Except this wasn't hiding under anyone's nose. People were actively trying to figure it out and there was nothing to figure out. They literally activated it today and then it's just a dead end until they want us to do more. The mysterious stuff is exciting and I think The Black Spindle thing is cool by itself but this is being drawn out on purpose and totally deflated my excitement. If people want to sprint to the finish line let them.
It would be way more awesome to have this in the game from the beginning and let people figure it out on their own even if it's complicated riddles. They've gone overboard with the armsday/reset day time-gating. The First Curse, exotic swords, The Chaperone, etc...
The community came together for about 30 minutes to figure out some codes and before Bungie activated this there was a lot of wasted time by part of the community searching for it.
Yeah
THIS specific quest wasn't available without the switch being flipped.. but other stuff has been, or at least partially accessible, with clues right under our noses. I didn't mean the end rewards are available right now.
Wasted time? Half the fun of figuring this shit out is.. figuring this shit out. I understand you want everything laid out right in front of you with clear steps on how to get to each reward, but I just disagree with that approach. Strongly. Every game does that and Destiny already has plenty of it.
Personal preference, I much prefer this mysterious approach. Every little thing you come across in daily missions could be a clue for something else down the line and it has spawned tons of treasure hunter type groups dedicated to combing over this stuff every day. Go in there and tell them they are "wasting their time" doing what they do. I bet they'll disagree too.
Where I do agree with you is questlines that just say "ok now wait til Wednesday to progress any further." That kind of stuff sucks but isn't what I'm talking about here. I don't want the game telling me on day 1, "Hey if you do this daily mission on October 3rd, and instead of finishing the mission normal, you go this way and do this thing, you'll get this reward." Way more fun (for me) doing it this way.
