To everyone feeling down/depressed: Get involved. For the first time in my life, I'm calling Senators'/Representatives' offices and letting them know how I feel. That alone has helped tremendously.

I don't think Bernie Sanders is the Messiah and many of his plans are flawed from the most basic functional level. So, to quite a few people I know in real and now am encountering on GAF, I'm not progressive enough for the party going forward.
I am for single payer, I am for education reform, I am for regulation of the financial sector. But since I'm not for those things in one specific way, to people I thought were friends, I'm not any longer.

Let's not forget the GOP gave up some easy elections during the Obama years because they nominated completely unacceptable candidates in key races like Delaware and Indiana. Can't wait to see the reactionary left make the same mistakes in 2018.

I see. I don't think Bernie is a messiah either.. I think what we need to keep in mind is a lot of people are trying to rationalize this loss and how to move forward. I get why some people think we need a full on socialist like Bernie moving forward but just remember that isn't true. Even people who where totally behind Bernie would still have been fully behind him even if he was more moderate on specific policy. People got behind him because he was genuine. Genuine and likeable and that I think generally overrides most policy.
Don't let people get you down because I'm not even for single payer (I don't think it is constitutional here) or a lot of the things Bernie stood for.. that stuff and purity testing on policy isn't as important as needing someone going forward who everyone on the dem side believes actually wants to good well for everyone.

It's one thing to make Trump look corrupt, unethical, and so forth, but if the Democrats are really serious, they'll have to develop a narrative of incompetence -- ex. this guy fucks up everything he touches. When Republicans are going for the Big Kills instead if killing entitlements by a thousand cuts, this should be a lot easier.

Perhaps consider donating to some of the causes that are going to fight Trump? There's a good OP in the OT, with places to donate to stolen from the latest episode of Last Week Tonight. Beyond that? I'm not really sure, aside from making goddamn sure that Trudeau stays in power (although you guys only hold your elections every... 5 years?)

I haven't looked at any of my typical left wing blogs and news outlets that I normally would frequent on a daily basis. Partly because there doesn't seem to be anything really consoling about the whole ordeal.

The goal is proportional representation in the upcoming (hopefully fruitful) electoral reform committee reports. With Brexit and Trump immediately behind us... it kind of takes on even greater significance.
