its tired tropes.
