Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII (Steam) releases December 10th, supports 60 FPS

Sadly 60fps won't fix the game's other problems which is pretty much everything else aside from the battle system.

Nice. So is the game crap?
I'm asking honestly, because:

-I HATED every single moment of FFXIII
-I found XIII-2 much better than XIII, but still nothing extraordinary (let's say a 7 out of 10, being generous)

I played all FF games (excluding mmorpgs like XI and XIV), if it's indicative, and I pretty much liked all of them, IV-VI-VII and VIIII are my favourite ones.

This is great and all but when is this :

happening?

Who needs to say anything about fake things from last year?

I enjoyed this game the most in the XIII trilogy but I think I'm in the minority...

It was simply the most fun to actually play.

It's my favorite, too (and the only one I'm gonna bother to replay on PC). Combat's great and all the gameplay systems come together really well. I would've loved to see a game like it on more than a shoestring budget.

I bought XIII-2 on PC when it went on sale and have never even launched it since XIII supported 60FPS.....45.....60...32....60....48.....60. It was nauseating. I hope they got a handle on whatever was wrong with the first game and supposedly the second to cause such variance of FPS while my CPU and GPU were not being taxed whatsoever.

Will buy, though might not be until later as I already have and thoroughly played on 360. As with the other two, will be nice just to revisit at casual pace on PC, get nice screenshots, etc.

Poor story, annoying/boring/poor quest design (leveling is tied to doing quests only, which are tied to time of day/the time system is garbage). Visually and technically the game was a mess as well. The battle system and music are the game's only redeeming features.

Sounds like a solid $20 or less game.

Finally.

Well I wont be buying this anytime soon since I have it on PS3 and will be playing that.

Hopefully by that time any issues the game will have when released - will be fixed for the most part lol.

Strongly disagree here. I really liked the quest/leveling system. Really the only poor part about the game was the main story. And yeah you can tell the budget wasn't up to the previous titles but it hardly gets in the way.

This trailer reminded me so much of how good of a character Lightning is, compared to the likes of Noctis and crew from XV, and this is from the worst game in the trilogy. Square needs to bring her back, or move on to XVI already. Not sure if I could stand another one or two games with these characters. x_x

Pretty much. I really wanted to enjoy the combat, but with the leveling being tied to quests, I ended up avoiding battles whenever I could.

Never did finish this one and I don't think I'll ever bother.

Sounds like a Bethesda game lol.

Except for the battle system of course.

Not gaining EXP from battles was a huge mistake, imo. Made battles really tedious after a while.

wait till the game is out before buying, we don't know how the port is going run

DING DING DING DING DING DING.

Only reasonable answer. Got burned twice. Won't get fooled again, Square.

I would say its the worst part of the game, easily. It just felt like you were never progressing, and made battles kinda boring and pointless, even if the battle system on itself is great. There is no reward to that most of the time.

So like the other 2 games. lol

Eh, I found that between quests (for item collection and whatnot else) and ability drops that I usually had reason to fight battles. The system wasn't perfect, but I thought it helped the various systems snowball with each other and encouraged some form of progress vs grinding to level.

Again, I think budget and polish time would've been all that was needed to get everything together better.

Edit: And the game was far from going Full Majora's Mask, so the time of day restrictions didn't bother me at all. It was one of those things that you really thought you had to manage at first, but then discovered you had more than enough time to easily do everything.

Sweet, gonna do this.
how much is it?
I see it only for 20... is there a code?
It's 15.99€ (19.99$) without the voucher. With the voucher INDEED-INDEED-INDEED you can save 20% (3.19 €) and buy it at 12.80€ (around 16$ I guess).

You can also wait a few more days and I think GMG will give everyone a 23/25% voucher code (they did that with XIII and XIII-2) but you won't save much more.

Isn't gmg in trouble for reselling keys? or was that another website?

Hi brau, nice to hear from you again. I can't wait to see some screenshot from you :P. Green Man Gaming is totally fine, I bought every FINAL FANTASY game released on Steam from it and it's perfectly fine.

If you guys want you can also use this referral link which will put 2€ in your GMG account after the purchase (in case you want to do more purchases on GMG in the future).

Edit: Please note that GMG will not give you a key instantly. You will receive an email from GMG containing the key on December 10th few hours before the game's launch.

Only game in the trilogy I would never replay. Sure, the battle system was good but the game itself was a chore. Uninteresting NPC's, uninteresting quests, atrocious plot (worse than XIII-2... yes, that's possible). And I agree with Kagari, the decision to tie stat upgrades to completing quests was very stupid.

HEY! :) You bet i will spam the thread once is dead with screenies. Its gonna be awesome.

Fun game, PC folks will like this.

I'm a little confused though, you would think Square would show off the 60fps gameplay by making the video 1080p60 on YouTube...

I don't see that option available.

I hope we'll get whole gen of XV just to see you suffer :P.

This is horrible. So what's the point on doing battles, now?
I'm not a fan of grinding, but what prevents me to skip all battles in LR if they don't reward me ?

The only FF from the XIII trilogy that I never played to completion. Should be interesting to see how it fares on PC.

I heard the port was almost canned at one point so I'm curious to see what they managed to pull together after nearly 2 years.
At this point, I am certain they are now bringing the whole trilogy as HD remaster to PS4/XBO.

Where is my FFVII PS4 port?
