sadly no sign of H.E.R.B.I.E. in this one too :(

this is basically my only metric for what i'd consider a successful FF adaptation.

no H.E.R.B.I.E. no buy

The trailer is fairly solid if you allow yourself to forget that this is a Fantastic Four movie.

When I watch it, I think I will do so in that spirit.

And the hero shot at the end? If I had zero clue this was an FF movie, there would have been no doubt in my mind by then (assuming I know who the FF are). Especially with the clues beforehand. Any other vagueness before that can be chalked up to this being a teaser.

The final shot would have been the only time the thought "Is this a Fantastic Four movie?" would have crossed my mind.

^ Yeah that. I will give it the benefit of the doubt as far as first movies are concerned.

It does't look like Fantastic Four. :/

That said it does look interesting. I am cautiously optimistic. However "Fant4stic" is fucking terrible and whoever did that should feel bad.

Honestly, this trailer makes it feel like a film in the vein of Interstellar rather than a superhero film. I like that.

Influence can only go so far, I'm more annoyed that the teaser seems to be made for the broadest possible audience, it looks a lot like a Nolan movie instead of having its own identity. I need the next trailer to embrace the weirdness.

Trailer was decent. I've always been optimistic on this film and have never jumped on the "wish it would fail so it can go back to Marvel" bandwagon. I've always said that with Josh Trank, the cast and Kinberg coming off of X-Men: DOFP, this film has a chance of being good.

With this trailer, I'm still cautiously optimistic, but I have more faith in it.

Upside, inside out he's livin la vida loca, He'll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca
Looks ok, definitely better than I expected given the constant silence that surrounded the movie. My only complaint is that I didn't get a F4 vibe from the teaser at all, could've shown an original logo at the end and it'd have been the same.
Also, Fant4stic? Guess we are getting D00m as well...

In any case, I'm looking forward to the proper trailer before passing any more judgement.

Ehhh, it's a stretch but this might turn out to be pretty decent. Looks a little grim but I'll give it a shot.
I see what you did there.

So Doom's look is a direct result of his flesh melding with his suit, I think. The shot of the charred guy limping out of where that machine was is probably Doom. That would also explain the behind-the-scenes photo. Could be before he fully develops his look.
Looks like it, the dude on the bed at the end of the teaser does look like the leaked set pic.

What is this bullshit?
Marvel hate train, always right on time.

So Wallace is Human Torch, the drummer from Whiplash is Mr. Fantastic, The Granddaughter of the Giants owner is Sue Storm... who the hell is the thing?
A ballet dancer.

Undoubtedly true.
Wrong you mean.

Not a bad trailer but the actors are way too young.
Not really, the ages in the 2005 movie were:
Ioan Gruffudd, 31
Jessica Alba, 23
Chris Evans, 23
Michael Chiklis, 41

The current actors are
Miles Teller, 27
Kate Mara, 31
Michael B. Jordan, 27
Jamie Bell, 28

It's true though. Somehow managed to look more expensive than The Avengers.
Not even close.

wow, didn't know that FF started out as a manga.
My Big Sister Can't Be This Invisible.

I'm surprised to see the Marvel logo at the beginning of the trailer.
It's still a Marvel property, so it has to be there.

In its defence, the old FF films had hokey feel to them, light hearted and slightly campy ala Raimi's Spiderman. I don't think the market reacts well to those anymore. Its all about edge now
Not sure what you are getting at, since one of the most common complaints against the Marvel movies is that they feel like that unlike the TDK movies for example.

'From The Studio That Brought You' is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. I've seen producers and special effects teams used as 'From.....' but never before a studio.
Nah, it's pretty common.
There are worse though, one of the later Resident Evil movies piggybacked on Avatar and it was hilarious (it said something like "using the same 3D tech as" in a small font and then "James Cameron's Avatar" in fucking huge letters)

FTFY

Also, if this movie does end up sucking, this trailer will be looked back on as the best polishing of a turd ever.
Don't you remember the MoS trailers?
Man, I was so hopeful and excited :(

But bro, Disney/Marvel make the BEST comic book movies. What they do is allowed because the characters are WITH Marvel not Sony or Fox.

GOSH.

WHY DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THIS?!

I JUST WANT TO SEE DOOM FIGHT AVENGERS WHILE SPIDER-MAN WEB SLINGS HIS FACE AND MAKES A JOKE.
No, what I want is Annihilation (and Conquest) and thanks to the rights being in different places it ain't happening :(

I think we were all expecting this

That movie always kills me.

I think I'm calling it. Mahvel fanboys are absolutely the worst kind of fanboy on this forum, gaming side included, obviously.
No, there is far worse, like those no-fun-allowed ones that enjoy shitting threads with stuff like "I don't like stuff, so if you do you are WRONG" or similar.

You're trolling is transparent.
Pot calling the kettle black?

I guarantee if this was a Marvel Studios production people would be going crazy over the trailer.
Were you not here when the Ant-Man trailer released?

Well it isn't butt, so probably not.

To be honest, if you wanted a faithful adaption then go watch the 2000-era Fantastic 4 movies. You WILL love those if you love the comics. *wink wink nudge nudge*
Except those movies are not faithful at all.

I don't see the same insane level of obsession from Batman fans here. I have seen actual posters here claim the ONLY movies they will go see in theaters are all the Marvel Studios movies. The Marvel fanboys are the most rabid and in your face type fanboys here these days, no question. Literally even the smallest piece of Marvel Studios news gets it own thread.
Well, since a lot are "rabid" because people like to come and shit on the threads, if people that hated Marvel or the MCU or whatever simply avoided those threads about it then everyone would be happy.
Also, they get new threads because of "new news, new thread" and because they have more info released frequently. I expect that after the DCCU kicks off properly with BvS more of that will have several threads as well.

TASM2 is great. Electro was such a fun villain.
Nope, ASM2 was an unfocused mess, the only good things were the chemistry between the actors and how they totally nailed the way Spidey would move and fight.

Easy to forget since he's everywhere now, but Iron Man didn't have any more mindshare than the FF did until 2008.
This.

Which is a shame. I'm tired of the Mravel monopoly, even if it's not their intention, every studio jumping to have the new GoTG reminds me of all gaming studios sacrificing artistic integrity to make their own CoD. Hopefully the good reaction to this trailer stops Fox' stupid plans and remain with their original vision. Hell, DOFP's success should had done that.
I don't think you know what monopoly really means, I'll simply lol at the rest.

They're in the same ballpark.
Not objectively.

Said no one ever
*paging BobbyRoberts*

There are too many people who treat any movie not from "their side" with extreme hostility. It's like SNES vs Genesis all over again. But with old man children.
I hope you don't wander much over the gaming side, you'd be horrified.

That's a great gif "right click > save*

Meh, I'll keep an open mind. I kind of like that Fox is giving us Marvel movies that aren't of the Disney-Marvel flavor, it keeps the films from becoming too predictable. Also, I'm not a subscriber to the belief that it just ain't a Marvel movie if people aren't making wisecracks in the trailers. Just because there's no humor in the trailer doesn't mean there's no humor in the film.
The Iron Man 3 trailers didn't have a single joke in them.

Why isn't Sue black, you mean? Because too many black leads makes it a "black movie," and then white people might not want to see it.

This is actually how Hollywood thinks.
Which is too depressing :(

man that guy was a jackass
i-understood-that-reference.gif

That chick is devoid of life.
Eh, she's good, but to be honest I prefer Rooney a bit more.

There's actual good use of framing, lighting and coloring in it.
You sure about the bolded?

I wasn't expecting much, but it's pretty funny how that trailer was better than both Avengers 2 and the Ant-Man trailers.

I love seeing the inability for internet haters to eat crow on it.
It definitely is not better than the AoU teaser or trailer.

Irritates me to no end they can still use the Marvel logo. Because people will just assume this is related to The Avengers and go pay money for it.
It's not a "can use" but rather "have to", it is a Marvel property after all.

I have absolutely no faith in this and I'm so damn tired of origin stories in superhero movies, but the trailer was good.

I'm surprised. It looks nice it's wonderfully shot.

And it looks actually interesting.

This is far far better than Ant-man or Avengers 2nd trailer.

And it's different than the awful 2000's movies.

Making the Fantastic Four grimdark is a mistake, we're talking about a comic that has a rubber guy and a pile of rocks that punches things and has a catch phrase. Feel like this is going to be really awkward.

disfigured, yes. the exact nature of the injury tends to vary from writer/artist but yeah. i'm no slayven but i'm somewhat sure they've never actually shown his full face before.

There's a joke in The Superior Foes of Spider-Man about there being a painting of his real face and everyone wants it.

Reed's costume is confusing given his power. Looks like a straight jacket.

If Reed has little to no control over his power at first, and his body is just basically turning into a puddle of rubber, the suit is probably designed to keep him intact. In which case, making it like a straight jacket makes sense.

Honestly, this trailer makes it feel like a film in the vein of Interstellar rather than a superhero film. I like that.

I think this is also how the comic/superhero film genre is going to stop itself from dying out or having its bubble burst. Make genre based films that happen to have superheroes in them. For example Captain America 2 is a political action triller and Man of Steel is an alien invasion scifi story.IF they do that and vary the type of films that are made we all win I think.

In all honestly, Victor could get any girl he wanted. He's rather handsome, has a badass scar, & runs a country.

I'm surprised at how well-shot this trailer is. There are a lot of shots in that that look like they're straight out of a Nolan/Peter Jackson film.

The cast looks great too, although I'm not a big Mara fan. Overall, it's a bad trailer for a Fantastic Four movie, but the quality of the shots gives me hope.

I don't understand why every superhero movie has to be either ultra-lighthearted or extremely somber. Hopefully this one will balance out. Maybe I'm wrong in that assessment, but that's how it feels. I can't tell if GAF likes this trailer because it's well-shot or because of the somber tone or both, but I've never understood how a somber tone makes a superhero movie exciting or more likely to be a good movie.

There are also a lot of filler shots in the trailer that almost feel like a parody. Lots of landscapes, an airplane, and a truck in a cornfield. None of that screams Fantastic Four to me, but whatever.

I think I'm calling it. Mahvel fanboys are absolutely the worst kind of fanboy on this forum, gaming side included, obviously.

the marvel shitposters that litter every marvel thread are worse.

"uhh looks better than anything marvel studios puts out hurr durr"
" all MCU movies are boring and formulaic har har"
now THAT shit is fucking annoying

I actually... don't think it looks terrible. Then again, I don't know a who lot about the F4 comics, so I can't speak to it's adherance the source material, but it doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would. But this is only a teaser, so it could still turn out shitty.
