Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII (Steam) releases December 10th, supports 60 FPS

Well they "appropriated" Durante's fixes and implemented them into the launcher for the games, but they never fixed the god awful frame pacing.
That's correct.

They tried in one patch for XIII-2 that improved the framerate for a small group of people but the main problems are still there.

They'll probably make a launcher like XIII/XIII-2 where you can change resolution, anti-aliasing and shadows settings.

I don't expect a launcher with detailed settings like in Type-0.

Considering they list partial controller support in the store page, a launcher is indeed given.

First thing people should do is mod out the timer / get infinite Chronostasis. Maybe also program a shortcut button on the controller to use Chronostasis for convenience.

The battle system is amazing. Music is nice. Everything else is crap. Definitely worth playing though, even if is only to experience the combat.

Yeah, the timer didn't really add much pleasure to the game for me. But damn was the combat fun as hell (more so after you get faster ATB recovery and unlock more skills).

Cool. Been wanting to check this out. Heard some good things about the gameplay, and at the end of day, gameplay is ultimately what matters for me.

Hopefully by supporting 60 FPS they mean more than "some scenes with be 60 and then random things will cap the game down to 30 FPS despite the game using like 7 percent of your GPU and CPU" like the other two.

Given how the game gives out extra time like it's going out of fashion, this is ultimately unnecessary.

I feel way too anxious whenever there is a timer of some sorts. Doesn't matter if the time available is enough or not. Some people may be okay with it, but I recommend getting it modded out.

People make waaaay too big of a deal out of the time limit. Especially with how easy it is to spam Chronostasis.

It's there simply for narrative framing and to package the game as (comparative to most games in the series) being lighter on content and higher on replay value. It's super easy to do everything on your first playthrough and have days and days leftover.

Yeah, if you're always trying to reach 1 of the many goals, you can easily do every sidequest and still have 50% of the time to spend on hotels to get to the 13th day.

wat? WHY? What happens if I was playing in offline mode? :/

Probably nothing. Being offline doesn't disable Steam Cloud; all the APIs used by the game still work, the cloud still works, it just won't sync. What I don't understand is why it *needs* to be enabled. The other two games in the series even save to a completely different directory when you disable it, so...

ANYWAY! Bad performance or not, I'm super hyped to be finally playing this. I liked the other two games, and I found some charm in the batshit insane story.
MUMS R TUFF included.

Doesn't work with mine either (Win 10, updated firmware, latest drivers, neither wireless or wired work). You have to hold both triggers and then it works...sort of. I accidentally deleted one of my saves when trying to get the buttons to respond, which was lovely. I'm not sure what's wrong because every other game works fine with this controller and so far I can't fix it.

This could be fixed by installing the older drivers (the ones used for Windows 7 and 8). The drivers bundled with Windows 10 changed the way the triggers are mapped in DirectInput.
I'd get you a link, but they were removed from Major Nelson's blog :(

That's a weird change. I actually liked coming up with different names for my outfits and stuff (Velvet Bouncer Lightning will always be "Saints Row" to me). I wonder why they have to change it for the PC release.

Were they using the PS3 / Xbox 360's virtual keyboards? Given how barebones these ports are, maybe that could explain it.

FFXIII-2 lists X-Input controller support the same way this game does. XIII-2 does not work with the XB1 controller, so I'm a bit pessimistic that this will.

I got curious and installed the game and yup, I seem to having this issue as well. I can go to setting, watch the credits and pick a new game and it all works fine, but as soon as a text popup like the one confirming the difficulty level pops, nothing works. Or like loading a saved game doesn't work. It's weird.

From quick googling it seems like a solution was to install a different controller driver and it would work, but that doesn't work if you use the wireless receiver.

This trailer reminded me so much of how good of a character Lightning is, compared to the likes of Noctis and crew from XV, and this is from the worst game in the trilogy. Square needs to bring her back, or move on to XVI already. Not sure if I could stand another one or two games with these characters. x_x

Uh...okay. Don't know why you felt the need to bash FFXV and it's characters in this thread. Especially considering you haven't even played the full game yet and have not fully experienced the characters and stories of FFXV's world.

I dunno what happened to my i5 4460 + 16g ram + evga 750ti oc but it just wont run ff13-2 even in the lowest settings on 720p without constant framedrops. wont buy this again...

There was also the other thread recently (forget which one) completely unrelated to FF that someone tried derailing into mocking Nomura's original Versus lol.

People are very unstable about that game. Be it to mock or to defend it.

For better or for worse, that review thread is going to be a beast lol

Anyway, I was looking at a few videos, and sometimes Lightning seems to walk around the stage a bit, but most of the time she just stands there.
Can you move her in battle? Does the analog stick do anything?

It allows you to slow walk.

Seems like they wanted to let you close or open distances, but didn't want the player to be able to just dodge and stuff without using the combat system abilities.

Hmm =X

They should have just made attacks track you then >.>

I thought it would be useful, since it seems like you can cut parts of the enemies bodies.

Might not be as useful as I was thinking after all. At least you can move I guess.

Wow, wtf? Mashing the left trigger seems to eventually unstuck the problematic menus.

Lightning is Iconic.

This is the only one i havent played yet and will gladly buy it for 19.99. I can only hope the port isnt complete garbage and is at least a solid 30fps. The first two ports have been problematic but thanks to Durante they have been made at least playable, and certainly the best theyve ever looked. One day ill go through them all in some epic playthrough

I'll buy Returns for Steam. I dont really see a need to 2X dip for XIII-2 since A.) i've got the special edition for PS3 (best special edition Square has done for us, even better than Heavensward) and B.) i'm assuming PC performance for XIII-2 PC is still bad?

While I'm not sure if I would actually replay this game, it'd be tempting to see how well it runs on the PC. It was a decent game with fun battles, so-so open world, meh story, good music, etc. But really, the gameplay is where it truly shines (lots of good customization, too). I hate time limits in games, but it wasn't too bad here. I had several days left over by the end after doing all the sidequests in the game. I'd still enjoy a mod that lets you remove the timer completely, though. Or at least have infinite chronostasis (more so than you already get lol).

It's a pretty easy Platinum to get, too. Probably easier than the other XIII games.

I was waiting for you to say something! You're still alive after they made you wait so long :)?
I'm struggling to stay alive but I manage!
In the next three weeks I'm gonna see you get really hyped, then on release day really disappointed about the performance

I don't want this to happen to you for a third time Yoshi
DISAPPOINTMENT SHAN'T HAPPEN, IT WON'T HAPPEN I TELL YOU!!!

So what are the chances FF15 comes to PC? will the sales of the lightning trilogy affect its chances?

With Dragon Quest Heroes and Lightning Trilogy all coming to PC, I am sure you can expect SE to do an effort to recoup the immense development costs of FFXV by getting on as many platforms as possible.

Lightning is Iconic.

Truly.

Japan is lucky. They get to play as her in Dissidia in Nov and LR again in Dec.

Good port or not the game is undercooked, but as many have said the battle system and music is wonderful.

The quests are important not just for stat growth and rewards but they show show both serious and funny moments from both the NPCs and Light.

Enjoy Trolliyama's bizarre adventure

LR is the only one that I feel that I need to play on PC. The xbox version was fine but LR was framey as fuck and textures were shit.

Can't wait for this game.

I hope the other XIII games go on sale once it releases. I've been wanting to play them but I already bought the first XIII on PS3 and now I want to play it on PC.

In any case, awesome that this game is coming out soon, and seeing that its 60FPS I'm sure will make a lot of people happy. They seem to be paying attention to all the criticism they're getting.

Sadly, I don't see any indication of this yet. FF13 and 13-2 also "supported" 60 FPS.

Not only slow-walk, you can also use some spells to reposition yourself, it's useful against some enemies. But for the most part, you're right.

Oh, I see.
Well, Type 0 HD happened, and while it was very much 30FPS locked, it was still a big improvement over the XIII releases from what I can tell. One of the biggest issue with its on launch release, the camera controls, have been fixed too and now its genuinely playable with keyboard and mouse.

Notes:
It is not possible to change the names assigned to chocobos, map markers or schemata.

Wait, what? Was it like this in the PS3 version?
I remember having custom names for my three different "forms" in battle.

What a bizarre removal.

Impressive. Since FFXV has been changed to only playable Noctis, I would much rather have LR's combat than what we're getting with FFXV. Unless the AI customization of FFXV is indeed as complex and tactical as that of Gambit of FFXII.

I really believe FFVIIR's battle-system will be a mix of LR and FFX-2 somehow.
