Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

I went out of the tower to the Reef social space because I apparently need to do the HoW missions again as well, then went back to the tower and still nothing happened :/

Thanks for the help though, I might try again in a bit because it might be server issues or something

I had two 34s and both of them glitches the same way. Start working on other bounties and whatnot and it will unlock in a little while...this is happening to everyone

I absolutely feel the campaign missions are too little and too short for the asking price.
...
Post campaign content that asks me to go do crucible matches or run generic patrols isn't a meaningful continuation of the story.

I think this is part of your problem. You think that the battle with Oryx is the end. The quests you get afterwards are basically more story missions - eg there's a great one that takes you deeper into the Vault of Glass. It's not over by a long shot.

But too me those initial campaign missions were so well crafted I just can't understand being disappointed in them. Some of the best solo FPS levels I've played since half-life.

Sorry if this has been asked already or not - I was all ready to give myself to this game this week and then work went mental and I haven't even finished the campaign yet. :(

Outside of the three emotes you get in the insanely overpriced "collectors content" - are there anymore to pick up in game? I can't find anything out there on this.

Trying to do the grenade kill bounty, and I'm killing heaps of enemies with grenades but it's not counting towards the bounty. What am I missing here?

If I'm not equipped to offer an opinion on the game because I'm critical of it (while still playing it) then neither are you because you're so clearly invested in the game that you're not going to see nor admit to any faults. I absolutely feel the campaign missions are too little and too short for the asking price. There is virtually no build up to the menace of the big bad of the expansion. You see maybe two instances of him fucking factions up, there is no sense that he is this inexorable, crushing villain. Instead you wreck his shit in a handful of hours. A few more missions to highlight why he's a threat would have been nice. As it stands it's over in the blink of an eye. I remember the vanilla Destiny campaign being longer and that cost $60 compared to the $40 for this.

Yeah I'm likely going to get a bit more out of it because I enjoy the multiplayer versus with friends but going back to the grind doesn't interest nor seem like meaningful content to me. Post campaign content that asks me to go do crucible matches or run generic patrols isn't a meaningful continuation of the story. Quests that ask me to create orbs of light aren't meaningful content.

The post-Regicide quests include several actual story missions not just fetch or kill quests.

So you actually are wrong here.

The black stuff that sprays out of casbals helmet. Has it been confirmed if its blood or oil?
The grimoire makes references to oil, I think they use it to pressurise their suits to keep them alive as they come from a planet with a higher pressure atmosphere Iirc.

So now that I'm level 40, what's the best way to start earning some legendary marks??

Daily PvP quest, Daily Heroic Story quest, dismantling legendary gear you find that is't suitable for you and doing more of the quests that are available as some of them reward marks.

It seemed a bit slow to start but once you gear levels are up to doing the heroic weeklies I guess you'll end up with too many eventually.

Ok cool. That all makes sense.

Doesn't seem worth the $40 imo. I got the legendary edition for $48 and, having played vanilla Destiny but not the DLCs, it feels on sparse on content as it was before. The main campaign is way to short. I think I beat it in a little over 4 hours. Should have been at least a few more hours. They do a good job of reducing the amount of go here and scan then fight three waves of enemies formula and mix things up a bit. Remains visually interesting and Fillion Hunterbot is fun. Feels like it should have been a $20 expansion.

That said all the previous rules apply: basic gameplay is still fun and Bungie/Activision have clearly put a system into place where you either continue to pay their occasional upgrade fees or stop playing.
I'm sorry but the amount of stuff in here is worth a lot more than $20.
You cannot judge its worth just based on story missions alone for games like these, the massive reworking of the existing content and system with quality of life changes (that has happened only because TTK is a paid content),, three new sub classes, new gear, quest system, new patrol area, court of oryx, 8 new PvP maps, 5 new strikes and a raid...all of these are important and the price includes these. It might not be worth much to you personally but that does not take away from what this DLC brought with it overall to the game.

I cannot see it as $20...nope.

The $60 package for what you get in the Legendary edition is what we should have gotten a year ago. Current Destiny is not a $120 game. All the QoL stuff you listed is what the game should have been from the start. I don't like paying to beta test.

Again, I can be critical of the game and still enjoy it.

That's too much to ask.
The game in it's current state would have been too ambitious for vanilla version and there was no way the game would have launched with 3 raids, PoE, Trials of Osiris, 20-25 PvP maps, close to 100 exotic equipments and ~15 strikes and legendaries.

That's too much to ask.

You could say the QoL changes could have been there and I'd partly agree that they could have been better than what they were in the base game but still not what they are now because QoL changes only occur once a player base plays the game. The game Destiny will be a year from now will be better and improved when it comes to QoL than it is now...but that doesn't mean we should have been able to get those improvements now or even last year.

I'm constantly thinking about getting this game, but then again, I weren't too fond of the beta, but that's most likely because I got stuck really early on.

How exactly have they improved the experience in The Taken King, besides adding new raids, events, classes, locations and such. Anything specific or mechanics wise that have improved the game? More story?

Alright.

Got the Stag and Light Beyond Nemesis for my Warlock. VERY pleased with both. I also bought the Impossible Machines. My current gloves are 295 so I will have to upgrade these guys at 280.

For my Hunter I rolled the Celestial Nighthawk.

For my Titan I got the Empyrean Bellicose

Tempted to buy more engrams...I prolly will :D

sounds like three of coins is aready an abusable method of getting exotic engrams on story mode bosses, congrats on thinking that one out well bungie.

Yep,it's ANY ultra which means it's being farmed in minutes and exotics are basically meaningless now.

Well, even more meaningless compared to Xur I mean.

Does the retail version come with separate codes for all the expansions, or just a single code?

Since I already have house of wolves, I'd be great if I could sell it.

After people using checkpoint saves to help farm mob areas and level guns in year 1 you would think they would know not to do such things with boosters.

IMO limit it to the end screen from hard strikes, so you are forced to get to the end and fight your way there fairly.

That is kinda what I figured it would be. When I read the description it just sounded like you could use multiple ones to boost your chances at a single drop, so the logical thing would be to run a hard strike. But it's apparently nothing like that.

Oh well, either I'll get a pile of free exotics or they'll patch it out before I get home and I'll just run strikes all night like I planned to anyways.

Wtf.. game is saying I have a quest on earth but when I land there is no marker anywhere. Anyone else run into this?

Is it "Taken War: Petra" ? This is one you complete patrolling or whatever and it has a marker from the top level map but nothing when you zoom to earth

Ok that's it. Gamestop's deal is still going on for trading in your original copy for $20. It's the copy that came with my PS4 Bundle so hopefully they don't grief me over the "Not for resale" thing on it...maybe I will just use a sharpie and cross that out lol.

I never bought any of the DLC so sounds like a good deal and the impressions in here are great.

Can I bring in my Destiny disc without the steelbook? (To GameStop)

Haven't played the PS4 version since launch, but curious to jump back in on Xbox One.

So someone explain what all the extra stuff in Destiny does now. motes of light, strange coins, vanguard and crucible commendations, and the ascendant energy/shards I have.

Beat the main TTK story last night, but am still not sure what to do with all this year one stuff...

Finally got a chance to start last night and am really digging it. One thing that immediately stood out is how much better the level layout is with more verticality and such.
