Oliver covers some great news but the jokes are so terrible sometimes, it can get grating to watch. Bee is funnier but I wish her segments were longer.
Oliver is horrible. Not funny in the least. When his joke isn't hitting, he starts yelling. If that doesn't hit, he drops an F-bomb. It's cheap and formulaic. He's terrible.
Fan fiction used to be reserved for themost diehard devotees of fantasy novels and boy bands but it's made its way into this election.
Fictional stories written about characters or real people can be found at almost every corner of the internet subjects range from television shows like Game of Thrones, book series like Harry Potter, and celebrities like Beyonce and Jay-Z. Fan fiction websites are home to millions of stories Archive of Our Own hosts over 2 million alone, almost a thousand of which feature politicians.
Fan fiction has developed a reputation for being sexual in nature, and while that be true for a great deal of what's out there, political authors are using the medium to explore different aspects of the candidates' personalities.

things'll be peaches, keep ya chin up m8Australia is a mess.
Probably going to have a minority conservative government, with a right faction that want to knife the PM, who probably would've won easily if he was allowed to be as moderate as he actually is.
We elected three white nationalists and a theocrat to the senate, where they'll probably hold the balance of power.

Disagree. His deep dives are like nothing else on TV, they can be really interesting even if you don't like his humor (I do). See: Our lady of perpetual exemption. Also the recent Retirement one was pretty good, or so I thought. Especially since it's not like young people (aka his audience) are going to be giving it much thought.
I'd rank them Bee > Oliver > Noah > Wilmore (I don't even really watch the Nightly Show TBH, not interested in panel shows in the slightest).
Samantha Bee has been fantastic, really wish we got more material of hers each week, I'd kill for a daily Full Frontal.
It's okay for the military to kill people of color in Global South, as long as it has diverse leadership

this is spot on lmao. He loves screaming at pictures in the corner of his screen.Oliver is funny, but a lot of his stuff is pretty forced, like when he makes a side joke and does it for 15 seconds screaming saying "NO, YOU CAN'T DO THAT" or something.
His delivery for just doing the segment is top notch, actual joke stuff is kinda flat.
Bee is just ace all around, so she gets the edge over Oliver.
God dammit Adam. Don't #fraud in bushwick

His deep dives are usually pretty slanted. That's fine if you always agree with him, but it just takes one where you're like "that's not really an accurate way to explain X" to make you start questioning all of them..
He does do some deep dives which I like but they're often tough to get through. Bee really does it the best. Wish she would have gotten a daily show (haha) or weekly hour

True. Felt that way about a few of his segments. Especially the primary thing he didHis deep dives are usually pretty slanted. In prepared remarks, Corbyn said: Our Jewish friends are no more responsible for the actions of Israel or the Netanyahu government than our Muslim friends are for those of various self-styled Islamic states or organisations.

Noah's not good. I do feel he deserves more time, but I'm afraid he's always going to look happy to be there. The tone of the show just fit Stewart's weariness better, not to mention that he seemed genuinely angry. Do check out Noah's standup though: he's quite good when he can really be himself.
I cut the cord. Is there an easy way to see her show streaming? I don't mind paying for it if it's good.Personally, I totally agree. It's why I rank her number 1. I just think culturally she's not there yet, but she's gaining ground pretty quickly.

Didn't he (H.A. Goodman) back a libertarian recently (pre-2016 race)? He's not exactly a progressive as he is an anti-establishment guy.I wonder if he will pivot to Trump. There have been a few articles by other journalist written about him saying he comes off less as a Democrat and more as someone who is obsessively anti-Hillary.
I'm not slamming Oliver's show--the topics it covers are important and they do a great job of exposing things that need to be shown.
All I was doing was commenting on the man himself, who I find insufferable.
I find him funny, but his reporting is actually good quality and he generally hits important topics so I think there's value even if your humor doesn't align with his.
Brianna Wu says transgender individuals being able to serve in the military is good even if the military has done bad things and that diversity in the military could be helpful for making the military more aware of possible human rights violations. Salon.com has thoughts.

Socialists HATE her so much for liking Hillary Clinton and... making $80,000 a year? I like Brianna Wu, she's a fine person, Jill Stein is trash, get over it.

Noah's problem is that he's the guy following the legend. That never works well.
Also, am I the only one who thinks that if Noah got a show on HBO to shape around his talents and interests, while Oliver had to literally do the exact same format as his predecessor, we'd be having the exact opposite conversation right now? Like, of course, Sam Bee and John Oliver's shows are better-they got to build them! The promos for Noah's TDS were literally, "this is the exact same show you've been watching, with a darker guy in the chair. Don't freak out."
Also, this is (I think) my first official post in PoliGAF! I can officially add this thread to the college football thread (go Bucks!) to my GAF list of, "threads I read all day, but never participate in".

Well, he IS British.
While there are other names under consideration — including New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, Labor Secretary Tom Perez (a favorite of many people who are on Clinton’s team after having previously served in President Barack Obama’s administration), and Minnesota Sen. Al Franken — Kaine remains the odds-on favorite to get the job, say people close to Clinton
