Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII (Steam) releases December 10th, supports 60 FPS

Glad to see the Cloud costume... I missed the classic fanfair in the 13 series.

I would always try to finish battles with that on just for the victory fanfair

The only thing that I wonder is why they didn't include Aerith's costume. I mean, Cloud's costume is there so it's not some kind of licensing with Sony about FFVII Remake.

Maybe it's some kind of licensing with Sony regarding FFX / X-2 HD? I was hoping to see those 2 games on Steam too :(.

Edit: I got confused while writing this message, please ignore this and read the posts below.

What do you mean? X/X-2 costumes are here, Aerith is from FFVII.

Maybe Aerith doesn't exist anymore in VIIR and she will be replaced by Lightning :D

If that was the case surely we wouldn't be getting Yuna's costumes either.

Nice. So is the game crap?
I'm asking honestly, because:

-I HATED every single moment of FFXIII
-I found XIII-2 much better than XIII, but still nothing extraordinary (let's say a 7 out of 10, being generous)

I played all FF games (excluding mmorpgs like XI and XIV), if it's indicative, and I pretty much liked all of them, IV-VI-VII and VIIII are my favourite ones.

Are you in for a gameplay-based romp, and treating every plotline as unintentional comedy?
If so, go ahead. Great game.
If you want to take the plot seriously....
...
...

Just go play XIV, you fool

In case you were wondering you can also see the game's hotkey from the manual published on Steam.

Edit: it's hard to say from just one manual page but I fear that the battle system will be even harder than Type-0 for the keyboard + mouse users. I fear that the keys to use spells during the battle are "ENTER", "BACKSPACE", "." and "M" (plus "E" and "U" to change schemata).

Also you should notice that the key "ESC" this time will open the pause menu so it means that you won't get an exit popup like in XIII and XIII-2, it should actually be decent this time.

It also looks like there is a way to change keyboard controls this time since there is a "Restore default keys" option.

about gucking time

I gotta say that Lightning Returns has one of my favorite final boss fights in the FF series. Visually stunning and has an epic multi-tiered theme that changes as the fight progresses. I think it goes out with a bang. I even liked the ending CG, but I know people like to focus on that
France
bit.

Oh, this is great!

I've played FFXIII (loved it) and FFXIII-2 (hated it, but still played it until the end for ~70 hours ^_^) on the Xbox 360, but then I sold the console and bought a Wii U. Looks like I'll finally be able to play the final FFXIII game.

...

Wait, Xenoblade X is coming on the 4th... well, I'll get it sometime in 2016 for sure -- if it actually runs on my laptop. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to PC specs, so the system requirements have me confused... will this thing run on my i5 4210U 1,7 GHz laptop with 6 GB and a GeForce 840M?

A GeForce 840M should be enough for the game but it only depends if they did a good port or a bad one like XIII-2.

I have a worse graphic card than yours and XIII runs really well but XIII-2 runs at ~25-30fps. In my case the games run best on Win 8.1 and slightly worse on Win10 and Win7, it may be just a driver thing though.

Edit:
So how long until some enterprising modder makes a time manipulation mod?
It shouldn't take long for a Cheat Engine table to appear after the game's release, don't worry. I'm sure some people will get the game and just work on cheat engine tables and mods

Finally! :) I'm really happy this is finally coming to PC, as it's the only one of the trilogy I've never played extensively.

Will buy without any hesitation.

Well, I'll buy it because I'm curious about the game. I don't expect them to have fixed the framerate inconsistency issues, but luckily they weren't too bad on my system.

25 fps is already fine for me. Thanks!

FFXIII-2 lists X-Input controller support the same way this game does. XIII-2 does not work with the XB1 controller, so I'm a bit pessimistic that this will.

And bought, I now own the trilogy without finishing any of them. I'll get down to it when I finish Fallout 4 and Tralis in the sky: Second Chapter.

So next year

Played XIII but not -2.

Can I jump straight into this one?
To be honest, it depends on you. Some people completely ignore the story in Lightning Returns and play the game only for the battle system.

May I ask if the game will automatically support GeDoSaTo from the launch day or will you have to make a special plugin or something?

Glad I could help you! Have fun.

That's strange, my controller works perfectly with both XIII and XIII-2. I'm currently using an XB1 Elite Controller with them without any issues whatsoever.

I absolutely loved Lightning Returns. The atmosphere, gameplay and soundtrack won me over big time. I wouldn't praise the story exactly, but I thought certain aspects were kinda neat and I found a pretty cool hero/villain dynamic in it and it reminded me of Lost in some ways.

A very cool and unique RPG that was rough around the edges.

About time. Grabbed on GMG since SE didn't put it up for preorder on Steam. 12,80€ for it with the voucher discount seems like cheap enough.
I was hoping for some texture rework while they were at it, but I expect it to be a 1:1 with with the console versions. Just have the framerate and framepacing not be fucked up this time SE, pretty please.

Fun battle system and good soundtrack is enough for me to enjoy a game.

I can't preorder this after the previous ports. XIII was a mess, I still haven't picked up XIII-2 because I haven't seen it discounted much and the port is apparently not much better. Will probably pick it up once it's $10 or less.

What do you mean it's not up for preorder on Steam? You can buy it on Steam right here (but on GMG you save 20%).

FINALLY AHHHHHHH

Seriously. I've been waiting for this for a long time. I am so excited to play this on PC, with hopefully better performance than the PS3.

I managed to play through XIII and XIII-2 on PC at 60FPS, so I hope the trend holds here.

Doesn't work with mine either (Win 10, updated firmware, latest drivers, neither wireless or wired work). You have to hold both triggers and then it works...sort of. I accidentally deleted one of my saves when trying to get the buttons to respond, which was lovely. I'm not sure what's wrong because every other game works fine with this controller and so far I can't fix it.

No mention of anymore patches for FFXIII? Things practically unplayable on my system with it's horrid framerate.

As someone who thought FFXIII was okay and didn't bother to play FFXIII-2, I freaking love Lightning Returns, and playing it at 60 FPS would be a dream considering how garbage it ran on consoles.

This thing is weird though:
It is not possible to change the names assigned to chocobos, map markers or schemata.

That's a weird change. I actually liked coming up with different names for my outfits and stuff (Velvet Bouncer Lightning will always be "Saints Row" to me). I wonder why they have to change it for the PC release.

I notice on Steam Lightning Returns has subtitles ticked for every version despite which region you're in. That means there will probably be a single version for all regions, unlike the two predecessor games that divided to Asia and Rest of the World.

I hope they'll enable all language subtitles for FF13 and FF13-2.

That's a really disappointing change. Seems so pointless.
Unless they didn't want people using profanity in the names then uploading clips.

Nah, still pointless.

I have XIII-2 for PS3 unopened. Should I just buy and play the Steam version instead or there's not much difference?

Steam version has (most of) the DLC so I'd play that. It's also balanced better in that you can't play the
Lightning
chapter at the beginning of the game and curb stomp everything afterwards.

There really should be a disclaimer in the OP about the frame rate considering what it was like for the previous two

Type 0 got a 20% off, so let's hope for the same discount.

Thanks for remembering me about Type-0.

I wonder what HexaDrive is doing because the game has 2 testing branches that are updated from time to time and now SteamDB says that there is a DLC for Type-0 (Last updated on October 7)?

Is it 1080p and higher also though?

Very likely, yes.

They'll probably make a launcher like XIII/XIII-2 where you can change resolution, anti-aliasing and shadows settings.

I don't expect a launcher with detailed settings like in Type-0.
