Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

So, how come I only have two difficulty options for strikes now? I haven't played in a while, but didn't you used to be able to select from multiple levels for increased difficulty and higher level loot?

loot is based on your own light level so lower level strikes aren't really that necessary.

oh noooo! accidently bought 280 light gauntlets. there goes my marks......my thumb just hit the button.

I can use them for sure but damn that stings

edit: guys the more you play the higher your light will go, the higher your light the higher light will be on your drops. just keep playing.

So I preordered Destiny and have access to the Saros weaponry. It appears the damage of the weapon is upgraded by the vendor whenever I level, however the one I bought is now rendered useless? Do I need to keep buying over and over again (I won't)?

Also, what's up with the emotes and extra stuff for buying the deluxe version or whatever?

Third question, can I verify if my code from Redbull actually went through? I legitimately bought a can and entered the code, but I got confused and not sure if at the end the code went through and then told me I had already used it, or it was used before due to the hack? Should've I received anything immediately?

Fourth question, I keep dismantling all my weapons. Try to keep one of each type, and have variance of elemental damage for some of the weapons. Is this the way to go (Level 15 atm) or should I be taking into consideration stats like STR etc, or upgradability?

I finally understand why people actually called this crackstiny :(

those fwc armor pieces look really good...

Red bull: you should immediately (maybe after a log out-> log back in) get a letter in destiny with one item. How you get the special red bull quest I still have not figured out.

I beat the main Destiny campaign a year ago and haven't really played since. I'm like level 25.

If I buy this, wtf should I even do?

Seems really intimidating.

Well first of all you need The Dark Below and House of Wolves expansion to even be able to buy The Taken King so start with those I guess.

This expansion is amazing. its everything destiny should have been on release. There is a sense of discovery that hasn't been felt in awhile. Every single locked chest on the dreadnaught has a different mechanic to open which gives the game a lot of replayablity.

The new enemies are awesome as well. I thought they were just going to be reskins but they have new attacks and defenses.

YOU CAN GET A SWORD!!!!!!!

Im still working through quests and ive finished the main storyline already yesterday. There is just so much content here. Looks like bungie took all the criticism to heart and made destiny 2.0 amazing.

I just realized that because blue gear drop motes when you dismantle them, that they're actually quite useful now. All those items I shard reflexively are giving me XP to level my current gear. Got two legendary pieces half upgraded tonight from just motes I picked up from blues. Really changes the gear leveling process a lot.

I've been playing Destiny since launch. Got the season pass, and now TTK.

I only found out Motes gave your gear XP last week, when I saw someone do it on a random Destiny video. God fucking dammit. The hours I would have saved. I just thought that Motes were used to buy shit from the Speaker and Xur, and had never bothered to read their description.

Ah shit so wait you have to go back out and farm relic iron/filaments/spinmetal and stuff again? No more purchasing them?

EDIT: NVM saw the post up above. Where are they sold now?

Believe I saw them on vanguard quartermaster by the ship lady. Assume crucible quartermaster has them too. Only pops up if you have marks.

Edit: Nope, only vanguard quartermaster has em.

I know this has probably been asked and answered 100 times now, but it's not in the OP so here goes.

Is there any reason to hold on to my Year 1 Legendaries outside of wanting certain perks for crucible? I can't bring myself to get rid of the elemental primaries but I'm just about ready to dismantle everything else, including all of my Raid gear unless someone tells me to stop...

I did that yesterday. No regrets. I only kept my elemental primaries but got rid of the gears and common legendaries.

currently no reason to keep Legendaries outside of normal crucible. using them in PvE means your light will be lower, which means you can't do high level content.

You can buy year two versions of some Exotics once you get enough legendary Marks. But you wont have much of those until your light is higher.

I'd say keep onto weapons you really like and the good raid weapons in case that changes, but everything else can go.

Having played Destiny when it first came out, I'm now wondering if I should give this another shot. Just something about the art and gunplay that I loved and I now feel unfulfilled because I didn't continue on with it.

I found the grind and convoluted levelling tiresome. The lack of narrative was irritating. So I bailed before I even got a legendary and never did the first raid.

But I hear that TTK is good and resolves most issues and I think I want back in. Hell I'm even thinking about starting from right at the beginning, just giving this another go. But I need some positive reinforcement from people playing the game.

First time around I never really tried getting into the community side of things and I think that hurt my experience. Does this really need to be played with people you're familiar with? Where's the best place to find like minded guardians? Is going solo an option?

I feel like if I don't jump back in now it'll be too late.

Also, awesome OP Zoba, really good.

I'm doing the faction PvP quest line where I first did quests for Dead Orbit, and now it wants me to change to FWC. Do I keep the Dead Orbit rep if I change back?

It was a feature added with 2.0 last week. :p

I spent the evening exploring the Dreadnaught and figuring out some of the goings on there.

  • Got a weird three part transmission, and figured out how to decrypt it.
  • Found two keys and paired them to their chests. Lewt.
  • Finally realized what wormspore looks like.
  • Triggered a Court of Oryx event, solo, and beat it. (The Ogre with the exploding thralls.)
  • Found an Agonarch Rune, but not how to charge it.
  • Realized the Court is not the only place you trigger big public events.
  • That led to a Skyburners Deployment Codes, though I don't know what to do with them.
  • I summoned a relic that I carry around but can't figure out what to do with. Yet.
There's been more mystery, discovery, unexpected finds and actual exploration this evening than in all of last year combined in Destiny. And my quest log is longer now than when the day started.

As much as Bungie over sold the launch version of Destiny, they held a lot of cards close with this one. It's far larger and better than I expected.

Oh, and the Cryptarch package dropped a legendary engram, which turned into the 1000-Yard Stare sniper rifle. With exploding rounds. Yeah.

I think I know where to use the deployment codes, sadly I don't have them though lol.

I also know one of the functions of the relic, though it can be bypassed via other means too.

Edit: Deployment Codes:
In the Mausoleum, near the Cabal site, there's a room you can jump into by climbing on debris. Sometimes there's a chest in here, but there's also a sealed door. I believe the Deployment Codes are used to open it and there's a chest behind the door. I'm not 100% though.

Relic:
There's a hidden chest somewhere that hurts you constantly when you're nearby. The relic should nullify this effect. Titan bubble, and just using a super with as much armor as possible can also allow you to open it. I'm unsure if there are other purposes for the relic, probably are.

I played a quite a bit at launch, basically doing everything aside from the raids, then stopped playing and jumped back in with this expansion starting from the beginning. I'm only level 11 so far so I haven't touched any of the new content (including the first expansions) - aside from the updated ghost don't expect a *massive* change in the levelling experience.

Graphically it looks cleaner and smoother than I remember it, but I don't know if that's me forgetting how good it looked in the first place.

If you only want a single high level character, you can always use your Surge of Light and skip it all up to 25 anyway.

I hope this friday I can get an Exotic weapon and Armor piece from xur to boost up my light a bit more, then another vanguard piece, probably chest piece.

At least to get to 260. I think by next week I'll be able to get to 280.

This is what I hope for also.

No-one knows what Xur will be like this Friday though. Standard Strange Coin Xur, or New Strange Coin and Legendary Marks Xur

I only have 3 marks at present so hoping for Standard Xur

So he is going to sell stuff for legendary marks too? I have like 75 strange coins now. They've been dropping like candy since the expansion went live, which makes me worry, because that con only mean that things are gonna get expensive.

So yesterday I realized that i had 26 motes of light.. and thats the same amount for strange coins.

its fucking christmas!

Xur couldnt come fast enough.

No one knows right now. Well, no one but Xur.

According to Mark Noseworthy, Strange Coins will still be the only form of currency Xur will accept.

Let's say I ONLY have vanilla Destiny.

I need both previous expansions to play this one but that bundle is 80 bucks. The Legendary Edition comes with everything and the vanilla game.

So I buy the same game twice in order to save 20 dollars?

The legendary edition is 60 $ no? The Collector's edition of TTK is the one that costs 80$ right? Unless you're in Australia or somethin?

it's the sparrow race/speedrun strikes/crucible rift questchain you get from Amanda.

I finished the quest up to the crucible RIft stuff included

(Pick up Spark, Deliver Spark, Win 3 Rift Matches)

Now I'm on the next step which requires you to win matches while in a fire team and be the top scorer.

The red bull quests are really a chore to do.

One you hit 260 just go into the vanguard playlist and choose the level 40 version of strikes (not the Nightfall versions). 290+ loot drops in there and you'll hit 280 within a few strikes. At least that's what I did. Then I did the nightfall and the gear I got in there moved me to 286.

Better start getting banshee to rep 3 he will give out the class specific exotic from a mission. Hunter gets the ace of spades and warlock gets the tlaloc. Titan unknown.

Ace of Spades is Hunter exclusive?

Cool, Can't wait. I'm loving the expansion and I'm completely in love with ightstalker for pve and pvp, using smoke bomb when carrying the spark is OP lol.

Man everything about the dreadnought sounds so awesome :o.

The first time I landed in it I was astounded, its incredible. Look at these views:

Pulled from kotaku, by the way.

No spoilers, just a view. And inside, the dreadnought is just awesome too. It's really big and has an incredible sense of scale.
