League of Legends |OT13| Diamond is Unreachable

i disagree on both accounts
Well good thing you're not in charge of the loot system then!

The big issue is that you seem to disagree simply on the fact that people mismanage their funds and buy too many chests/keys, as if Riot is inadvertently forcing the system on to them. People have their own free will, they can spend their money as they see fit.

I've actually pulled good stuff from boxes. Maybe I should buy keys just so I don't have to look at the twenty box stack anymore, because it won't go down no matter how much I play.

Don't play Lee

Just trust me on this

Sona is really fun and will teach you how to position yourself since she doesn't have escape and is really squishy

yeah where would we be without all those brand and xin zhao skin shards
I'm sure there are plenty of people who like playing brand and xin. Additionally, you can reroll 3 shitty ones into a random free skin or break them down into essence to unlock ones you want. Ultimately, I have no idea how you see it as a bad thing, it went from never getting any free skins or champs to occasionally getting some. Not to mention there has been gambling in the game before loot boxes in the form of buying mystery skins or champs.

Riot has significantly expanded throughout the years.

The lootbox system is great, I'd much rather have the game with it than without it. If someone has a bad gambling problem, that's not Riot's fault.

It's like how breweries aren't liable for alcoholics.

Personally I don't think you get enough keys/lootboxes per season for them to be effective skinner boxes. You're basically rolling for a chance to get a champ, skin, or ward skin. And from there you need to open more boxes to get the materials to maybe turn that into a real thing. To me, at least, there isn't enough of a 'gratification' from the lootboxes to trigger that exploitable itch.

Though I quoted this partly because I disagree slightly. If you have a game played potentially by kids and you have an exploitative gambling-type situation that totally is the company's fault. The correct answer probably lies somewhere in the middle of 'company should do more' and 'people should be more responsible'.

They just need to ditch the lootbox exclusive skins.
This is the one thing about the system that I think is completely bullshit

Overwatch got a buttload of flack for this shit but somehow it feels like people in League don't really care. I've been opening boxes for two seasons now and I've yet to see a gem.

I've been playing for 2 months and I got 3 gem, from like 7 boxes. Are they even worth keeping? I always exchanget hem for more boxes and keys.

Miss Fortune is really fun if you like melting entire teams with a single ability. She's also fairly easy to play.

What skins are there other than Annie?

I'm sure if a Riven/Yas/Zed/Vayne skin was affected there would be uproar.

10 gems = one exclusive skin that you can't buy from the store.

Soulstealer Vayne
Space Marine Darius or whatever that skin is called
And now the new Hecarim skin

There's a ward skin as well but who gives a shit

People have their own free will

These loot systems are designed from the ground up to go after people that may not have that level of self-control. The same people who work at Casinos, slot machines, etc. to ensure that people stay glued to their seats have migrated to "freemium" gaming, and you can bet your sweet ass that Riot is employing those same methods if not those same people. Why do you think doing something as meaningless as forging keys has all these bells and whistles attached to it? It has nothing to with fun, or flair, or art. It's to lean on the very same psychological effect as all the lights and sounds in a row of slot machines.

Just because Riot attached their little gambling system to an actual game doesn't make them any less complicit in the expansion of that noxious industry.

It's like how breweries aren't liable for alcoholics.

No, but they are responsible for advertisements and marketing that promotes drinking as glamorous and something that can make you a "better" person than you think you are.

Step up to the plate young man and see if you can hit a grand slam of shit opinions by telling us drug addiction is 100% on the addict too.

I mean, you can make it sound as notorious as you want, but yeah it's true they obviously want people to buy chests and keys.

In the end though, the average user gains more free content than without the system. If the whales want to subsidize the game, that's no concern of mine. Maybe they have no self control, but if it wasn't league it would probably be clash of the clans or some other stupid mobile game.

They were subsidizing it already through skins. Riot was already exceptionally profitable. This is greed at the expense of vulnerable people.

But fuck them, you got yours.

If it wasn't Fentanyl, it'd be heroin. So why bother doing anything about highly addictive drugs? I say we let them all die in a ditch and then ground them up into compost for flowers beds in my local park. That way, I get a really nice park to relax in.

I mean...the system in League is not the only way to get skins. If you want anything you don't have to keep opening boxes, you just go buy the skin. What is the "greed" of the system when it is helping me get free champions/skins?

there is no evidence whatsoever of this being the case. in fact, there's evidence to the contrary, both in riot's widely publicized f2p philosophy and their 5+ year lootbox-less track record.

don't spread your justifications as truth or fact cos they're neither of those

I mean, all F2P systems are meant to take advantage of people like that. It's why the system works.

IP prices and currency rate, bundles, skins, rune pages, the leveling process, every system in the game works like that, to single out lootboxes as if they are somehow teh devil is silly.

you're right, but this is the only system designed around gambling

mystery champions/skins have (or at least had, idk now) limits which help people that cannot control themselves

and while other exploitative systems have existed, that doesn't mean you have to double down...

So do lootboxes? The amount of boxes you can buy is limited, the amount of boxes you can get is limited. You could argue about keys being limited preys on people with no self control but even then they're pointless when you can only get so many boxes in a fixed time frame.

My ego is swollen. Mid was raging after being killed repeatedly by Zed, Jax having given him doubles trying to get a kill back. I said to hang in, their comp was terrible if we built armor. Sure enough.

Might as well enjoy Maokai while he's OP.

You can only buy 25 boxes per day or at least its what it says here . Many bundles are also limited to one purchase a day.
didn't know that, that's definitely a solid improvement

gonna think about it more with that information, there's still other big issues i have with the system

It's definitely not perfect - Gem skins are absolutely predatory garbage - but its really not that bad.

They should can the gem system, it's basically a trap because 90% of the time a key + chest would be a better proposition.

Miss Fortune is real fun, but damn i don't think i can play during work hours

tried to get a couple games in on my lunch break (we have work from home tuesdays at my office) and woof - it's like a different game

everyone is way too good, lots of 'smurfs' as people say. tried talking about work and everyone just complained about being jobless.

Meanwhile, my key stock's already at 5 2/3 and growing, with all four box drops unused since three or so months ago. While you can get keys over time, I'm kind of stuck with boxes since the only way to get them for me is to play ARAM with friends and hope they do well enough.

Guess it isn't an issue when you're good at playing multiple champions well enough, but I'd say the system is pretty unfriendly towards newbies and solo players, and I'm both at once, so...

normal games have an mmr as well so sooner or later their mmr would rush past beginners. If you've been meeting smurfs for an extended period of time then that just means you're already as good as them.

yeah, i also personally really dislike how contrived and often confusing the system can be

i would like random chance for money shit to be as transparent as possible

the gem system feels really broken also. you have zero while i have five. i probably play more than you but not five times as much (or infinity? or zero idk math is hard)

also i share soda's problem of having a billion boxes and never enough keys

just seems poorly designed
