Forum is in danger of having a consensus opinion you don’t like, you mean. You can push back against that by stating your dissenting opinion. Your metacommentary about the forum makes the discussion worse.
No that isn't true. I welcome opinions that differ from my own. I have no problem with my values or way of thinking being challenged as it can cause me to reflect on my positions. Doesn't mean I'll always change my mind and nor should it. Sorry if my comment upset or offended you in some way.

Given the content and the obvious reaction I have to wonder if PlayStation intentionally sent this trailer out in this financial quarter to absorb the problem with their positive share situation in the event they have to Concord it.

Presumably the net outcome would be like this

Where are you getting that from? This would need to be Airplane levels of straight face comedy gold to reconcile what they've already shown IMO. It just comes across a low thought writing and directing to put a milkshake cup in a spaceship and put that in the trailer without a joke punchline.
If the game isnt suppose to have humour, why would they have her sucking a straw making a goofy face while talking to a commander, and then doing Pet Shop Boys nostalgia in the first trailer? It's a GotG kind of vibe.

These people’s takes are like we’re not watching the same trailer

Nothing suggests it’s lighthearted
People just making up shit up to hate. Anti woke mob at its finest. Would love to actually talk about the game trailer on a games forum but arrrg she's bald , she might be non binary even though the press release says 'she' and her, and i can't tell what race she is. I hate it.....

Not open world. I don't see ND doing that. I'm going for some sort of God Of War 2018 vibe. I hope it goes nowhere near Soulslike combat.
You never know. It might be. She's got a spaceship after all which means zooming around different points of the planet or universe. Kind of like ME games where planets open up and you choose which missions to tackle first on your own.

I could see the areas being the size of Fallen Order or Jedi Survivor, but I hope they don’t go the Souls route with combat. I’ve had e fucking nough of that style. Give us a break for the love of god.
on the wall shot there are listings for parts for sale. Im thinking customizable ship

Devil's advocate here, but you've inverting causation. If the character looks "woke", and the character is based on the actress, then the actress got the job because of how she looks - which is how casting works. Given the developer, the director, the actress, and the context, people rushing to label this as "woke" aren't randomly ascribing terms to unrelated things, they're connecting the dots.

With that said, I don't really care if something is "woke" or not. I just care if it looks interesting, looks original, or just plain looks fun to play. This trailer had literally nothing for me. Here's hoping their gameplay reveal isn't Bloodborne combat set against 80s songs using lifted art design.
More like reaching...

If it ends up being full of woke politics, we can all revisit this topic, but right now, based on what we know, having a female character who is Black in a completely new IP and labeling it woke or getting upset over that seems a bit silly to me.

Wasn't the "it's a sin" track lyric designed to 4th wall break to project the character's presumed associated orientation, by words, artist orientation and the origins of the track? because just being a bounty hunter going after a criminal target doesn't align with the track, and putting it in the foreground audio if just a random choice makes no sense, either

"The Meaning and Significance of the Lyrics
“It’s A Sin” explores the relationship between human desire and religious values, dealing with themes of sin, guilt, religion, and sexuality. The song was daring and controversial at the time of its release because it addressed homosexuality, the AIDS epidemic, and the church’s views on both. The lyrics are intense and emotional, delivering a message that speaks to people from all walks of life and social backgrounds.

I hope this site does not become insufferable with its hate AND with its defense of this soon to be game both now and after it comes out. I might have to use that ignore topic feature in the future if that becomes the case.

I very much appreciate the fact we can have different opinions here but some people have gone full clown mode. You never go full clown mode. Some people here would have a meltdown if the original Terminator came out today.
Any why would people go nuts over T1 releasing today? Because it's a 1984 low budget movie which would be laughed at 40 years later? No doubt. But for the time, it was a great movie.

You got a tag team of a future soldier and modern day female target battling a Terminator. Killing, blood, and classic Arnie at the early part of his movie career. People love it.

Yeah, but no. If that was purely the reason we'd have had the same comments about this game, which was a great game

I didnt look into the PSB song that deep, but never knew the meaning of it. I used to listen to a lot of PSB, New Order, INXS and U2 back in the day. But Ive never been someone who looks into the meaning of songs. As long as it's a catchy rock song or a ballad doesn't really matter. Maybe I've got bad hearing, but for a lot of songs I cant even tell what half the lyrics are unless I google it or find a YT video with lyrics displayed. But thats just me. Maybe most people actually care about the real meaning of songs.

If that song is suppose to truly reflect the character and it'll lead to her preaching politics, sexuality and religion to gamers, I'm not surprised.

It's too early too write it off as woke trash . The game could be amazing mechanically and have a great narrative .

Returnal has the same garbage flung at it and it has top tier gameplay.

Unless the game has trans diaries or ramming woke ideology in our face.
Returnal was 0% woke and it was awesome. Selene was written like a modern day Ripley, which is something that you cannot expect from ND.

Technically it looks good, the only thing is of course hidden advertising of brands...nscription Porsche on the starship in the back, this is absolutely necessary? It does not kill the serious perception of the trailer? The design of the main character, frankly speaking, does not matter if the character is well-written and interesting, here just considering who this game is from, another question arises what percentage of the agenda will be this design of the main character.
Harmless ad placements that make sense, the ship had to be made by someone, is a great way for devs to cover the cost of these $500 million games and not have to pay back the investment. Seriously, seeing Porsche on the ship is not a big deal at all.

Now if the game took place in say 2030 and the main character walked around in a NASCAR jacket with ads all over it, that would be different.

Yup.

I remember people making fun she looks like Megan Rapinoe (I did myself). But once the game got going, nobody cared because it's a no nonsense shooter with zero political preaching. At least I never remembered any of that watching clips.

I totally get it that some people are saying wait for the game, instead of pre-judging. But too bad. That's life. Everyone pre-judges based on first impression. And Druckmann has a history of lesbian/trans/preaching in past games. He's even gone on social media ragging against gamers about it. So dont be surprised if you get more of that, especially since the lead actress even has social media political tweets people posted.

Then again, maybe Intergalactic is a no nonsense Returnal kind of game which is all gameplay and no lectures.

Co-opting a good iconic pop track for sensitivity sweet baby gaming topics in a game is such a disservice and disrespect of the music IMO when it was originally written against a backdrop of important issues of intolerance and ignorance that needed fixed ASAP.

Returnal = woke middle aged/grandma simulator. No thanks.
Nah, Selene gets her ass kicked constantly in that game. Everything she does is believable, as opposed to making people think a woman in a post apocalyptic setting would be built like Christian McCaffery, or that people in the same setting would take orders from a frumpy middle aged woman.

Parody of actual AJUMP23
I don't even know why that keeps getting brought up. It wasn't a style choice. It was forced on her. A prisoner forcefully stripped of her identity like the rest. Had nothing to do with being badass. In the fourth movie, the hybrid clone Ripley was a dangerous badass and had her hair.
It was a movie. So they chose to cut her hair for the movie as a means of promotion. Much like Demi Moore.

I’m not stretching. The comparisons are obvious. Stop deep throating a video games developer.

The game may well end up being excellent, but this reveal was not.
Ha - deep throating. I don’t even like Naughty Dog games all that much. Your comparisons are just shit.

For someone that has been saying you would have preferred a safer game, a more ordinary world, a recycled character design, you now seem very passionate about the elements this game may have been influenced by (which have little to do with a single marvel movie but dozens of 80s pop culture references that appear all over the place).

Really what happened was your broken woke detector jumped to conclusions based on a female MC and you are grasping for straws to make it seem like you have a substantial argument. For an initial trailer its fine. You can confirm or refuse to deny your assumptions when we have more information.

Not really. The main underlying problematic tones with this game most people have is that it'll be another sassy 'woman' being a man power fantasy made by a man who loves a grifting activist

You kinda late to the party, start around Tlou 2 (Or even Uncharted 4's Nadine Ross).
no way you can pull all of that from teaser trailer. ahh yeah Tlou2, Uncharted I know them 'very' well, goat games!

Wtf with her god damn Greek Olympic god shoulders. This shit is so stupid

I'd actually like to understand the desire to masculinise female characters so much. Okay, I get not wanting to appeal to the male gaze, for whatever reason... but why does that translate into presenting women in such a way that does not appeal to women either? Why deliberately de-feminise your female characters, and make them look more mascu -

...only joking. I understand exactly why. The character is meant to appeal to trans women. Which is fine I guess - but lets not spend any more time pretending anything different.

Damn, the one on the left is smoking! I'd play the fuck out of that game. Even if the writing ended up being shit, at least the protag is good looking.
But outside of that, I do wonder how this game will be received upon release. Even if she were hot, that is no indication on the whole that the game would be good, only that the art and animation department deserve a raise.

Still though, the one on the left is really nice looking.

Everyone can watch the trailer for themselves, and it would appear that most people do indeed see parallels with the wildly successful Guardians Of The Galaxy movies. And quite where you've conjured up the idea that I would prefer a safer game, I just don't know. You're confusing me with someone else, or just not reading my posts properly.

...and screaming WOKE! at someone who is critical of something doesn't work here. You can dislike me being critical of how derivative this trailer is, but don't engage in Era style bullshit.

Concerns I have about this game have nothing to do with the design of the MC. I think the vibe is cool - my fear is that it seems like you’re primarily using a sword (I know Neil Druckmans a fan of Elden Ring) - and it seems to take place on a single planet. I’m hoping its got some good gunplay instead of primarily relying on melee weapons - and I hope the enemies aren’t all robots.
