I used to do this with Peeps and it was soooo gooood... but they must have put something new in them some time back because this year I tried it out and after over a week, the Peeps were still squishy like I had just opened them. It was pretty heartbreaking, tbh.

Others have touched on the general levels of political apathy, the de facto one-party state (people are still pissed at the Democratic Party for not doing anything when they were in power after Abe's first stint), and the fact that there are so many old people. Something else I'd like to bring up is - for the latest elections anyways - the voting system:

For the House of Councillors elections (this past Sunday), voters got two votes: one for a prefectural candidate, and one for a national party.

The national party vote is your standard party list proportional representation - roughly 40% of the elected councillors are elected in this manner, so if the Democratic Party gets 50% of that vote nationally, they get to appoint 50% of the 40% of councillors.

The other 60% of councillors are elected through single non-transferable vote. Thus in Tokyo Prefecture, there were 31 candidates, the top six vote getters got elected, and you had only one vote. Parties can put any number of candidates, so how do you know which one to vote for, when there is basically no prefectural level polling? It's a shit show.

My wife ended up voting for the only guy who was both pro-TPP and progressive on social issues, he ended up getting 11k votes... in all of Tokyo. At least her party vote was successful in getting some seats.

I don't like Peeps, but my mom loves them when they're stale. She was able to get em to dry out pretty well.

You all owe it to yourself to find a way to watch the Channel 4 series Power Monkeys. This shit is HILARIOUS. It manages to poke fun at British, Russian and American politics all at once. So good.

Pretty much everybody used to eat those things like that.

Whoever decided to mold those goddamned marshmallows into little birds was a freaking genius because Just Born would be considered Necco-tier garbage otherwise. I still don't think I can forgive them for taking Goldenberg's Peanut Chews, softening the texture, sweetening the chocolate, and putting 7 (instead of 8) of them in a single package.

There are some truly terrible people out there.

Fuck it, I'm going to edit this post with a bunch more analogies in a bit.


Edit: Okay I got some more ideas:

Hillary, Trump, and Bernie are all old (First Gen)?

People will waste their master ball (Benghazi) on Mewtwo (Barack Obama?) not realizing they should have saved it Articuno (Hillary)?

Eevees (Electoral Votes) were determined from the start to only be in favor of those three types?

Trump was thought to be weak to water types (Marco Rubio) but turned out to be weak to ice types (Hillary Clinton)?

Bernie Sanders was thought to be just some guy by himself (on the Seafoam Islands) but turned out to be on the way to challenge the elite 4?

People thought that the president (legendary birds) were the most important thing and the way to make change but you need to win down ticket races (Non Legendary Pokemon) just as much?

Man that image just makes me think of way too many ideas.

I guess Newt is good at dancing with the punches that will be thrown at Trump, but I don't know what the pick brings to the ticket.

Trump already has the uneducated white base vote locked up, what does Newt do to pull in a swing state or independents? Even his unfavorables are terrible.

i like both dark chocolate and candy corn which are things that normal people hate

anybody who hates on dark chocolate hasn't had it with a good red imo

i also like anchovies on my pizza and vegemite on my breakfast toast (i'm american)

They didn't announce the results until friday too.

I was lucky enough to be too young to care about 2000 very much, but I can't imagine having to go through that in 2016, with the republican party the way they are right now and the supreme court very directly in the balance.
