The latest Ascension expansion was finally released so I went and picked it up
I've only played two games, a two player and four player game. The expansion adds some interesting new cards, but I think it feels a bit lacking on its own. There seems to be a much smaller amount of "draw a card" or "banish a card" cards, so you end up with Militia and Apprentices sitting in your deck longer than you really want them to.
I haven't done it yet, but I think combining it with the first expansion, "Return of the Fallen", would make for a very fun game.
Here's a picture of the game set up, just two players. You can see the new game board along with the new always-available monster, the Fanatic and the new Event cards in effect on the opposite side of the board. The quality is a little low, but you might be able to make out the new Mystic and Heavy Infantry art. There is also new art for the Apprentice and Militia, which I appreciate. It's a nice touch.
Also, latest Edge. Love this months cover, very classy. I've only read the guest columns and the article on Mojang so far.
And I picked up the Masks of Nyarlathotep campaign book for the Call of Cthulhu RPG. Started running it for my game group and we're about two sessions in. First session was great, the second a bit lackluster as they stumbled around following the wrong leads. I look forward to getting really stuck into it. Also pictured is the 30th Anniversary hardcover edition of the core rulebook. I've had this for a while, but I thought Gaf might appreciate it. It's gorgeous.
