STARFIELD |OT| 2023: A Space Toddity

MagiusNecros

Gilgamesh Fan Annoyance
All of the faction campaign's have been quite good. I've completed UC, Crimson Fleet.

Gonna tackle Freestar next and then Ryujin.

Main quest is just ok IMO. Can't say I cared too much about it. I think my favorite quest due to the intrigue is "Entangled".

I really like exploring all the points of interest and getting a story told by the environment. Especially with Derelict ships. Not going to say much but the Derelict in the Schrodinger system is probably my favorite.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
This Magshot is good for shooting people in the face from medium to close range. Ammo is kind of rare. I think I've only picked it up in the field once. Gun shop in Akila sells it.

This is my primary assault rifle at the moment.

Good power, good for short / medium range and heavily modded to improve accuracy etc.

This is my secondary. Medium / Long range electric assault rifle with scope.

Btw there are these creatures called hunting stonewalkers on cassiopeia, and they are fucking strong as hell; I went there to survey the planet and it's the first time in ~55 hours I've died in the game, multiple times even.

Finally found out how to get crew mates at outposts. You need a crew station. And now that I have a place for my crew, they appear to have ran off on me. Lin and Heller are gone and I am not seeing them where I found them. If anybody knows where to look for them, please let me know.

I want Marco's ship. I am still flying in the original ship. I didn't see a way to improve on it. Are you not able to modify it?

I wish I had more time to play this game. It is so much fun.

I cant stress enough how cool.and how essential the outpost stuff is if you want to capitalize on the space exploration fantasy. I have been low on Aluminum the whole game. Finally set up a full outpost and left this morning. Came back and its already at 80.

Infinite crafting and you can create supply paths linking it all together. Or just sell it all and get rich.
Okay time to start building! I haven’t even touched that gameplay mechanic yet.

Question.

Does doing one side quest line with a faction prevent me from doing someone else’s down the road, or can I complete all factions quests in a single playthrough?

I was planning getting into base building, but somehow I ended up working on boosting my Astrodynamics and Piloting skills. I've been grav jumping all over the place and had a bunch of cool random experiences with creepy abandoned space crafts, dogfights, weirdos salesman, etc.. Got a distress call from a research base on a planet and it turned into over an hour quest that's been pretty solid so far.

I found a cool suit that reduces the weight of weapons by 50% that I'm wear along with my boosted O2 helmet. That's really helpful since I like to loot guns and sell them.

The astronaut look with the Novalight pistol is nice. Totally NASA-punk, or whatever you wanna call it...

Since melee sucks, I’m just going to be a space explorer. It’s so fun and relaxing just jetting around the surface scanning shit. Maybe I will survey every possible planet.

I am yet to run into one of the walls blocking me from going further on a planet. How big exactly are these?

Also it’s very cool how even when you’re just exploring and thinking you might be the only human alive, the game throws you a curveball. Was on a planet where every location was deserted and there are biologist bodies near every location, I stroll into a random cave and there are more dead people but then one dude alive. I get a mission to escort him to his ship and he leaves.

Get into outposts. Its the next natural extension from scanning and exploration and fits in that gameplay loop so well. You scan, explore, then pick the most valuable resources and set up an extractor, fuel source, various manufacturing and even supply lines.

The problem is you dont really need the resources for much. I think the outposts are a real missed opportunity, they could have made so much more of them, but you can easily play the entire game without building a single one. Would have been cool if they fed into the core game mechanics more and supplemented your life as an explorer, but they dont add much to the game at all. I enjoy building and decorating them so they arent useless to me but they really dont add much to the game aside from being another little time sink.

If building outposts would be part of the main game, people would complain as well. Just like they did with Fallout 4.

Is anyone changing companions for each faction/activity they do? I maxed out Sarah so I'm thinking of taking Andreja out with me for Crimson or Ryujin.

Is it just me, or are the board games you find around the galaxy a reference to Fifth Element? Some game pieces that looks just like Fifth Elements water, fire, earth and wind bricks.

This game is gonna kill me, started playing today with a specific goal to complete a mission. Got sidetracked and followed a thread to a whole other quest line - didn’t even touch what I was planning to do.

The environmental storytelling is on another level - plus I had no idea you could pick up objects in the world and not just drop them but throw them using x… the whole thing feels extremely immersive and interactive - even just the Non-main npcs responding to you when you try to talk to them — it’s everything I wish cyberpunk had in that regard.

Once I stopped trying to rush through everything like a checklist it became way better - I wish I still smoked weed cus I bet it’s incredible when high.

This is probably game of the year for me - and ultimately I think it’s low-key shaping up to be Bethesdas best game. it’s a heavily flawed masterpiece that is unlike anything I’ve ever played.

Don’t read if you’re among the modern audience

Where is the fan service?! The one thing that I can see holding back this game from going near a 10 for me is that there are no hot body ladies anywhere. 50+ hours played and so many planets and cities visited and all I see is these boring norm bodies everywhere. And no I don’t count going into photo mode to tweak with the perspective to get Sarah to have a booty when she leans over a table. So boring. I hope modders can do something here because Bethesda stumbled here on a galactic scale.
Yeah I know I’m a terrible and shallow sleezebag yada-yada-yada heard it all before don’t care it’s a game pfff! Bah!

Do you get money out of it or is it entirely for show?

Sorry for asking, am just 5 hrs in. Not feeling like doing anything in the game really. Just walking around on moon, Venus etc. Jumping and climbing terrain, Scanning stuff if new. Taking it slow for now.

I read somewhere that I should continue the main quest until a certain point, for the game to truly open up.
Is this true and if so, where should I stop and start doing the side quests?

Yes, I want more hot chicks with nice tits and ass in the game. Mass Effect had a good mix.

Just do whatever you feel like.

If you find it to be too slow or meandering, switch to main quest. It will pick up the pace nicely. After a couple, switch to side quests.

Is there a point of no return on the main story? Do you get any clear hints that things will wrap up?
I’m worried that I’ll finish it if I do more quests since I’ve progressed quite far, haven’t been spoiled on NG+ but I think I know what it’s about and not sure I want to do that yet.

Dude am 5 hrs in the game, just chilling out on our moon.

Why is Sarah such a bitch? I got attacked in space and she got mad that I killed them?
After that I persuaded her to stay and we went to a planet where I again got attacked and she got mad again.
The fuck did I even do lol.
Ditch her ass, and bring andreja or vasco, the only 2 companions who don't make a fuss over everything.

An hour and a half in, sensing the potential this could be amazing but definitely not hooked.

Also, random rant, what is it with game devs and fucking lazy lock picking explanations? This and Hogwarts didn't explain shit.

Fun fact:

The voice actress who plays Sarah Morgan looks more like Andreja in real life and vice versa.

Cissy Jones, voice of Andreja.

Lol bethesda is even worse than sony when it comes to face scan of beatiful girls...

But in bethesda case i'm pretty sure that it's just a tech reason...

Just casually put 6hrs in today, which I almost never do when gaming, and I wanted to keep
Playing but was getting “the look”
From the wife. Starfield is straight up amazing!! I’m about 18hrs in and it keeps drawing me in further and further. I’m thinking about it right now and planning my next adventures. Just been mostly focusing on side content, barely scratched the surface of the campaign or the game for that matter.

Is it me or is Sarah Morgan modelled / inspired by actress Emilia Clarke? Not 25 year old Emilia from Game of Thrones but a 40 year old version of her?

Didn't see it in the promotional material of the game leading up to release but after playing it, Sarah reminds me so much of Clarke. Even her butt is modelled like Clarke lol (imo)

I hear you! I've gotten dupes myself, but I suppose that can't be helped with a game trying to convey a galaxy.

I wish these locations would utilise procedural generation as well. They have few very cool styles (mine, cry lab, etc.) but for example every cry lab is the same, down to item/loot placement.

I agree making these locations procedural would have really added to the discovery aspect.
But once you've discovered one then you've seen them all.
I honestly don't get some of the decisions made with this game.
