What annoyed me about this gameplay section is that you can tell the person playing is controlling the camera in a nice smooth way, and pointing it around intentionally to give a cinematic feel. Even despite hiding the low framerate, there's something inauthentic about how that section was recorded. Obviously they are showing off the memorable parts and the new environments, but nobody plays like that! I want jerky camera movement, skittish, paranoid, corner checking schizo camera movement! Fuck you bloober!

Square jaw lady now makes sense. Sweet Baby Inc type company, Hit Detection is involved with the SH2 remake.

Fuck this shit, no buy for me

Lol I want to see what the new strip club looks like. Also they must have totally transitioned Eddie and are scared of showing him/her off yet for fear of obvious mockery. lol

Before this thread veers further into the SBI checks and character model arguments, I was wondering if anyone could answer this question (if anyone knows):

What exactly was different/added in the Xbox version of Silent Hill 2, and will that content be present in this version of the game?

can-anyone-give-me-the-reason-why-the-silent-hill-games-on-v0-61jd6qajlddc1.jpg

Born from a Wish Campaign.
It's basically PS2's Director's Cut
And that'll obviously be DLC

On Maria's outfit and general appearance I think the actress they got is perfect.
And they understood they had to keep the Butterfly 🦋 tattoo and put it is a silly place like her chest and it's pretty high too
Still her outfit is iconic and is part of the understanding of james.
It's literally a buttoned up cardigan and skirt and shows a little bit of midriff where her tattoo was.
And generally is actually a bit innocent in a way.
The fact they thought they had to change it is mind blowing.

I really wonder how the story is gonna go with all the new adjustments and changes. Going by the original story, this is looking pretty off...

If you've never played Silent Hill 2 and this doesn't pan out decently, I'd recommend checking out the enhanced edition mod on PC.

Little more Maria side story, an extra ending, some sound adjustments. Nothing too insane IMO.

SH2 on Xbox added a new scenario starring Maria, but that was added back to the PS2 version in its Director's Cut re-release. It also added 2 new endings I believe.

It also made some smaller technical changes like the flashlights are better, but also some things are worse like the FMV is now 30 FPS instead of 60.

*THIS* game is a complete remake, we don't know if it's going to have the Maria scenario in it or not at this point.

Ah, okay, I had always heard from a few fans that in terms of the original release that the PS2 version was better than the Xbox version (and apparently there were a few issues with the original PC version?) but I never knew the specifics.

It was strange that 2 and 4 came out on PS2 and Xbox, but 3 was PS2 exclusive in terms of consoles. I guess because it follows up on the story of 1 which was on PS1 and obviously not Xbox since the latter didn’t exist yet, they just assumed Xbox fans would be lost or something with the story even though obviously many of them likely had owned a PS1.

Fuck's sake, what happened here? The game looked so damn good in the announcement trailer.
I said it many times that this was always going to be the downgrade of the generation. It’s funny to go back to the reveal thread and see the regular graphic whores blaming the big name devs for being so far away from these outstanding graphics. “Just beautiful”.

Bloober are just a c-tier dev group nowhere near the big boys. They were never going to deliver on any front.

What is the definitive version of SH2 someone can play today without downloading an emulator to play?

I’ll stoke the flame for you guys.

The deluxe version is $80 and gives you 2 days early access to play.

if they want ugly characters we still have Eddie.
Eddie will be the most drastic change as they relate mostly with him
And he is played by this guy

That dumb dog really did deserve it, it barked homophobic and racist slurs

Fuck it, I'll admit it. This looks MUCH better.

James looks great, and his voice actor KILLED IT here. Laura is the most faithful and perfect of the bunch. Interior design looks fantastic, and changed enough to basically be a new game so that'll be fun. Maria looks great, but I'll need to see more scenes to see if she nails the "seductress" vibes. I thought Angela looked bad initially, but after seeing some other screenshots I'll chalk up how weird she looks in the graveyard to lighting. She looks great below, for example.

TBH, the voice acting in general nailed it. I like the modernized versions of their interactions. They keep the feel of the old convos while not sounding dated, which is an achievement.

My main complaint is how stiff the models move. James walks weird as shit and Angela moves like she's being puppeteered, which looks weird as hell. Fix this.

Combat looks good. Not great, but easily the best we've had in an SH game. I can rock with what I've seen.

Also, it is best to play the original PS2 version of Silent Hill 3. That way you can unlock the outfits.

The PC version does not have the outfits for some reason.

Honestly Angela is *supposed* to look strange. She is a young women, 19 years old - yet she is supposed to look like someone in their mid 30s. Plus the long neck sweater accentuates that strange disconnect.

Are you saying regular looking people dont have problems too? Jerk face!

Looks worse than I could ever imagine.
Absolutely disgusting.

If you've never played SH2 - and are still serious about trying the game - please do everything in your power to play the original.
The original will forever be one of the finest experiences of this gaming medium.
Don't let this remake taint that for yourself.
Every room change has a 10 second loading screen and there are hundreds of them in the game. The controls suck and the graphics aren't good. The voice work, music, and cutscene direction are top notch though.

Take those rose tinted glasses off cause this shit ass

The voice acting wouldn't even cut it in a favella shot porno
I replayed it plenty over the years and no, it's great stuff STILL. The delivery of the lines was inspired by things like Twin Peaks, the way everyone talks is how they're supposed to talk. I'll take this over hiring out of work A list actors these directors have a hard on for.

The voice acting was made to be off. There were multiple interviews with the actors and the director. The point was to make it feel uncanny, like something was off.

I don't think you understood SH2.

No it was really bad, nothing needed to understand. The Ambience, effects, and story was what made SH what it is.

Going into a cutscene where someone would reply to you in a cutscene 5 seconds after you last spoke was just laughable

The Nostalgia with SH games because of its lore and ambience will always be strong, but this new remake is looking decent so far

Its bloober so expect a 7 at best, hopefully 7.5

Born from a wish

Better lights and shadows but doesn't have volumetric fog even though it's still thick it just won't have the neat interactions of bending around gates and stuff. There's a gif of this.

Though in some ways I prefer the lights and shadows cause of how much time is indoors.

Yes. SH2 is intended to feel off. That is why the character models look weird.

The same with the other games in the series.

I feel people look at the OP to SH2 and think Angela was always hot. She looked quite... homely in many cutscenes throughout the game. Whether or not this was intentional as you learn more about her and how she views herself, changing her outward appearance? Well that I can't say definitively.

But personally, I never found her attractive from the outset. So I am not too bummed she looks off or stranger in this version.

I am worried though with the Hit Detection "consultancy" group. I was unaware of them when I had first preordered.

Oh and btw

The Room was a dam good SH game

Forget what the SH community thinks
No one ever said the room was bad, especially compared to what followed. Many of the complaints were around the weapon system and busted targeting but the story about how he was a sacrifice was praised.

Still hoping Xbox restarts the BC program and gets the OK from Konami and the OG Xbox versions of Silent Hill 2 and 4 BC which means it would get rendered in 4k.
